It's just as easy to clone the details off a car you see in real life. I've no doubt that this happens but covering a few number plates in an add isn't going to stop it.

Very true but it's a lot easier to sit at the PC for 10 minutes and find exactly what you want to clone than driving around looking.
Most dealers cover their plate with their own dealer plates for ads.

Cool and all as it would be, I doubt too many '84 500 SECs are being used as getaway vehicles.

To cover up the UK plate behind them?

In fairness, they were absolutely **made** for that. :) Put a Vinnie Jones look-a-like behind the wheel and away you go....

Mercedes like this one is a no answer. If you want a more suitable one for the conversion, the W124 and W140 models made from 1993 where the next generation engines were introduced are fine.

Why are the pre 93 w124 engines not suitable if you don't mind me asking. I have a pristine one I was thinking of converting is all.

    What model is it?

The earlier models, i.e. 200E, 230E, 260E, 300E (M102, M103 engines), etc. use K-Jetronic (mechanical) fuel injection system, the later models, i.e. E200, E220, E280, E320 (M111 and M104 engines), etc. are equipped with electronically controlled injection systems - much more suitable for the LPG conversion.

Yes, you can convert the earlier models but that is asking for trouble, especially as there are no (local) LPG specialists in this country.

I had an old W123 200E with an M102 on gas without any issues. Great engines, easy to fix and as reliable as a reliable thing but a little thirsty

Didn't Jason Statham drive one in Blitz,

Not the first thing I think of when I think of a classic American car from the 70s, but this could be a lovely cruiser for the summer months for less than three grand

M103 engine. Shouldn't have any issues gassing that engine. Great engine and continued in the W124 up until the end of production in 1993 with some cars being registered in 1994

The M103 engine even went into the Baby Merc :)

Yep the 2.0 with it's hybrid electro-mechanical KE fuel injection.

You must be talking about another engine. The M103 is a straight 6 petrol engine (2.6l or 3.0l)

The one in my 190E is the 2.6l, the one in the above S-class is the 3.0l

Sorry yeah, always read the full conversation! 2.0 was the 102 with KE jetronic.

Anyone fancy an Audi 200 turbo?

    Defo a straight six.

Not in my book. But I'd say it doesn't make an awful lot of financial sense either unless you do big miles (outside the scope of most classic car polices) and you will keep the car for a long time (and you won't have to go out of your way to fill up with LPG)

Don't do big miles, but lpg available nearby, and I plan on hanging onto this one. At 120 plus a tank, I reckon I'll lpg it probably.

I put up my W201 190E for sale again this evening. It was sold very close to my asking price in October, but the buyer pulled out. December is not the best time of year to sell a classic car, but I no longer drive it much, so it should go to a new home sooner rather than later!
