Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just seen a front linkage mounted rake on a tractor with a mchale baler. Serious weapon on the front of it.

Something like this, but longer when folded.

Are those air accumulators for brakes at the back? Standard?

What is the bit of piping on the LHS for between the arm and the accumulator/reservoir?

Whilst I'm being nosy, what are the orange, green and blue circular yokes either side of the top link?
-Because no one bothers to empty airtanks of water they now filter it to help reduce condensation build up on inside so takes more space for air tanks. Some brands now even squeeze fuel tanks into the gap around the rear wheels.
    -Covers for the spools

After it’s first day of work. There’s a few slight differences to the old tractor. It’s about 6 inches higher than the old one. It’s a lot quieter in the cab, a bit quicker on the road. It has a twin turbo so the delay for the turbo is non existent. It really made a difference when I was facing the tractor and tank up a hill, it stayed pulling away. If you put the pto going and get up off the seat it will knock off. A bit of a pain if you forget.

Sounds good so far! How did you manage to fill the tanker if the pto stops when you leave the seat? I’d say that’s something that can be switched off or bypassed....

Yeah that's on the Massey here. A pain especially if agitating.
What I do is sit up off the set and turn on the PTO. It engages and stays going as you're not on the seat

Mechanic in Kohoes was only telling me the other day there is some easy way to override that, something about flicking the pto button twice?

Usually you’ve a little button nearby you can press once pro is running that lets you out. G2m if yours is a 5700 I’m sure you can turn it off with the 4 cross shaped button/dash menu facility?

That’s what I’m doing aswell. Had baling yesterday evening. Plenty of pto power when the bale is just ready. Usually the old tractor would start dying away just when the bale is ready, especially when going up a hill. The bits that were giving trouble on the old tractor on the engine and front axle have been changed. Plenty of floor space for gloves, rags and I have a small toolbox with bits and pieces. Only other small downside is the toolbox is smaller and the holder for my travel mug is blocked by the handle for the right hand side door ( first world problems). Waiting on my Bluetooth radio, fire extinguisher, seat cover and mat. Also getting a fitting for the backend for an airline.

    What was the trolling?
Last I seen he got annoyed with a discussion that started about the poor visibility of his rear indicators when the mower folded up.

To be fair that was not a poor reflection of him or his machinery but is a genuine concern with most of the manufacturers of mounted mowers. Maybe I'm missing something but it is a discussion forum.

You've to be prepared to defend every post and picture or explain your reasoning for it on it here most times. It does get tiring but an odd time you'll learn something new or see things from someone else's perspective. :)
Even it does mean when you post a picture of fencing and someone else posts that they saw similar fencing with posts knocked down and fencing rolled in a ball by cattle the next year. :D

I hate machinery with a vengeance and driving tractors especially, so wouldn't be envious of anyones new toys.
And I wouldn't be jumping with joy at a christening party when someone produces the baby pics either.......... does that mean I'm jealous of not having a sprog of my own......I doubt it

Instead of gears with teeth the gearbox has variable speed pulleys and belts. One pulley squeezes together and the other pulley sides open out to change the speed of the output shaft. The belts wear, maybe that's why they're cheaper at high hours.

Computer selects correct gear for you at all time....when you push throttle sends signal to gearbox and that adjusts engine rpm

(If its same gearbox im.thinking of)

    No!
    No belts whatsoever Blue.

    Hydrostatic motors, stepper motors etc.
I’ve a few vario box tractors here and won’t be changing to powershift again, ever.
If you buy well proven vario systems they’re a lot easier/cheaper to maintain than powershift boxes.
Tractor with 10+k hours gave vario box probs last week...broken wire! Box in perfect condition throughout.

Vario box is akin to the invention of power steering imho.

Ever drive a tractor without power steering Kev? Same difference.

Some vario boxes are dogs. Constant bother and big repair bills.
There are other varios that are bulletproof. The trick is to buy one that’s well proven.
We’ve vario boxes from 160hp to over 400. The 160 is in a 6 series Deere and is certain to give trouble...long story as to why I bought it, but it has only 4.5k hours on it yet
The story on the NH varios is to stick to the 230+hp models on the more recent models (CHN manufactured varios) and stay away from smaller models. The older CNH varios were a Steyr designed ZF manufactured box and were generally bulletproof...Case CVX, Steyr CVT, NH TVT all have that box.
The older JD 7x20/30 were also a good box.
Fendt/Massey varios are dogs and too easily fcuked up by poor operators.

    * I’ll get lambasted for taking the name of Fendt/Massey in vain, but plenty evidence to prove they’re dogs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,415 ✭✭✭visatorro

Case CVX is meant to be a great yoke.
Fendt are alleged to be the dogs bollox but as dawg says poor operater will **** up anything.
Great comfort with anyway vario. It's a mix of automatic and hydrostatic.

Maybe rooster man might comment on how him and the old lad are getting on with their vario box.

I’ve had some beauties on the CVX/TVTs and no bother...caught an Irish lad in a field going from 40k forward to reverse at 40k and forward again etc to ‘demo’ to his buddy how ‘good’ vario is...first bit of bother on that box was last week and was only a broken wire, after 10+k hours.

    * Irish lad had to hitch hike to the airport...

What sort of checks do youse do before letting folk out to cultivate fields and drive around in tractors etc?

Seen a lad demonstrate vario by slamming the lever backwards at full speed before alright. He didn't own the tractor either!

Think of them as the engine drives a hydraulic pump, which inturn drives the gearbox. Outside of heavy draft work vario is just easier to use and generally smoother.
Early models didn't have strong enough components and they do need better brakes as less engine braking or down shifting like a gearbox but isn't an issue if driven a little more sympatheticaly.
Once used to a vario you look at everything else with a view of disdain tbh.

    Are you looking to upgrade?!

Well flicking from forward to reverse at speed would say that fella shouldn't even be let near a spade let alone a tractor.
I know quite a few townies who went out to Australia with **** all tractor driving knowledge and ended up doing things that they'd never get to do at home.
