Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I might have to move from confirmed to interested for now - one of the meet and train races I've been thinking of is on that weekend.

lads...trying to figure out the entrance point between Cruagh and the path to Masseys from this Map...look at the 6km marker....you come out of Cruagh here but then I am unsure where the entrance to the trail is on the other side of the road to get down to Masseys

    Dublin%20Mountain%20Plod%20v1.jpg

think I have located on google maps, I've ran by this before though and assumed it was private land, can anyone confirm if this is the correct trail?

Is that the 'mountain plod' route? At the 6k point you come out of massey's wood, cross over the road and the entrance to cruagh is opposite. You'll climb over a couple of stiles.

Right trail wrong gate......that gate is further down the road...
After coming out of Cruagh wood and the big green steps youll see a small gate...You literally cross the road at the bad bend and 10 metres down you will see a white pedestrian size gate with a gap to lead you onto the masseys trail.

(google maps is an older picture the gates have been changed....)
Youll know you are on the right track when you find 5 hurdles over the fences with the river on your lhs

Here is the Coillte Map of the Hellfire, Massey's & Cruagh area which might be easier to follow than the Plod map above. The new trails on ascending Cruagh to the boardwalks are shown just to the south of the Dublin Mountain Way (the yellow dots).

More info on the Coillte Outdoors site and maps for loads of other areas too.

thank you. I was in the area again last Sunday and found the bottom entrance to Masseys, I could see the trail by the stream which leads up to Cruagh so I'll be hitting that up another time.

Incidentally, I got a a bit of a fright in Massey's estate. Was running along minding my own business when I was jolted by a mans face. On closer inspection as I got nearer it was a large picture surrounded by flowers, obviously a shrine memorial for someone who I suspect died at the spot recently. :(

Would love to do this but doesn't really fit training schedule unless I make it part of a 22 miler. Plus I've lost my trail shoes already! Next one hopefully. Enjoy.

There seems to be a bit of interest in another trail run so I'm resurrecting this thread to see who's on for an easy-paced run along this route. Going to suggest Sunday 26th July (morning, probably before 10am) off the top of my head. Post up alternative date(s) if you like, we'll go with the majority and then move to a new thread.

Cool, I might just start a new one to avoid any confusion over dates but will summarise anything relevant in the first post.

Just giving this a bump for Sunday week. Who's in ?

Going to suggest a 10 a.m. start, meeting at the Hellfire Car Park. If the car park is locked (this has happened me more than once) just park (safely!) where you can and jog back.

Disclaimer: This is a social run. Everyone undertakes it at their own risk. Pace will be slow/conversational. Distance approx 12K as per PeterX's route assuming we can follow the map. Sense of humour required. Bring treats.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,009 ✭✭✭Firedance

Yes still on for this, considering making yummy (but very unhealthy!) caramel slices this time :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭spaceylou

Would love to join you guys for this (and put some faces to screen-names) but am away next weekend :(

Have fun, don't get too lost, enjoy the treats and hopefully I will make the next one! :)

yep ok with me if we're allowed in/good enough pace wise (although would be happy to trail behind and catch up at the end)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,272 ✭✭✭Dubgal72

    Yay, Absolutely!

Depending how this week goes, I was thinking of jogging from bray to Greystones, meeting the group there and doing the run back...all at a very easy pace. There will be a wide range of pace there so don't worry anyone who hasn't got a speedy run planned for Sunday :)

Here's a cut and paste from FB:
"Robert Mead, Dan Sauceda and Charles Gaytan have a simple mission: to bring positive awareness to public service professions.
Over the past year, the three young men have figured out a unique way to show their appreciation, getting others to join them on a regular basis.
The men have been running around the Sparks Marina, one to two laps a day, for the better part of a year. They aren't looking for donations or personal fame. They just want to honour firefighters', police, medics and military by spreading the word about their support and by making the effort every day to run with American flags.
On Sunday 26th July, Mead, along with a handful of Americans, will travel to Ireland to meet with Mary Murray to present her with the flag he has been running with to honour Brian Murray and Mark O'Shaughnessy* who both tragically died while fighting a fire in 2007. Afterwards, Irish soldiers, firefighters, medics and police will join the American visitors, mixing Irish and American flags, on a run/jog/walk for six miles between the two coastal towns of Bray and Greystones. The run will be along the Greystones/Bray Cliff and will start at 10.30am from the Greystones end.
Bray Runners have been invited to take part in this very special event and we would ask as many members and friends, as possible, to take part."

*these are the Bray firefighters, tragic tragic incident. Still felt in the community today.

there will be firefighters and soldiers there... I'm wearing my 'good' shorts :D:D:D:D

also, sounds like a lovely idea to remember Brian and Mark
