I've been warming to Arthur alot over the last few days. Love his style, atitude, and most of all, his accent.

Marston actually grates on me a bit. His voice seems the most forced/unnatural of them all.

I think the most damning thing...it’s just not fun.

Is it possible to say that with a straight face? My 36 hour playtime would suggest it's anything BUT boring, but maybe that's the joys of different strokes for different folks.

Are people here playing in third or first person? I am mostly in first person but toggle to third for a bit every so often. Arthur walks faster in first person, if that helps. Also mess with the settings a bit, aiming is better without the dead spot and with turning up the aim acceleration.

The hunting is a bit slow but I haven't engaged with it much. As just a world to explore and a story to experience, I'm finding it all incredible.

That's exactly it, when the pace of the game clicks it clicks like unanything else out there. Don't try to rush it like it like GTA cos it's a different beast

I killed a big raven and got one feather so was able to craft one improved arrow.

Do I really need to kill and pluck a few dozens birds to get a decent amount of improved arrows?

Only Still on chapter 2, about to rob the
    train
. Yeah the game has some issues but I'm absolutely loving it. The characters, the story, the unreal graphics, the random encounters and the combat.

The honour system is shyte. Looted a guy who got killed by his horse and got minus honour. Same when I had to rob a mission item. Pointless having that system for a thief like Arthur. Also, the game could do with a fast travel back to camp.

Lastly, the crap bounty system. I'm just hoping there are towns you can visit that are a bit more lawless than valentine where you can settle differences in the street without some snitch running to the sheriff. There's 2 much 'i better watch where I go and not bump off anyone' at the moment which takes away from the coolness of Arthur.

Mixture of both. First when looting houses or buying/close quarters, 3rd on horses/fighting

Some dope pulled a gun on me when I bumped into his carriage. I defused the situation and he said 'yeah you better walk away' so I naturally chased him down and killed him. Unloading shots into his corpse, I just found out you can shoot off the head and limbs. Here's what's left of the chap. Completely worth the minus honour.

I'm loving the game, but man there are some really bad design choices throughout. Just failed a mission 4 times where I had to chase down a wagon and take it over without killing anyone.

Trouble is as it starts racing away, your horse isn't there, so you have to steal another one (the one there in front of you which has poor enough stamina). My first try, I tried cutting a corner, hit a low log behind some grass and crashed off the horse. Managed to get back up on it and tried chasing the wagon, but could not catch up as a) every time I tried cutting a corner there'd be a fence to jump thereby negating the corner cutting, and b) twice I had to give the horse a stamina tonic as it was about to either stop or buck me, but each time you have to slow down to give it to him, again ruining your chances of catching up.

The next three times I'd jump to the wagon, move forward to the driver, however I'd never done that before and didn't know what button I was supposed to press. Each time Arthur just jumped or fell off. The first time I had to wait for about a minute for the mission to fail because my temp horse was nowhere near me and I had no chance of catching the wagon based on my previous attempt. The next two times after falling off I just shot the driver in order to fail and restart from the checkpoint. In the end I just skipped to the next checkpoint in the mission because I couldn't be f*cked trying that again.

It just sucks because it's a really terrific game and I'm enjoying it for the most part, but there's these constant little things that really f*ck me off.

Also I don't know what I'm supposed to spend my money on now. I have all the camp upgrades got and don't want to buy a different horse. I'm scared of ending up getting robbed during a mission or something and losing my money, but I don't want to just contribute it to the camp if there's no more upgrades to buy.

There is a ton of clothes you can buy at the general store and the Tailors in Saint Denis, and you have to buy each colour individually. Then there's horse clothes you can buy at stables. There's a ton of stuff to blow your money on.

Well I think what's next on my list be upgrading all my guns, or at least the ones I use most. At least pending anything else that comes up. The clothes don't really take my interest as I already bought a few of the pieces I liked. The rest I'd just be buying for the sake of it.

