The front page, touch site and talk-to forums are in-house developed. The rest of the site still runs on (a heavily-customised version of) vbulletin. They will eventually do away with vbulletin entirely, but it's still some time off.

    All AFAIK

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

    ^^
Pretty sure this is correct. The codebase officially split from vBulletin quite a while back and a lot of extraneous crap was removed. I guess for all intents and purposes the codebase is best described as custom developed with some ghosts of vBulletin still hanging around.

From what I recall the ultimate plan was to build the entire site with an API backend which would then allow for much faster development of independent front ends and data feeds. Not sure how far along that path they are now.

Yep, as said above the touch site and apps both make use of an API developed in house. The desktop site is a combination of a custom frontend for some parts and custom page elements for others (see the header menu etc) around a heavily modified vBulletin.

The desktop site is undergoing a massive transformation in the near future that remove it's reliance on vBulletin entirely and is being built from scratch.

You can get a better idea of what the new site will look like in this thread

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
