I've stood my fair share in hedges, I know all about Escorts and rallying.(best spectical on the stage imo ) But is that the reason they are all making so much money ? Surely someone would start knocking out full shells for them if that were the case.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭kyote00

Thats is exactly the case... GRP4, Burton Power, Demon Tweaks all provide a full range of parts, panels etc
So I think it probably access to parts, fairly easy mantainance, lots of knowledge and history in UK and Ireland.

I guess compared to a modern Fiesta/Focus ST --- the escort is cheap ?

There's a few Bulgarian lads outside london who are doing exactly that - they're shipping Srinters over to bulgaria, and bringing back some nice 2 door Escort shells.

The prices of Escorts may be taking a did soon enough thanks to the Chinese. First shell below from a run of 100% correct reproduction shells that will be the bones of £7500 stg delivered to the UK. First ones expeced before the end of the year!!

All you need then is for them to start knocking out the matching brown tax books complete with teacup rings and smudged ink.:)

No need for the Chinese to do that - its quite the cottage industry here already.

That's great. I'll be in the market for something like that in a few months.

Looks very nice. Seller has made a classic mistake in showing his hand though, he's clearly quite keen to be rid of it so asking price can probably be beaten down.

I disagree , it proves it's actually for sale unlike 80 % of other vintage stuff on done deal with ridiculous prices , It'll sell quickly though, which is the point of the advert I presume.

You could do a Brian meme for that

"Bought a genuine old irish 6 digit reg number"

    "Has ZV in it "

Can't agree with you there, I think values of good classics here are very low in comparison to other European country's.
That's why all the good cars are being exported which leaves only the crap left behind.

Because people do not appreciate good cars and will only pay an average price for any car. Strange market in this country.

Ireland has never had a very strong classic car scene, or certainly not as strong as other countries. Reasons for this were mostly economic, where having a classic car was a luxury that most people couldn't afford. Affording your first car here was hard enough 20 years ago, so most people never started a strong brand identity in their late teens to twenties like in other countries. The first car you owned was inevitably a dog and you moved on to something else ASAP.

We also never had a strong indigenous motor industry, we assembled cars but never had out own brand. Incidentally one of the strongest classic car scenes seems to be Ford in the Cork area, an area where people of a certain generation will have a stronger affiliation to the brand than here.

Classic cars became popular 10-15 years ago when we had plenty of disposable income but as the recession kicked in the luxury of a classic wore off and many sales were through necessity rather than choice.

Due to having RHD the market for cars is really only limited to the UK for the majority of cars, though there are exceptions. Bring in an exchange rate that at the moment makes it very very attractive for UK buyers and you have a perfect storm as to why a lot of Irish classics are being exported.

It's therefore a bit more complicated than just saying that we don't appreciate classics or that we don't want to spend good money on one. Sure, there's plenty of people looking for a pre 1980 bucket that they don't have to NCT but there's plenty of us who are willing to invest money in them as well.

If things start to pick up properly in the future economically then there'll be more people driving classics. I also think that people born in the 80's and 90's will be looking for the boy racer cars of the 2000's in a few years and that a proper classic car scene will develop around them. They were the first real generation of Irish people to have serious disposable income when they were in their teens or early 20's, so I'd expect to see a scene around classic E36's, modified VW's and Ricers (amongst others) developing here in a few years.

What a stunning little 1100, even love the pictures, the backdrop is like something straight outta the 70s.

Thanks. The lack of close ups and interior had me suspicious.

Audi is taxed until next year. NCT doesn't know it though. Possibly never ever NCTd?

Most of us in here know that any car registered on or after 01/01/1980 needs an NCT and needs to be tested every year. The original old reg might fool a Garda (the person) but it will not fool his tool (PULSE). Personally I'd rather not risk a €1,500 fine, 5 penalty points and the car taken away and crushed...

Yes - it isn't on the NCT database which is cause for great concern. I see no NCT disc in the window or even a space on the disc holder. You will either come up against a Guard with PULSE or a Guard who knows his classics..

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,042 ✭✭✭kaizersoze

Yeah. I checked the NCT database as well before posting and no record of it at all. Tis a bit odd. Pity. I like the old audi Coupes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,195 ✭✭✭Thinkingaboutit

The reg cannot be read on the photo anymore. Nice colour.

    Eh?

The NSI4 reg is clearly visible, front and back. The reg is genuine as it is recognised by numerous other websites (including cartell and the official government motor tax site) and the car is currently taxed

    SOLD...apparently.

    It looked a bit edited.
