Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yes Tactical Strike and Reconnaisance .

Did you realise that the modern day Tornado is a smaller version of the same idea? Many of the Tornados systems are developements of TSR2 systems.

    Olé
    Olé Olé Olé.

In the mid-naughties the Football Association of Ireland moved from it's previous location in Merrion Square into a newly-refurbished building in Abbotstown. Who were the previous occupants of the building?

Even though I was interviewed for a job there in the 80's, I couldn't tell you who was there before. confused.png

They obviously didn't impress you then. They probably couldn't afford you anyway.

I knew that this would be a testing question.

Which building are we asked about? Merrion Square or Abbotstown?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭garancafan

    Abbotstown.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,108 ✭✭✭Jellybaby1

I was talking about Merrion Square, wayyyyyy back when.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 32,688 ✭✭✭✭ytpe2r5bxkn0c1

I haven't a clue, as not being a Dub, I never heard of Abbotstown until the Bertie bowl.

Merrion Square used to be populated by mainly medical people, or maybe a foreign embassy. Can't do any better than that I'm afraid.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭garancafan

Oooh JB - the question is about the building in Abbotstown!

tampopo is homing in, in the sense that the answer is a state scientific service.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭garancafan

Glad that Srameen (given his scientific background) is involved - and that he was able to take time off from his preparation of the questions that he is due to post :D.

Whisky Xray Yankee? Phonetic alphabet I think.
Might be a while before I think of a question if correct!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭garancafan

Nice one. Just needs an echo in whisky.

The FAI headquarters building was originally a purpose-built laboratory building occupied by the State Laboratory.

No. But there is a commonality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,636 ✭✭✭feargale

No. But there is a commonality.

    All are state capitals.

P.S. Except the one named after the Big Fellow, of course.

What does a European badger, a red fox and a black rat have in common?

They all (are assumed to) spread disease?

Allegedly true, but not what I'm looking for.

    Phoenix

Ah yes, I missed the word 'capital' in that question.

They are not indigenous to Ireland?

I'm zoologist and I can think of about 20 things they have in common from a biology point of view. What angle are you coming from?

And they are all characters in Farthing Wood.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,253 ✭✭✭bonzodog2

OK clue time, its a word thing not a biology thing. I bet Stephen Fry would know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,810 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Wild guess, do they all have a repeated word in their latin names? I only know rattus rattus but the others may be the same.

You have it looksee. Meles meles (badger), Rattus rattus (guess!) and Vulpes vulpes (fox)

What is the date of the closing ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,111 ✭✭✭PMBC

That's too easy as you can just look it up. But I'm too lazy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,810 ✭✭✭✭looksee

You could just look up most of the answers, but where is the satisfaction in that? I think it is reasonably certain that all the regulars are more interested in the spirit of the game than just 'winning'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,111 ✭✭✭PMBC

OK. It was meant as a joke but I'm a much chastened person now. I think I knew the answer to the very first question, though.
    Hope you all enjoy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,636 ✭✭✭feargale

    Phoenix

    Correct. Question please.
