Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Gerrard can't do a lot without ball, when he touches it he links up.
    He can't do much more.

1-1 at half time about right. Benteke has been class.

Rodgers must really hate Javi Manquillo

Given the injuries I don't think there was much choice to be honest.

He could tackle, track back, y'know defensive stuff.

Particularly with Gerrard on the pitch, who's predictably contributed nothing, it makes no sense to play without a striker.

I don't care whether Balotelli is the biggest gob****e in the history of football or whether he literally drowned puppies in his spare time. We need someone, anyone, up front.

There's some decent moves against Villa on the break but there's no presence on the ball that the rest can play it off.

Balotelli won't contribute much in the box but at least you can bounce the ball off him.
There's nobody playing up front with their back to goal. We're trying to play direct football when we've 1 player in the team who can actually beat a man.

I daresay we have a different script in mind though!

Its like playing with 10 with Gerrard. Way off the pace. Should bring on Balotelli & put Sterling on the wing.

We are playing with 10 with Gerrard on the pitch its ridiculous. Move can into midfield, then Johnson on for Gerrard. Henderson isn't getting around the box enough.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,855 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

And what would you say Henderson has been

Slightly less anonymous, but that's not saying a lot. Henderson is playing deeper though, and Gerrard has barely had a touch as an attacker.

If sterling had a few lungfulls of that laughing gas he might have been light enough to have risen for that last moreno cross

Jesus out possessed by Villa. They're not even trying.

Too many square pegs in round holes again today. I hate seeing Sterling up front on his own, would prefer to see Borini up there with Sterling and Couthino playing off him.

Usual over reaction to Gerard markovic and Henderson have been worse but let's ignore that keep concentrating on Gerard

Yeah Sterling has looked fairly isolated, feeding off scrappy longish passes

    Gil for N'Zogbia, please/

Whatever he's done to annoy you Tim, ignore it! Let Gil loose in the space that N'Zogbia's getting......

It'll be Sinclair for N'Zogbia at about 70 minutes, won't it.... And Sinclair will miss an obvious pass and shoot from 50 yards instead

Balotelli on for Can at half time it looks like anyhow. That'll change our shape anyhow.

Wouldn't mind Gerrard behind Sterling and Balotelli. The diamond works for us.

He's in the trenches with a pretty bitey Villa midfield.

    Gerrard just isn't contributing.

That's hardly surprising at this stage though.

If Liverpool lose this it will be The Gerrard thread (already is kinda) posted in by non Villa fans (we will head back to our own thread) and Liverpool fans argueing back methinks.

As a Villa fan so far 1-1 is deserved but I'd worry Liverpool have been playing into our hands so far and that could change in the second half. If some of their players change how little of an impact they have had on the game so far or if they actually get an out and out CF on the pitch I might be more worried.

Every time Benteke scores at the moment I expect him to be linked to another team the next morning in the paper. He really is hitting form at the perfect time for his agent but fck it if Villa stay up and get to the final on his back no complaints here

Will be Em bare assing if Balotelli comes on and canters around throwing his hands in the air.

Thought we dont want him doing that stuff?

I don't want him doing anything on the pitch at the moment but since he's there he may aswell put it some sort of effort. Obviously even that is too much for him.

    We lost midfield battle
    We need to take control
Only then will we see difference
Need to work the wingers more
Especially if we are 4 at back

    From BBC
Despite finding the first goal of the day, the Brazilian has been Liverpool's most wasteful player, completing just 71% of his passes.

Markovic was shocking keep Gerard for set pieces alone

Richardson, just once do a simple thing well. Get a good cross in, all that space and hits 1st defender

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,500 ✭✭✭Drexel

Pool need to tighten up. Villa getting through with ease

Gerrard at DM and *suddenly* Villa have loads of space between the lines.

    Oh and explain this logic!
Grealish, running straight at goal in soace, decides to pass.
N'Zogbia, wider, 2 defenders on him decides to shoot

    Empty seats

Mostly in the corporate seats that aren't part of either clubs allocation I think.
