    Hi theenergy,

    Thanks for your message.

In order to answer your question, we need to know if there is a fault with the meter or with the actual Pay As You Go gas card. Either way make sure you hang onto your receipt. What message did the meter give you when you inserted your card? Have you wiped down your card in case it is dirty? Try to insert the card again and if this fails and you get message Card Fail 35, the next step would be to try a new card. If you get any other please let us know and we can advise accordingly.

You can purchase a brand new card for a small charge at your local Payzone outlet. Don't put any money on your card and bring it home and insert it into the meter. The meter should beep and activate the card. If this does not happen, it must be a fault with the meter and you would need to contact Gas Networks Ireland on 1850 200 694. If the meter accepts the card, you can go down to the local shop and put the minimum top up on the card. If this works then we know it is definitely the card and not the meter. You can then call the gas Pay As You Go team on 1850 301 030 with your receipt and the date of your payment. They will then be able to organise to send a credit through the system for you to pick up on a future top up. It usually takes a few tops up and you ask in the shop for a credit check to pick it up. If the new card does not solve the problem, you will need to call Gas Networks Ireland first to arrange to fix the meter and once the work has been completed then we can arrange to credit your meter through the top up system.

    Regards,
    Aoife
