Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Speaking of, I'm liking the dickhead main character. Only thing I didn't like about RDR 1 was how John got roped into the most boring of tasks and basically being everyone's errand boy. I know that's the R* formula but at least this new fella looks/sounds like he gives less ****s.

I do hope R* have developed their missions a bit from RDR 1.

A mission would have been nice, or a walk around the game world.

A mission would have been nice, or a walk around the game world.

I think we will see something like that in the next trailer. Still early days yet. Their Spring releases are normally around April which means it's likely another 6 months away. With GTAV they had two trailers, then the character trailers, then they had a gameplay video.

Rockstar marketing is always the same. Heavily edited cinematic trailer followed by gameplay a month before launch.

Also this game has a physics model on horse testicles. Just saying.

Saw a shot with drool from a horse too. No wonder the delays!

If that's the case, push it back to Autumn 2018 and give us the finished article

Thought that trailer looked terrible alright. I was wondering if it was because I was watching it on Youtube on the big screen and not the laptop

I presume it's because it's all in engine. The cutscenes in the first one looked kind of crappy at times.

You really have to appreciate the fact that Rockstar do all of their trailers in-engine, what you see is what you get, there's no bullshit with them to be honest.

I think a prequel was the right call, no matter what way the story plays out or if we get to see John Marston at all. The first game ended in 1914 during the decline of the American Frontier. The world was on the brink of modernity. If the new game was set even 5 years into the future then we'd be approaching the 1920s, which wouldn't feel right for a western.

I'm pretty interested to see what they are doing for online, GTA online is a massive earner for them but I don't know how they could implement a similar mode in red dead given the limitations of the era.

Customise horse and wagon, build/customise ranch, clothes. Wouldn't surprise me if they introduced gambling with their fun bucks in poker and liar's dice.

The game will be riddled with it after the millions they made with GTA Online.

That would be cool gambling with in game currencies. Can't say I agree with micro transactions but it would be great having the unlock system of GTA. Selling sage to merchants and the likes! Stop at the card table on the way back!

Sure people have been crying out for Casino DLC since GTA Online started, so wouldn’t surprise me if R* including some sort of gambling in this. But either way, they’re gone make money from it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,504 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

I think R* stray away from gambling support online because coupled with the fact that you can buy in-game currency, they might land themselves in a bit of hot water (not that its ever stopped them before :D) when you can essentially play online poker for money in their games. Look at the whole CS skin debacle, it probably isn't worth that kind of bad publicity when you're a billion dollar company.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,553 ✭✭✭✭Varik

You can bet on players in the competitive games in GTA online already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭iLikeWaffles

Would only lead to problems if you are gambling for real money or the in game currency could be converted to real money. I think if there was no other way other than buying coinage for real money for in game stuff then that might be a problem but in game currency can be earned with missions in GTA it would be the same for online rdr2 I would assume. It works! If you're buying the coin you have little impatience.

The multiplayer for RDR was the first online multiplayer that I got truly addicted to. It was terrific, with real depth and a great learning curve. If you were skilfull, it showed.

I have high hopes for the MP in this. I sincerely hope they stick to the formula from RDR and pretty much ignore GTA.

There was online gambling in original RDR multiplayer already

There was but it was Shyt. If a little bit of effort went into it it could be a great feature.

I disagree. I think it was executed quite well. Even now that feature is probably equally as good if not better than all other dedicated gambling games.

Yeah, but there wasn't 'Shark Cards' then was there? R* can make money from people gambling this time.

I hope they stick more to the old format and avoid all that GTA ****e and the price gouging. I concede it's really unlikely though, it's just part of their business model now i'd imagine.

Same. I loved the online in RDR, but the prices in GTAV just made it same an absolute chore to play.

Sure wasn't it 8 million for a yacht, That's like 60-70€ in real life money, absolutely ridiculous!

Aw I would absolutely LOVE a battle royal mode set in the wild West. Craft survival gear and weapons, taking on wild animals and each other until 1 is left. I didn't play the GTA version yet but RDR would be a great seeing for it imo.

As for the casino, I'd say it will have a big presence online. People wanting it for so long on gta online, they already had the casino building ready to open. I'd say the plan was to have it solely on RDR to give it an edge over GTA as there'll be no wacky races, fancy cars hundreds of clothes and costumes, etc. There's only so many cowboy hats, waistcoats and dusters they can have.

I imagine you'll have a ranch that you can upgrade or a saloon 'safe house' that everyone will have a room upstairs that you can access.

I'm really interested to see what they have planned with it. The online on RDR had its problems but it was a great laugh playing with fwends, it's nice not having bomber jets and tanks ganking you at will.

Don't think we'll be limited to just the more realistic or at least rockstar realistic western stuff for online to milk the $, they'll likely do more undead nightmare and more besides.

I want them to take the time to ensure this is as good as it can be. RDR is one of my favourite games ever, so this has a lot to live up to.

Rockstar and delays usually go hand in hand.

Wouldnt rule out another one donw the line. :o

Also, I'd prefer a near perfect game thats delayed, than a bug ridden mess thats rushed out.

Given how revered RDR was, people will get over the dealy as long as its good.

As said fully expected a delay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,405 ✭✭✭Lukker-

I would expect that to be the last delay. It's the perfect pre xmas time, you don't wanna be shipping any later than November.

Someone knows their Old West history at R* at least.

26 Oct 1881 was the gunfight at the OK Corral

I cannot wait for this game. It actually suits me better having a Autumn/Winter release as I wouldn't play as often during the summer.

Still no word on a pc release (which we almost certainly won't get now, at least for a long time) :(

I'm guessing 6 months. Similar to the PS4/XBOX One release schedule. The game new consoles are very similar to PC coding wise, so porting won't be an issue.

Rockstar made an insane amount of money from micro transactions, and PC was a big part of that, no chance they ignore that market. They haven't announced it yet, because they want people to double dip. If people know it's coming out in a few months they are less likely to buy it on console and they might just wait. Like I did with GTA V. Purchases first on X360 and then on PC.
