"Smart causal" work clothes

    I've gotten a paid student placement for the summer in a pharmaceutical company... My issue is that they said the dress code is "smart casual"... What does that mean???

    I'm 21 years of age and I'll be working in a lab, so I probably will be wearing a lab coat over anything I'll be wearing anyways. Anywhere I have worked has had either a uniform, or my current job is just "black" clothes so I wear jeans and tshirts as long as they are black.

    I'm not really sure what to wear, I don't start until June so I have a while to pick up a few bits and bobs anyways as needs be :)
