Coffee - fair trade?

I found out recently that the larger size coffee at my local well known outlet is merely more hot water .

the defence they put forward was that they give you a double shot in both the sizes. I say however, that the coffee strength in regular should be replicated in large. if the product is best in its regular portion - it is therefore diluted and thus inferior in the dearer large version.:(

How does the price compare single/double - how much is the second shot of hot water?

The outlet is trading unfairly - sorry if the pun was a bit cryptic.

the water is 35cent when it tops up the regular size cup.

Not really about the cost of water... I'm not happy that what passes as the strength of coffee in the smaller container is not available in the dearer large cup merely being the larger by virtue of nothing other than hot water.

For an extra 35 cents I'd expect another full strength cup of coffee.

Charging just for water and selling it as a double measure is just a rip off.

The business model is normally that they have your business for one cup of coffee and can make a few cents more by offering you twice as much for very little more. Win/win except in this case its loose/rip off.

Fair trade normally refers to something else when talking about coffee

Well, while I agree with your point, it seems to me that there are 2 easy solutions here

    1 don't buy largest size
    2 take your business elsewhere

Also have you complained to companies HQ?

I've sent them an email on their site and amazingly haven't heard back?

Use the large cup and press the regular button twice.

I don't think I'd be allowed behind the counter.

Is this well known outlet a chain or franchise? If it is I'd complain to head office as what they are doing may not be normal company policy.

In local shops I've complained to the manger/owner and often got good results.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over the company.

I have complained on their website and hope for a reply. Presume it's company policy
