Anyone get mugged by guys down an alley in Saint Denis at night? Guy told me he has an opportunity for some quick cash and told me to follow him down the alley. I knew it was a set-up but I fancied going down there to kill him and any others and loot them but a quick cutscene plays where you get clocked in the head by a gun from behind and wake up in the graveyard with 20% of your cash gone.

    Avoid.

I had that happen me, I commented on it here but spoilered it so you may not have seen it. I googled and Reddit said they'd be back at the same time, but I waited and waited for yer man to come back and he never did. 700 bucks I lost :( I'm still sick over it, even though I've the game finished and all. It's somewhat disconcerting how a game like this can affect your mood the way it does! :pac:

I'm lassoing him and taking him out to the bayou to introduce him to the wildlife next I see him.

You could hogtie him, then setup a campfire and drop him on it.

Two or three hours? I could spent way more than that, and in the end achieve nothing of note at all!

Its when you run into an ambush or whatever and get killed and want to reload a saved game that you see the last save was 4 hours ago and you hadn't even noticed.

I need some sleep at this stage.

As a side note I think the percentage of people who actually completed RDR1 is like 15-20%

I expect this one to be lower again

I completed it, twice as it was so good.

I actually found RDR1 better than this as I like the expereince of being in the wild west, but this one is a bit too much like wild west sim.

It is still an excellent game mind you,

Almost time to restart it and do everything rather than rush through the story ignoring side events and strangers

Red Dead 1 for me was much more enjoyable to play. I'm 38% into this and I struggle to remember many of the missions. A lot of it gets lost in the long journeys between the action and the iffy controls(which have a huge but I imagine intentional input delay to add weight) It's a remarkable achievement but I'm not sure it deserved the unanimously praised reviews; it reminds me so much of GTA IV in that sense.

I could too but about 3 hours is the most I've been able to dedicate at any one time. Being an adult gets in the way. Very upsetting.

South Park knows exactly how you feel

edit .. doh, somebody's already mentioned it

Personally I love the slow pace of it. Getting up in the morning and heading out on my horse to kill, rob and maim.

Then coming back to camp in the evening to abuse Dutch and that ol sonabitch Uncle.

Would love to gut those two sonbitches.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,500 ✭✭✭✭DEFTLEFTHAND

Btw guys what happens if you contribute nothing to the camp?

I had that smug bastard Dutch on my case last night looking for money. Told him to go fck himself.

My brother says he regrets buying it. New dad so has very little time to play and you've to dedicate a lot of time to each session which he doesn't have.

Find what I played of the game inconsistent. The characters so far aren't very likeable but when the game is good its very good. However the attention to detail kills it somewhat. A lot of the simulation elements while technically impressive can end up hindering the game and making it less fun.

I think rockstar should have thought about whether a system made the game more fun rather than adding it because they should have.

It's not going to top God of War as the best triple A game and it's not even close to my game of the year. It's an interesting game nonetheless and doubt anyone will put this much detail into a game again for a long time. It reminds me most of the first shenmue. Lots of systems in that to make it realistic but no regard for what they add to the game or even detract from it.

I didn't contribute to the camp in ages. I contributed a lot to the camp while other members contributed little to none and it had to stop.

Best thing I did was to upgrade my lodgings so I can sleep under canvas at night when away from the camp or towns.

It killed GOW stone dead as GOTY for me, it's on another level completely. It's the game of the year and one of the, if not the best, games of the last decade IMO.

Agreed, my GOTY as well. I'm having an absolutely amazing experience with it. Way better than RDR 1. Near the end of chapter 5 and steaming ahead with the story. Lots of little things that need changing but it just goes to show how amazing everything else is.

I think you can ignore a shedload of it and not really notice. I never got into the combat and don't understand how cores and deadeye work. These are core concepts of the gameplay and yet haven't affected me in the slightest. Haven't really robbed people, trains or banks outside of missions. I'm just faffing about doing f-all much like real life.
I could suddenly decide I'm done with this but for the moment I'm loving it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,787 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Loving it. Very slow obviously but its so big. Would recommend ditching the missions for a while and riding a train to parts unknown. Open up the map. Some very big towns and places to be discovered and some mad side missions and encounters.

Last night turned into 3am very quickly and I was just arsing about really. Its a game Ill be playing for a few years I think.

Next play through will be holding onto
as much loot like rings, gold nuggets and some gold bars
    as possible, also won't
be going after the Arabian till Epilogue
. Is there anything you can
invest in that will carry over for Epilogue which could be sold?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,094 ✭✭✭bennyx_o

    Just got to
the Epilogue now. Being honest, I've lost a slight bit of interest in it, but will continue to play

By the sounds of it would be ideal to be on the dole with this game

    Wouldn't be worrying about
money in the epilogue, you get a ton of it eventually

    Do.
    The Epilogue
is surprisingly long and it’s most definitely worth seeing it through.

Just finished part one there, still enjoying the game

Why are we spoilering vague statements that literally contain no detailed information about the game.?

Because you could read between the lines and its end game which a lot of people have not gotten to yet!

The lighting in parts is really starting to annoy me, reminds me of Mafia 3 at launch were you needed a welders mask nearly and I'm not playing with HDR on. It's very over the top in place. It's like they have it up on 11 and could do with dialling it back to around 8 or 9.

I found that turning HDR off really helped with the lighting for me
