Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous, I had one for just over 2 years, loved every minute I drove it, (I sold it to buy a 16v corrado, loved the corrado, but really missed the golf..., ) cousin bought it from me, some dopey barsteward drove through a red light in mullingar, hit him and wrote it off.... :(
Would love to have that one as a weekend car..........

Nice '89 MB190 2 litre auto, with NCT 'til June 17.

does this belong to one of our brethren here?

    that's a cracking looking 190 - but I dont like the alloys, there off a w124 aren't they ?

I think they were originally released on the W140 in 1991. Either way they were certainly available as standard on the 190 on a few run out models before the end of production in 1992/3.

Eiher way that looks to be a cracking car. NCT to 06/17. If you were looking for something for a couple of years that would fit the bill nicely, it would have very little depreciation and they are cheap and easy to repair as well.

8 holes were available for W201, W202, W124, W140 and R129 to name but a few. W140 8 holes fit only W140 as the ET is way off for the other cars.

This car has been for sale for quite a while now which makes me wonder why it hasn't sold apart from the bad timing of trying to sell a car at Christmas time!

It changed hands in mid-September according to motortax.ie - i wonder is the current seller just flipping it, or is there something more behind it?
I must admit i am tempted, but Ballina is a long haul and its also bad timing to buy!!
It does look well presented, a few more pics wouldn't go amiss though, and you wouldn't be paying too much full fat tax before it turns 30. I think the earlier 190s (this being one) had the single timing chain, so that may be due a refit.

I've always liked the Triumph Herald. Good car to own as they are easy to work on, parts, labour and advice are plentiful and cheap. Easy to upgrade them as well and they are a nice drive as they are. This one needs to be checked for rust, low price as they aren't very popular here.

First stop is to get a proper reg plate; it's just crying out for one with that number.

Could be a nice Summer car. Garage is always good for a convertible.
The front is off a Vitesse but if it's sound it wouldn't be a deal breaker.

The pictures... couldn't even be arsed copying the picture from the mobile and upload that. Couldn't even hold the phone sideways so the screengrab would be landscape.

    early-ish W124 230 ('88)
    asking just over €2k
on UK plates, €600 VRT or thereabouts
    claimed only 3 owners
    nice colour combo

That is worth a look. Very unusual interior colour combo. M102 engine is a good one

    I have to say i'm tempted..very tempted
I'm of a mind to view this weekend...
Mileage aside (as in i take 99% as not necessarily true, but that's the pessimist/realist in me) the bodywork does look remarkably rot free - no bubbling on the arches/wings visible - from an ex-UK car is that not quite remarkable?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,793 ✭✭✭Red Kev

It's very possible the Merc is rot free, all depends on the owners and how well it was looked after. 114,000 miles is very little over 29 years. I've seen an "E" reg 190E around Blackrock once or twice and you could eat your dinner off it, one owner from new, over here visiting relatives. So, yes, they exist.

Hate the red interior, had something similar in a 190 i had for a few weeks. :)

Car won't be classic tax till August 2018 at the earliest as it's an "F" reg plate.

This is a lovely little thing. A years test on something like it is not something you see often here either!

So pre 1980 need MOT in the UK but don't need NCT in Ireland?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Seweryn

    Cormie - yes.

Yeah, I couldn't live with that colour inside. In fact 'wine' colour anywhere on a car puts me off.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,427 ✭✭✭tc20

^ I kinda like it, goes well with the light blue imo.

I'm thinking of having a look at the weekend, the only thing I'm slightly concerned about is the paperwork side of things - proof of entry to the country, sales invoice etc.
I've not bought a car in IRL on UK plates before, but if it works out this could be a keeper

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,079 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

Yes, be very careful of that because they will look for a ferry ticket or something to say the car hasn't been in the country for more than 30 days. For every day after that there is a penalty.
