Now then. Might have a contest here yet.

India nailed team selection. Picked three spinners who are all handy batsmen too. Batting depth could decide this. England got it all wrong and have a stupid long tail to compound the error.

India's deep batting not happening here, apparently Root is the new Shane Warne...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Another one for Root, 3 in 3 for 0! Who would have thought India could bat worse than England yesterday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,269 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Not this innings anyway all thanks to Root. Still read the conditions right.

What a collapse. Got level and fell apart.

Boycott always said - you need to see both teams bat before opining on a pitch

The pitch is simply not up to standard. Don't know if any of that is down to the pink ball.

Crawley's 53 and Rohit's 66 are looking like double hundreds in this match!

Root 4 for 5 runs may well improve his Test best of 4-87, although he does already have a 4-5 in First Class cricket

Could be a very low scoring game and done in 3 days at this rate. If Root can take 4 Ashwin etc must be eyeing up serious damage but this has been woeful from India.

What are the odds India will be batting again before the day is done?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,269 ✭✭✭Gillespy

England could be five down by the time they clear this deficit.

England's team selection is going to come back to bite them here. With a tail that long 33 is a handy lead on this pitch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Root gets 5! A small but handy lead of 33 on this pitch...England need to bat much better obviously. Michael Vaughan has England favourites now having said they were doomed yesterday, he does like a bit of hyperbole!

So 115 all-out was not much below a par score on this wicket. Questions will need to be asked of the BCCI on the standard of the pitches in this series. The only thing to note is that we are unlikely to know by how much it would have deteriorated on Days 4 and 5!

Ah he-ur!! First ball. Game will be over inside two days!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,753 ✭✭✭Doodah7

0/2 after three balls!! India may well win by an innings with a lead of 33!

It's possible India won't need to bat again at this rate. Bairstow is just not a test match no. 3.

What a day!!! England 2 down already!!

He's not and certainly not if they're going to rotate him in and out of the side...he should bat at 6 if anywhere.

    3 down

All the chaos has happened in bright daylight!

How many batsmen have been out to stupid shots/heaves? Sibley another now. Bairstow sweep first ball, purely luck it wasn't out.

Bairstow has been messed around. Took him out of the BBL to play in Sri Lanka so they could rest Stokes. After doing ok there, they send him home to rest missing two games. That's not giving him the best chance.

Totally unneeded by Sibley. I was just about to say how well he was doing. Any lead around 50 now Root would take I reckon.

Root was lucky there - so much doubt you would have thought they had not enough to overturn

Having said that the 3rd umpire in this match has already lost a lot of credibility

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

    Stokes gone!

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 76,290 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

On the topic of Bairstow, this is the sub-continent. He has been part of the squad rotation policy and did not have much opportunity to prepare in local conditions. Equally though if you look at all the scores in this match I don't think you can drop anyone based on batting in this match

I think in English conditions he would flourish again, but equally there is another test to go and he will probably get a chance of redemption then

At this stage though Pope has slotted into the no 6 spot and needs to spend more time there before moving up the order. He's a real talent they need to take care to protect as he could still be performing at this level in another decade

Need to see the ball tracking of that Stokes wicket. Looked to be going down leg to me. Got away with one with Root though, that was defiantly pad first.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Root's escape hasn't lasted...gone now for 19. Patel has taken 17 wickets since debut in first test of series!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,995 ✭✭✭boccy23

What's the record for the shortest test? This one won't go 5 sessions at this rate.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,753 ✭✭✭Doodah7

12 wickets gone today in a session and a half!! I'd say Moeen Ali regrets taking the plane home! And England regret not playing Bess.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Ashton comes to the party...Pope bowled! England in big trouble...2 day test?

    66-6

what are the odds of England opening up their bowling with Leach and Root?
