Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd agree his Mary Lou isn't the best, but his Leo and Murphs are very good.

    Correct Butters...correct.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,492 ✭✭✭Sir Oxman

Nope, sorry, way too shrill, too Dubbalin, not even close.

You done got this one wrong Oxxter.
    Yer ruining it for me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,723 ✭✭✭serfboard

his Mary Lou is terrible, no. where ..near.
I disagree - his Mary Lou is not his best impression, but to say it's nowhere near is ... nowhere near right.

    Incorrect, nowhere near.

    Way too ‘aggressive’ and hard.

Should emphasize the ‘name checking’ every 30 seconds.

    Not emphasizing the ‘rrrrrs’

Listened back to episodes one and two and confirmed my assertion.

Got most practically spot on except ML.

Has her portrayed as a kind of ‘fishwife’

    She is nowhere near that.

Way off the mark there. Way way off.

    Sorry dude.

Wrong. If I listen to the programme, I don't need to be reminded who it is that he is impersonating when I hear his Mary Lou.

Sorry dude, he gets almost all the others right ,but ML is nowhere near.

    What did I say?

    NOWHERE NEAR.

    Now,

You can roar and shout and spin around all you like but the answer is

    NOWHERE NEAR.

    Thanking you.

"You can roar and shout", says the man using caps. Lol.

To say his Mary Lou is "nowhere near" is "nowhere near" right. Caps or no caps.

    Sorry my friend, nowhere near.

I can carry on as long as you like, dude, the response will always be the same.

    Let the games begin......

Arra yeah - 'tis subjective, you see, like arguing that blue is a better colour than red.

    You say 'tis - I say 'tisn't.

No it’s not, it’s either a good impression or it’s not.

    And it’s not.

    Soz dude.

No it’s not, it’s either a good impression or it’s not.
And whether or not it's a good impression is like arguing about which is a better colour - it's subjective.

And as I've said, the impression is not his best, but it's close enough.

Sorry, most of his others are excellent.

ML.. no.... too harsh, too aggressive, too high pitched.

    Nowhere near......

    Soz pal.

ML ... too harsh, too aggressive, too high pitched.
    Fair enough - as I've said it's not 100%.
    Nowhere near......
It's near enough to be recognisable.

35% with the wind behind him.

He has her as a ‘harridan’ type person.

    She’s nowhere near that.

Bit of a disappointing show this week considering the amount of material available, and I say this as a fan. Maybe my expectations were too high given the results and the reactions?

I loved the bit with all the fogeys on the terrible public transport. It could have done with being a longer one, seeing as it is election week. We got no Trump and Melania.

I liked his Twitter profile during the election. Great commentary.

I'd say he has her as a middle-class Dub pretending to be a salt-o'de-earth type, like so many others have done in different times and places.
It's an old trick. Some might even say it's an old disorder of the mind.

Whatever way he has her,Dan, it’s by far his worst, nowhere near.

Better up his game .....the way things are going.

To be honest, early last year she was a lot more abrupt and contrarian and he just never changed the voice to reflect her 'mellowing out' over the course of the year.

The Virgin Media/TV3 sketch was pretty funny.

I've said it before, I suspect he's on Da Lahv Lahn Thread - or at least reads it for some Joe Duffy inspiration so to speak and dat.....

Sorry Tiny, never got her even remotely right.

I told the tool the answer.. the rrrrs.....as in the paerrrty , the Gaarrrdee.

Who does the tool think he is codding .

So, today Oliver Callan tweeted this: https://twitter.com/olivercallan/status/1236947223893757958
And just in case that tweet gets deleted, here is what is said:
Absolutely no need to cancel #StPatricksDayParade The risk of contracting Covid-19 remains very very low. Of course, at risk groups should stay away. The rest just need to wash our hands and go about our business. It’s a shame ppl love to be dramatic, and secretly long for panic.
I like Callan's Kicks, I find his take on things to (usually) be spot-on, but this is wrong. He has been taken to task on it on twitter in the replies to that tweet, and rightly so.

Callan, in my opinion is stepping out of his lane.

There are others in that field, one in particular, who seem to think they a commentators of a political nature.

Yeah, I agree. Sensitive and life-threatening topics like thiss should be left to the real experts - like Joe Duffy.

He must have a few paddywhackery gigs lined up for the 'festive' week that's in it.

I was surprised to see such utter mince being written by him.
I'm not worried myself, but I wonder how many of those in really vulnerable groups would be seriously adversely affected by the PD parades going ahead. I'm damn sure it would be a substantial number of avoidable deaths.
Ok, death isn't avoidable in the long run, but you knar wor Oy mean.

Don’t know why you are surprised Dan, this guy bangs the drum big time for a certain party.... and it’s not FG and FF.

Perfectly entitled to of course, but it’s nice to know where we stand.

To give him credit he put his hands up and admitted he was wrong. Not something others in RTE would do so easily.

He had a wealth of unconsciously funny material to work with this past week.
Half the clowns he was ripping on virtually wrote the sketches themselves, they're so ridiculous.

He pretty much just had to repeat exactly Eamonn Ryan's original speech.
I was half asleep when I heard it the first time and just assumed I was listening to a sketch. It was only when I saw it on TV later I realised it wasn't a joke.
