Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

When looking at new slurry tankers is there any point going beyond a splash plate?
I know Reggie dropped more for the wagtail spreader, but then he is contacting.

By this, I mean financial viability of the extra for dribble, trailing shoe, wagtail etc.
I don't see many going for these options unless they are contracting or operating in a big scale.

Can you get the grant ? Buy a dribble bar system instead of a trailing shoe. Also have you the work to justify a new tank ? I have a feeling the splash plate along with the fancier version will be banned in the coming years

If you are buying new go for the grant and this will cover the cost of the dribble bar ,surely the way forward is dribble bar with all the bulshlt about the ammonia emissions

How much is a dribble bar setup approximately and I presume they can be retrofitted with only some additional mounting points needed on the tanker.

Approx 13.5k for dribble bar. If you have a 30inch door at rear if the tanker then a dribble bar can be retro fitted at any stage

    Only trailing shoe need mounts

What size of a tanker is that equipped with dribble bar?
Surely is not just the dribble bar?

Anyone buy or have experience of these multi-function tools rather as shown below? A few for sale currently in various outlets and I'm a bit tempted.

No, that's just the dribble bar on its own

Yeah that's just the dribble bar at 13.5k. The tanker is extra

Can see a lot of tankers going for scrap when that law comes in!

I can’t see that. Lots of places only suits to 1100/1300g tanks. A dribble bar will be some weight addition to one of them tanks

Think it weighs 500kg or there abouts

I thought it was more but most smaller tanks on smaller tyres and the weight could cause structural issues to rear of tanker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭SuperTortoise

The uncertanty over the splash plate is enough for me to hold off buying a tanker, obviously the beef price is also a major factor going forward, i'm going to hold tight for another while.

When splash plates are banned, and i do think it's a "when" and not "if" i think there will be a cutoff, so from 2020 for example onwards all new tankers sold won't come with a splash plate, i think they'll leave some wiggle room for lads that bought tankers before the cutoff, that's my take on it anyway.

Tankers axle has to be further back than normal

My guess is from 2021 there will be a total ban from 1 June no matter your deragation and it will creep back every year till its a total ban

You do far more damage with one of those tanks than a 2500 gallln machine with proper boots on it.

All derogation farms will probably have to spread all slurry with a low emission spreader when the next nitratres derogation comes up for review and all slurry after June 1st will have to be low emissions on non derogation farms as well.

They may have a later date and a roll back over a number of years but the writing is on the wall as far as splash plate spreading is concerned.

My guess a total ban outright wouldn't be taken too happily do they will take the long road

Going to fix rear door and purchase an end cap for road haulage.
I don't think transporting slurry on road without one is safe, especially giving the financial and environmental costs.
Will make a bracket for spreader plate for haulage.

How much is Bauer type end cap.

12 or maybe 11plate as that model was a stop gap.
It's a 570 with new stickers and before the 13 plates arrived with 'Claas' board on the auger

You could look for sand tyres. It's what the military use. It's kinda a 50/50 tyre

I wonder with a different rim would an atv tyre fit? There's a AT 25 x 10 - 12 tyre on the Quadtruk here.
    255/65 - 12 in old money.

    Small rim but big tyre.

Would it take the weight of the engine and that ? It’s a 4 stud rim

    4 stud rim. Even better.

There's a spacer/adjuster on the back of this to bring it out. It is bolted in to the existing hub and adjusts for atv rims.
I have no pic of it but it's an aluminium or stainless type of thing.

I'd say if they'd fit they'd take the weight.
For off road use only though or up to 40km/hr and then humming.

A set of winter tyres would give ya a bit more grip than normal tyres and still be decent on the road too.

They look the job. Yeah it would rarely do over that. I’d probably have to take into account the wheel arches on the van

You'll get smaller tyres that'll fit that rim too. But you get the idea.

The arches are the most important bit. Don't cut if you can help it.

Talk to an experienced tyre fitter and they'll tell you in a few seconds what'll work.

Other options are lift kits if you want bigger tyres but you're going bigger money then.
