Imported from South Africa in June 2016 (€200 to register - Plate not included).

    Hmmm

That reg plate has been around for a while. Sticks out a fair bit. Not ver yclever to advertise the car with it on.

Probably been driving around on it since last summer

Very very surpried its still for sale.

Crazy cheap, when you consider this later one. A snip at fourteen grand

That DX is a minter though. I'd say the rear light panel on the blue one looks like it is held together with metal tape and isopon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,033 ✭✭✭Silvera

Hmmm indeed! He's obviously going to "transfer" the plate to another Escort.
Lets just call it the "Escort trade plate" !

That's a great price, considering how rare they are now. They were every bit as bad as Fiats back then for rusting.

Ford men don't care, it's more than normal in that scene.

52 days old and almost 5,000 views with an ONO price too, wonder why it hasn't sold?

Perhaps it's sold and the seller simply hasnt removed the ad?

...or then again maybe it's 'crustier' in the flesh than it appears in the photos!
We had a few KE30's over the years and know all the rust spots...i.e. everywhere... on the bodywork :D

Having said that they were a great car- the mechanicals just went on-and-on-and-on. My brother even had an estate version for many years ...only one or two of those still in existence in Ireland! :)

It's rusted to bits and would cost an absolute fortune t oput right. You'd get a good one in the UK for that money. Pic of back light is a giveaway.

It's been resprayed over a very bad repair job. Nice to see it, but I wouldn't go near it. We had two of them, great cars, great mechanicals, but the floor rusted through when it was 8 years old.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,836 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Ah, I was thinking maybe that's what emeldc meant :o

It doesn't look so bad from the photos. I wonder how long you'd get from it as a runaround before it's undriveable for the 2.5K

That is the saddest video I think I've ever seen. From self important posers who actually look down on others because they have a slightly higher spec car to the poor sap who was humiliated by being given an entry level diesel Maestro.

I worked in the UK in the early 1990's and can totally relate to these guys. Hours and hours of solo driving and internal hierarchy struggles result in this sort of behaviour.

I dont get why everyone seemed to forget how awful they were and forgive them and yet FIAT never was able to shake that rust bucket tag.

And you cannot tell me the Ritmo wasn't a far better car than this or even the 128 ( maybe more the same period )

Because Toyota went on to sort out their build quality issues, become one of the largest car manufacturers in the world by volume and their brand ultimately become synonymous with solid quality and good design whereas Fiat.........

Anyone know this car. Seems a little cheap.

I guess if your measure of a car is reliability then yes Toyota makes sense.
I presumed as a car lovers forum people would appreciate what Fiats brought to the table versus a Toyota Corolla -

At 170,000 miles I would say it was still a tad overpriced.

+1. This is a much nicer example, https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/fiat-coupe-turbo-plus/14922513, though still a little high in the Irish market. In the future, these will only go up.

And one of the rivals of the time, Integra R. https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/-quothonda-integra-type-r-00-quot/14956110

Irish/UKDM example, so far less common than the import JDM(which themselves have become rarer sights). Looks standard save for the horrible intake, but 100 quid would sort that. If the rear arches are rust free that's a good price IMH and under the average. Way under the price in the UK for similar. These are going nuts in the US(20,30,40 grand for clean examples) and climbing near monthly in the Japanese homeland. Again IMHO in a few years those two cars will be the value equivalent of Ford Escort RS's and the like.

Jeez, I would think that teg is worth way more than 4.5k.

Its value can really only go one way, and you can have some serious fun with it in the meantime!

It would be D, if insurance costs weren't so completely crazy on them(I'm paying more for mine than I would for a newer 911). That's what has utterly killed the Irish market for such cars. Examples of that model of car sit on Donedeal sit unsold for months and months and months. Near impossible to shift. Some get parted out, or British buyers see the bargains and snap them up. I'd not be shocked if someone from there nabbed that red one. Here's a white UKDM one going for over 9000 Sterling and it's a pretty ropey example. A half decent one like the Irish one would get at least double the Euros in the UK. Crazy.

It might be interesting to see what quotes someone might get on that particular one though, as it's not a "Japanese Import". Oddly, back in the mid noughties when I got mine, the local non import ones had the higher loading. Then again insurance companies and logic are rarely bedfellows.
