Probably completely rotted. Did it ever even pass an NCT? Worth no more than a 3 figure sum in my book. Cool car in its day though, I remember the dad of my German holiday pal driving his (bright red) hard (red line in every gear) yet competently and safely in northern Italy in the early 80s, the short gear stick in particular stood out to me. But it hasn't aged well. It's successor has done far better.

We used to go door to door selling for a fella in the late 80s who had a 5 cylinder one in dark brown metallic. It was a whore to go with 5 in the car and a full boot. Much quicker than a newish Maza 626 1.8 at the time which his mate drove.

The m50 had only opened at the time. Good times.

One year away from cheap tax, looks OK, I like the interior. ex-UK with plenty of extras so might have been pulling a caravan for a while. Future classic all the same, highly useable as a daily as well.

    760, 2.3l petrol, auto, 11/19, €2500

That would have been the Audi 80 Quattro...they were fitted with the 5 Cylinder 2.3 ltr engine...it produced 130 BHP. Not surprised she could move...was some car though.:)

    Very nice find!

    But wasn't the 760 a normally breathing V6 (PRV) about 2.7-2.8l? Not a 2.3l turbo 4 pot?

The 760 had engines between 2.3 and 2.8 (V6). It was a more luxurious model than the 740, which was lower equipped and with engines from 2.0 to 2.3 litre.

Maybe the 2.3 was Ireland / UK only? I'm pretty sure it was never offered in NL / Germany

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,863 ✭✭✭RobAMerc

That 760 would be a whole lot more desirable if it was a 7 seater.

No NCT either for donkeys years. Asking price is ridiculous. Only good thing about that car apart from its looks is that it has half of a 928 engine :D

And no test drive. Would anyone buy a car without driving it?

Seriously? That's possibly the most ridiculously priced car we have ever seen on this thread.

I don't think I have ever bought a car without driving it. That said, I would not have any fundamental problems about the seller not letting me drive it. As long as he would drive it, with me directing him how to drive it - do brake tests, accelerations, sudden steering wheel changes, etc.

Can you find a ‘124 Cabriolet for a lot less?

I know the seller of that Porsche, he is a classic trader and with previous Porsches he was inundated with people coming along for a viewing, with no intentions of buying, just for a spin in a Porsche.

If you were a serious buyer I’m a test drive would be no issue

yes i am serious. i know its not a bargain at all, i imagine tho it is of concourse condition considering the price and is most likely priced to end up with a Mercedes club member in the Uk etc..... i have recently seen specialists with 320ce sportlines- 53k miles for £24,995 in the UK...

Yeah, I can well imagine. If I, as a serious buyer, would go along with being just a passenger while he is driving the car, and then at the end still showed interest and wanted to drive it myself, I'm sure the seller would allow it. Common sense really.

Rarity doesn't always mean high price. But it on your watch list and watch it sit.

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone.

Well, to be precise, it is a roadster rather than a cabriolet ;).
