Castleisland was meant to be good too yesterday, plenty fighting for cows

This hero had 160 fr bulls over 24 months of age and no QA last spring.
He has a big tillage operation.
He was flat out protesting in July then.

Anyone see HEx or AAx weanling heifers in the mart lately?

I’m seeing two different prices in the papers, one is claiming €1.80 but the other is back around €1.50.

I’ve 9 here all between 220-250kg, and was planning to out-winter them on rape but the weather has me questioning that plan. So I’m half thinking of moving them on as I’m not set up properly yet to house them.

That sounds about right.
Only thing is cattle that small are easy to smother away out over winter. Unless the kale becomes a complete quagmire.

I had a look on the livestock live website (https://www.livestock-live.com) and these seem to be make any thing from €2.17 per KG to €1.57.

Is it from the marts they get the figures? Or from sales thru the website?

Its from the marts, it started off with Carnaross mart, and now recently they have added Gortatlea mart and Manorhamilton Mart. It takes a wee bit of playing around to get used too but is is hand for see what cattle are making at anytime. Its also handy when you are in the mart you can pick out cattle in a pen and can see age, movements and days in the herd. You are meant to be able to bid on cattle in the sales ring or if they are missed after the sale but I don't know if anyone would do that as the pictures can be poor at times.

Now tbf I did go to Carrigallen last week & spoke to men who'd bought off us before and let them know we'd have calves out today. Dunno if that helped though, none of the men I spoke to bought any!:pac:

Quiet cows = quiet calves usually.
One of those twins had a naval infection so to be able to dip it in the field with warm water & bluestone/salt was great.

Also I do dose one with croissants :D
The rest think she's bonkers but take ivy/nuts/apples etc.

It's as much about the farmer as timing. No more than Charolais0153 stock our side, Lady Hs stock seem to be very sought after up her way.

In fairness my question might show inexperience but I've seen enough of marts to realize the money keeps pouring in to the ring.

Always hear that saying that the money will run out before the cattle but I’ve never seen it happen.

They would be March/April 2018 born,would be around 530 Kg and coming off good ground,no meal ate but would fatten in 3/4 months.

Anything from €1050 to €1250 depending on quality. They’ve gotten dearer in the last fortnight.

SM, 582kg, 1110 euro
HE, 210kg, 380 euro
AA, 213kg, 370 euro

Average was around 1.60-2.00/kg, depending on breed and flesh cover

I left before the bullocks started.

Dairy culls were plentiful and went for 0.70-0.80/kg. Suckler cows were around 1.00-1.50, depending on breed. A few JE culls went for around 0.40/kg.

Saw one JE weigh 420kg and make 145 euro
