been looking aroun in eBay for a wifi dongle for my old co desktop.
Have seen ones ranging from €5 to €90. The pc will be no more than 10 feet from the router in the hall, would here be a big difference in quality.
Am I better going for a name brand, netlink or Cisco or huawei?
    Thanks

Probably price more dependent on capabilities of each. Having said that I wouldn't go super cheap. Can you not run an Ethernet cable from hall to the pc?

You can pick up Netgear/TP-Link/BT brand USB adapters in Currys for around €10-€20.

I have an cable but it's stopping sitting room door from closing. Was contemplating drilling through and running cable into wall but figure the usb dongle would be handier. That way if I decided to move desktop at least it'd still be good to go.

Oh that's good to hear. I'd been in currys near me and they were trying to sell me one for €79.99. Thought it a bit steep. It's only used for when herself is on the laptop and I've work to be doing! Might pop back to them and have a chat with them

Main differences are in radio type: A, B, G, N, AC

A, B, G are all old. Get one that supports N or AC to keep up with modern DSL/Cable providers services/routers.
They're all interoperable (more or less).

Being commodity items the brand doesn't matter nearly as much as it used to.
TP Link make decent cheap hardware.

Got this TP-Link the other day for a friend. Cost about €19 delivered with parcel motel. Find it good. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00416Q5KI/ref=pe_385721_51767431_TE_dp_1
