Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

close round, could go either way

this should be ais all the way now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,910 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

1-1 but easy to see it as 2-0. Ais needs a big round.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,813 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

    Ais gets hiptossed a lot

That same trip causing Ais problems, she really needs to dish out some punishment the rest of this round if she wants the win.

How could you possibly give the second round to Markos?!

Unlucky Ais. Really thought she'd kick on from the second round but the better fighter won.

Bollox! Knew a judge would score the 2nd round to Randa.

    Great sub defense by Ais

Seriously missed opportunity for ais....she was dominated in every aspect of that fight...she did well in the latter part of round 2 but that was it!?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,628 ✭✭✭themandan6611

with the exception of McGregor the rest of the SBG stable's stand up is absolute crap

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,795 ✭✭✭dulux99

Anyone have any idea why John Kavanagh wasn't there? I didn't see him in Paddy's last fight either.

Sad but true. I imagine John is a great BJJ and overall MMA coach but they could really do with an elite striking coach like the blackzillians have with Henry Hooft

She didnt dominate on the ground or the takedown, she got out wrestled and spent too much time locked up in that headlock and trying to get out of the armbar to have any impact in the 3rd round. Good fight but the better fighter won.

The problem is that they're not Conor MCGregor, that goes for 99% of fighters from every team in the world.

SBG is doing pretty damn good by the looks of it, you're not suddenly crap if your fighters are losing in high profile fights to the best in the world.

ah come on, most are riding Conor's wave, have a serious look at their stand up and take Cathal for example there is no development there at all and Ais's is very poor too

Wouldn't class paddy or Gunnar as crap. They're never going to be confused as elite strikers but there miles above cathal and ais....is it due to mcgregor's boxing background where he would have grown up training head movement, footwork, judging distance, timing etc??

I struggle to understand how professional high level athletes don't seem to be able to improve in an area they spend so much time doing?? Maybe I need to re watch his fights but I can't see an evolution or improvement in cathals striking since his CW days

Gunnar has good stand up. Agreed on Cathal though.

What a class round. Have to say Womens 115 is one of the most exciting divisions in the UFC, would prefer watching one of their fights over a Mighty Mouse fight any day.

No shame in losing to Rick Story.

Jesus lad, good compared to what ? Gunnar ain't that hot at all on the feet, he is better than Cathal striking but has that SBG chin up style.

Who is actually their striking coach ?

Great fight so far. Some nasty knees in the clinch by Letourneau.

I'm not sure what "riding Conor's wave" means. Pendred isn't much fun to watch in the cage at times, but he was pretty dominant on the European scene. Same for Holohan, undefeated in 11 pro fights before being signed and Daly is one of the most highly-regarded female MMA fighters in the world.

They're winning some and losing some (mostly winning by a long margin) in the UFC. I don't know how that would lead you to think that they're riding McGregor's wave, the fact that they're winning fights in the UFC should tell you that the UFC wasn't signing enough Irish fighters in the first place.

Great scrap really enjoyable to watch! I'd say we'll have a lot of brilliant fights as the division sorts itself out over the next 12 months

I think most of them are trying to copy conor without being able to pull it off. Even the little nate lad thinks he is a conor clone.

There is far to much flag waving at the weigh ins etc. We get it your Irish.

Of course, Daly who has been fighting for the guts of ten years suddenly decided "Hey I want to be like that McGregor guy off the telly!"

    Good observation.

riding the wave means that they may not be in the UFC only for Conor

winning by a long margin, hopefully you are not including Prendred's lasy 2 fights in that stat

as for Ais being one of the most highly regarded female MMA fighters in the world  seriously, what does that mean ?. Most people won't know who she is
