Nothing to do with the cable.

It may well be 328k miles :).

Might be worth a shot for someone handy with a bag of spanners. They'd have to run it through the NCT first though to see if there are any issues. It last had one in 2011. They still look good, and imposing. Hard to believe they are 30 years old. I was at the launch in Geneva in 1991, I wasn't keen on it then, they looked so bloated compared to the W126, but it grew on me over the years. On the bucket list.

Parts prices for these cars are mind blowingly expensive. I would love one of these cars but I wouldnt look at one that doesnt have a fresh NCT

I think that 140 used to belong to the Chinese embassy, I’m sure I read so elsewhere not too long ago.

Gorgeous car but not something I’d like to drop that much on, especially after sitting for ten years.

I imagine it could still embarrass luxury cars 20 years younger, but you'd regret not buying the V12. When buying top of the tree, you need to buy TOP of the tree.

Ordinarily I'd agree with you. Nothing worse than having a cool car when some other fella pulls up in a better version.
But when it comes to the W140, I'm not so sure. I debated with myself endlessly a couple of years when buying. Went for the V8 in the end. The V12 M120 engine is an overly complex mess resulting from squeezing two sixes together. It weighs as much as a small car, and is a nightmare to work on. I don't think those 4 extra cylinders brought much to the party, apart from a 1 second faster 0-60. The sound is unreal, and really unusual, but I still prefer the sound of the V8.

Never seen an NCT, or at least it doesn't come up on their site. Looked excellent apart from that, couldn't see any rust. Interiror had a lot of patina, but wasn't shabby in any way, leather cracked on the drivers seat but perfectly useable. Bargain for anyone who gets it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,463 ✭✭✭KevRossi

'Comes with new NCT'. If it has one it's interesting. Not the most desirable engine or colour (both are fine for me). Needs a wash/valet, but would look great after a detail. Has A/C and heated seats as well. Decent price at €6,500.

This was an afterthought when they realised that they can sell a few of these here.

wrong - its the pump for the windscreen wash. As you'd imagine on speed derestricted Autobhan in Germany it would be vital to be able to keep the screen clean => a big handle for the screen wash.

Yeah, I never got why Mercedes put them on so many RHD models.

This is the LHD version below, about as discreet and as simple as you can get. Engage with the foot, disengage by hand.

I am sure that if it was easy they would install the very same brake pedal as in the original version.
The fact is that the car was engineered as LHD first and I guess they had a reason they could not accommodate another pedal on the side of the middle tunnel, so they had to compensate the car with the windscreen washer instead :).

The W126 was the last MB to get the large dash mounted parking brake handle. I had to show the NCT tester how to release it when my 300SE went in for her NCT

Kurt Russell would look a lot less menacing in the Kadett I think

It is more like the German version of the Vauxhall Viva - a car long forgotten. According to the howmanyleft.co.uk only 285 are left in the UK - 178 licenced and 108 SORN.

I think the Opel version was considered a better car, back in the day, but very basic. Opel Kadets are given as 192 still in the UK. Given that there were few Opel Kadets sold in the UK compared with the Vauxhall Viva, that tends to bear out the better built theory.

It's really lovely but not original Irish.

The ZJ reg. is from 1973 so it must have been imported then, most likely from the UK.

There was a four door fastback as well which was a nice looking car too.

Funny how the seller describes it as entry level classic.

Slower than the 1.4 CVT version, but runs on the cheap stuff.

No room at the inn, but probably have a door somewhere for it.
