Isn't that kind of how journalist works?

What difference does it make? Chri5t, the negativity of some people is unbelieveable!!

A reporter does a piece that the OP correctly describes as "good press on Limerick for a change" which is aimed at visitors to the City.

Well, it's a bit disingenuous if he's being paid to say nice things, isn't it? Then again, that's marketing I suppose.

Is also journalism, they don't write for the good of their health. They do it for a pay cheque.

There is a difference between PR and journalism though.

"10 Great Reasons to Visit Limerick"

Some positive coverage of Limerick in today's Irish Independent:

It's just an advert, paid for by some group with a vested interest in Limerick.

Jesus some people really are a drag.

It's a great article. They picked out ten great things that have a lot of buzz around Limerick these days and are actually relevant. The pictures look well too. More of this please.

If he had written a negative article called "10 Things to Avoid in Limerick", people would be up in arms. He writes a very positive article on Limerick City and people are still up in arms. Some posters here just can't be pleased.

Well done to all businesses listed in the Top 10.

Some people have very little clue as to how travel "journalism" works

What you seem to be implying is that some vested interest in Limerick paid for Pol O'Conghaile to come to Limerick to write a "positives only" article on Limerick.

Probably The Limerick Marketing Company......(how dare they attempt to market Limerick)

There's no way that Cork, Kilkenny or Killarney would ever lower themselves to pay for positive tourist information. It's a Limerick only thing.

The top part is exactly what I'm saying and of course other places do it too. That's the whole point. It's an advert nothing more.

How do you know the piece was paid for and if so, whats the problem?
We have plenty of nice things to do and places to see in Limerick. Getting the message out there was the problem before.

Surely a travel writer's job is to come to an area and pick out the best / nicest things to see & do and write an article about it.

FFS, how can a thread with a good news story about Limerick descend into a b!tch fest so quickly??? Right folks, if you want to debate journalism or advertising find the correct forum.