Wish the gang was more like the one in Blood Meridian and had a character like the Judge, they should have just made red dead blood meridian as they'll never make a film of it.

Spend forever hunting legendary animals. Fall off a mountain and lose the pelt.

Anyone know if the animal will regenerate in this instance?

Yeah, I was still able to make the bear hat after losing the legendary bear pelt.

So anyway I was out on my horse roaming the countryside, and I saw these two fellers up to no good. Anyway I startled them and a shootout ensued...bang bang!...bang bang! Anyway, the two fellers were trying to open a safe with a sledgehammer before I blew them away.

So I blew the safe open with a stick of dynamite (scaring the sh1t out of a horse standing not far from it) and my reward was $40.

Result - two dead individuals and $40 in my pocket. Not bad.

I heard that if you lose a legendary pelt, it still ends up at the trapper and he can use it for crafting. You just won't get the money from selling it to him.

The whole hunting spiel has an air of nope about it. Want a satchel, bring 3 perfect squirrel pelts to camp. Perfect pelts? Squirrels? I'd rather buy it via a microtransaction and I'm not doing that either.

I found those two guys with the safe and just let them at it. Was worried it was the wrong decision. $40 I would have preferred o have but at least it wasn't $400.

Anyone near completing story. Guy I know finished it yesterday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

I'm nowhere near finishing it. I've played about 10 hours of poker for a grand profit of around $10. I keep faffing about the place doing nonsensical stuff, taking a bath, eating out, trying to read names of people of gravestones, how and when they died. I'm kind of hoping I get tired of this soon as I'm going around doing nothing of real consequence. The odd mission here and there.

I'm definitely going after that white arabian stallion soon. Spent about an hour trying to capture wild horses with no success but I think I know what to do now.

If the story ends shortly after leaving the camp in the snow, then yes, I am quite close.

Nowhere near it, still on chapter 2 and learning the ropes.

I don't see the rush to finish the story. I'm just enjoying the game, the world, the crafting, interaction with NPCs, exploring new places etc.

Game is massive and the story for me is something that happens intermittently.

Found them too...shot one guy and the other bolted so I lassoed him and left him hogtied in a field somewhere :D

Then I realised I had no dynamite

Also managed to finally get 3 perfect rabbit skins!

Found 2 ****e hawks robbing a stage coach last night. Shot them and hog tied the driver. Then tried to blow open the stage coach lock box with dynamite but just ended up setting it on fire. The driver was unfortunately quite close to the coach and the fire spread to him. Couldn't save him. Felt more annoyed about the loss of loot than the horrible death inflicted on the driver.

I would if I knew where to get one. I keep looking in the shops. I have found most of the other things people have asked for.

Is the tasks log glitched as well? I assume its meant to show current ongoing tasks and missions, but my mine is full of ones that I completed ages ago, making it useless. Maybe I need to restart.

I greet a good few people when I'm roaming around on my horse or walking through a town and most I meet are decent.

Greeted some fella and he gave a friendly reply. I then said he had a beautiful horse and he turned hostile and drew his gun. I finished him off. Didn't want to kill him but if someone draws a gun on me, it will not end up well for them.

Filled with murderous rage here. Mugged and made a fool of.

It's a random encounter, but I'm gonna spoiler it anyway. Walking through Saint Denis (I got on the train the other day and just stayed on it to there, wasn't there as part of the story).
I was on horseback to the gunsmith when a fella calls me over and says do you wanna make really easy money. But I can't talk about it here, he says, follow me. So I go to follow him into a dark alley, but know something is up so I go back and get my double barrel shotgun out of my horse just in case. Anyway, he starts talking briefly and POW, some lad bashes me from behind. Woke up in the graveyard a good bit away, with 700 dollars gone out of my pocket.

Does anyone know if I can come across these basterds again? I tried waiting where it happened for about 4 nights, but nothing. I know it's only a game, but I'm sick that I was conned so handy. I was only after getting the four gold bars too :(
