It had an NCT up until 2006, and was taxed til 2013! Although i doubt it was actually on the road that recently. It was a real bargain at the original price. The new photos are taken close-ish to me. Might take a drive down tomorrow and see if it’s around

I first saw it in 2003 and occasionally remember it moving on the driveway but not very regularly until 2005. Never seemed to move after. The Citroën AX did though beside it. At 450 someone could try fix it or break it.

Wonder if the ax is still there?

The colours suit it well, I love the interior. NCT exempt, ad seems honest. Sills need welding, rest of the car would need careful inspection for rust.

But it's a nice way to get into V8 motoring. A guy I shared a gaff with in Munich years ago had one, it was rough, but I've fond memories of driving to Innsbruck via Garmisch in it a few times.

Apart from the alloys I think it matches up. Side planks with a chrome strip would be correct and the upholstery looks to be the updated post-89 version.

    Or am I missing something?

This is owned by a former neighbour of mine. He also has/had an utterly mint yellow Mk1 4 door diesel.

No idea how much he wants for it, just posting here for posterity - an utterly lovely looking little car

The positioning of the battery - and the towel to prevent the positive terminal shorting against the frame ...

Then theres the rust.... It looks to a gonner tbh.

A lot of these were tarted up to be facelift cars but its difficult to see from the one pic and the car is gone anyway. I cant work out the interior material but the seats look pre facelift and of course the wheels are wrong. Difficult call. I was going to go up today and look but I had to give the daughter trailer lessons instead!

I know it's not a car, but surely asking for a tax book means there's something dodgy going on?

Probably just too lazy to get a new logbook, fairly common to see people selling logbooks at vintage shows etc for tractors

A lot of older tractors were rarely if ever taxed, tax books put away somewhere safe, and years later can't be found

Jaysus that's some amount of work gone into that Porker. Has to be worth a punt at that price with just the cosmetics to sort?

You could be right. However the Achiles heel on those would be rust, especially sills. Wouldnt be hard to see a few grand disappear there alone if they were bad enough.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Probably wants an old Irsh reg on it to give it a more 'authentic' look rather than a 'ZV' number.

If their happy to get a ZV number then the lazy way is to get the forms filled and send them off.

It's fairly common with old tractors. Their identity is usually just riveted on a small alloy plate which can easily get lost, given the rough life they lead. I have a similar problem with a 35x, I'll get around to it some day.

No MOT since 2008 as well to boot. Never saw one of them before. Raging it was sold before I could get a proper look at the picks.

Since I am looking for a pre 90's defender ( mainly in the uk) I saw this up for sale in Galway. Never saw an EZG reg before, is that original Irish or UK?

The registration is from Dublin, 2nd half of 1983.

The blurb in the ad checks out from what I can see. The 2.5 came in 1984 according to Wiki and I think that's right. The fact it has the Discovery engine and axles makes it more attractive for some, less attractive for others. Could be a bargaining point.

You need to check all the paperwork against chassis stamps with a fine toothcomb, also check out his story about being abroad. It will more than likely check out fine, but there's a fair few dodgy Land Rover/Range Rovers out there.

That's around the corner from me. I pass it 10 times a day. Don't know much about Land Rovers but I can tell you that the family are long-time residents there and genuine. The ad is a fair description by all accounts but like I said, LRs wouldn't be a strong point. Drivers side window is now covered with a plastic sheet.

Good info, thanks for that - If it wasnt for the current lockdown I would consider taking a run up to have a look at it... I know there is a landy specialist out in Inverin, bit of a trek through.

I saw it was up a couple of years back on Adverts with a few more pics looking for 20k :eek:https://www.adverts.ie/vehicles/1983-land-rover-110-original-irish/16050072

and its currently up for 11K sterling over in the uk sites https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1271716

I don't think there is much panic. It's there since before the last lockdown so not likely to shift any time soon.

    "No NCT required"

    "Used regularly"

I'd say those two lines summarise what kind of a classic car "Enthusiast" the owner is.

Could be a nice project, but I suspect youd pick up a decent 250 for less than the cost of putting that right.

I'm thinking of trying to learn to weld over the winter. It might be a decent one to try out on if he knocks several hundred off. I've very fond memories of those cars. When I first went to Germany in 1989, it was one of the cars of choice of students and the low paid - along with the 2CV and Beetle. They were know as the /8er over there. I knew personally of several diesel versions that hit 500-600,000 Km and more and Mercedes are aware of a number of them hitting 1,000,000 Km. This doesn't even count bush taxis around the world. There was one driver I met a few times in Morocco who used to drive Boujdour to Dakhla and back 6 days a week; a 700 Km return trip; 3 in the front, 4 in the back.

Nice daily driver with 15 months NCT for €1,600. Bland, but desperately reliable car that is well suited to modern driving.
