Bit of an experimental thread where people are invited to post their favourite 50 albums.

Now obviously this is going to take some time so how about if people post them over time (editing their original list) and update the thread with posts explaining their picks. Maybe when they discovered the album, what they enjoyed so much about it etc. They don't have to be in any order of preference, picking 50 albums is enough work. I've not given it much thought yet but I'll lash out a few certs for me right now.

    In no order:

    1. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
    2. Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
    3. GZA - Liquid Swords
    4. The Beatles - Revolver
    5. The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper
    6. Love - Forever Changes
    7. Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
    9. RJD2 - Deadringer
    10. Arcade Fire - Funeral
    11. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
    12. The Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole

I'll add more over time. That's enough for now.

I predict thread will be a short list of long lists...

Dark Side of the Moon is my favourite album. IMO is as close to perfection an album can possibly be. The songs flow into each other seamlessly and despite the variety of sounds throughout the album it still feels one long uniform piece of music and not a collection of songs which is important for me.

From ground breaking electronic On The Run flowing into a soulful vocal improvisation over a piano driven song in The Great Gig in the Sky moving through the earthy funky sound of Money and other sounds, it still has a certain tone throughout hidden in there for me.

Lyrically it's one of the best I've heard also. 'Time' is a particular favourite of mine lyrically. Just sums up the insecurities people have about how they have spent their time and wondering if it could have been better spent etc. There's themes running throughout the album too. Particularly the theme of insanity which accompanies the psychedelic sound of the music perfectly imo.

Ok that's my thoughts on one of the albums. I'll post more thoughts on other picks over time.

I have 8 of the above, of which 5 would probably be in my top 50 most days, depending on my humour.

You have just made me put on Forever Changes for the first time in a long time. I was one year old when it was released. Having older siblings has some advantages. I'll give Nick Drake a spin later on.

Will work on a list. Not something that can easily be spat out.

That's a really good list. Definitely a few there that will make it into mine. Bob Marley - Exodus is the seminal reggae album imo. I'd have Bjork too, but my favourite would be Homogenic. Very interesting blend of electronic sounds with orchestral sweeps with Bjork's achingly beautiful vocals, it really hits home for me. Joga is a stand out track for me. Great video too, directed by Michel Gondry.

Very interesting picks in the likes of Mandrill and Lovage. Judgement Night was an awesome hip hop/rock mash up and a sweet movie to boot! :D
