Lovely flared arches on the 500E, nice find for 12K too.

€12,000 for a 500E would be the quickest way to bankruptcy! Nice ones start at £20,000 plus

I actually wondered if it was viable to buy a mint 300E and 500 SEL then have the engine fitted?
I saw it done in this W123 with the engine from a 500 SEC; so it can be done.
On balance I think I would prefer the 56 Euro motor tax of the W123, rather than the 1809 Euro of the W124!
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-W123-280-CEW-CE-AUTO-SILVER-5-0-V8-engine-running-gear-500-SEC-/182446780400?hash=item2a7aaceff0:g:WYwAAOSw6DtYWDP~

The bulkhead, front floorpan, rear bulkhead, boot floor, rear kick board, rear arches and front wings are all different in the 500E. V8's don't fit into RHD cars without huge modifications. Why bother when you can have a real one for the same money. There's an Carlsson E500 for sale in Ireland at the moment for €18000 ish. Its a Cat C though

Taking a mint 300 (€6500) and fitting a decent V8 and all the modifications necessary in making it go and stop anything near as good as a 500, would cost another €6500 at least so you have €13k spent on a car that you've ripped the crap out of and would be worth about €4000 when you've finished!

Can we get back to classic bargains and not 20k Mercs and million pound Porsches?

Lovely car in excellent condition. Colour looks close to Almandine, one of my favourite Mercedes colours.

Seems to be a few reasonable bargains on DD at the moment.

This rover p6 2200 seems decent value from Mr. Darcy! The kind of classic you could just buy it, drive it and enjoy it... and don't worry about it! Drove a friends one for a weekend a few months ago, they really are nice cars.

A30 too seems reasonable but would need to be seen to get a true sense of it. I might...

And this Renault 5 looks like a future classic gem, no price though.

Very hard to price it I suppose. It could be the best 1988 R5 in the world and still would only be worth a modest amount. Looks really nice though. I had 2 in the 90s, an '88 and an '89, the windscreen on the 88 one used to leak onto my knees in heavy rain! Crashed it after

I wanted a turbo one before I bought the 924 but there was only one in Ireland and the Chav crowd has destroyed so many in the UK so I gave up.

Please dont start me on R5GTT's,I had mine 15 years ago,it was my first car:Dgot insured through the old Hibernian Ignition scheme anything up to 1.4 if you did the course...
Long story short it ended up being 2 cars welded together:eek::eek:

Id have another in a heartbeat, but like you said ruined with Max Power kits most of them.

My '88 one was a 956 cc TC version. I think the TC was the base model. I did have R5 turbo alloys on it (13 inch) .... like these

Loving the R5's lads...mine ended up on the front cover of a magazine called Slick back in the day(after I sold it).
I told the lad it was welded,I even showed him where its was red one side and blue the other.
He ended up pumping thousands into it ruining it with bodykits(well it was hardly concours before :pac: )

Had one myself, but it was about as reliable as a politician. Things forever going wrong. Really shabby build quality in them and they didn't wear the miles well. Still have a shed full of spares for one. IIRC I have all the bodykit, wings, boot lid engine seats and such. If they're hitting the 10k mark might be a nest egg. :D

That's a beauty! Looks very clean with it.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

That GTE looks clean and if it's a genuine GTE price is definitely not too bad. A couple of details make me wonder it is, but I would reckon she's restored at some stage and the detailing hasn't been 100%. Loose the hiddeous wheels :)
That Renault 5 definitely is very clean. Note that no matter how low mileage and how clean it is, it will never be fetching huge sale prices, because ultimately buyers want the top spec and rare models. But it's great to see these cars survive.
Personally I am more biassed towards the 1st series Renault 5 Alpine. My mate owned one back in early eighties and they were great to drive.

    renault-5-alpine-06.jpg

Note they were called "Renault 5 Gordini" in the UK because Chrysler owned the right to the name "Alpine" for their Chrysler Alpine (Simca/Chrysler 1307 in the rest of Europe => horrible yoke).

And me! NCT too! What's not to like. I had to think of reasons not to buy it. Figure it will be gone by the weekend.

Never saw it for sale before. Why does it change sellers so much?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Don't understand that either. Not my cup of tea, but the asking price is already extremely low, the car looks clean, it indeed has a valid NCT and tax, and next year the tax will be classic so only €56

At that price, I would have thought it would be snapped up within a few hours...

But.... it's a base model of a car that would have been pretty mundane in its day. It's really not that interesting, even if it's a stunning preserved example of that model. They were a good reliable car alright. Someone who's father had one would be a potential nostalgic buyer, but other than that.....

    Hi
Does anyone know this car, seems to be good value, is the 628 the poorer relation of the 635? What are the potential pitfalls for these?

IF it's rust free and mechanically sound then it's a bargain. the 628 is a fine bus, most people want the 635 and a a result the 628 prices are a bit lower.

Seller says it's waxoyled and rust free which helps, but bring along somebody who knows that model inside out when you go to look at it. I don't just mean a mechanic, I mean somebody very familiar with the E24.

Of course, but that applies to half the classic cars in this country. Like I said, not my cup of tea :)

Car is now sold BTW, someone got a bargain!

Lovely car! Would like to be able to remove the chrome wheel arches though. €8k does seem decent value unless all is not as it seems.

NCT cert with advisories would be worth a look.

Looks in great shape. No mention of NCT? For 25 big ones they'd want to be giving you one! Was only thinking the other day I'd love to own one of these again.

Though I couldn't live with that green interior personally.

It ran out in October. Crazy price for not having an NCT.

There's a much better choice in the UK, and for that money I'd be prepared to head there. Here's one with an MOT till June, nicer colour too, interestingly it's an import. Question is from where?
