England might just do this. Batsmen look set enough. Is Wood able to bat?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Jimmy well able to dish it out when he needs to.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,269 ✭✭✭Gillespy

I like him in interviews and haven't seen anything remotely bad before. He would be told to do that. Ten ball over of short balls wasn't his idea.

India gone flat. Buttler looks comfortable enough which is surprising as he's been jittery in the series so far.

Brillant by Bumrah! How did Illingworth not give that first time?

Spoke too soon, what a beauty by Bumrah. Poor miss by the umpire.

55 balls, 2 wickets. Great drama

    Butler gone!

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,275 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

    9 down.

Kohli will take flight if India take the final wicket

According to BBC a team declaring after lunch on 5th day then going on to win has only ever happened once before. Be an incredible achievement if India pull this off

    All over!! What a win.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,963 ✭✭✭blackcard

    9, 10, Jack all gone

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

What a win...England had played so well on days 2,3 and 4...but today they were a shambles in the field. Incredible afternoon cricket by India!!

Jesus... im not at home so saw nothing of that session but didnt see that coming at lunch....i know bowlers are picked to bowl but there is little to no wag in that tail.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,269 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Siraj again. Bumrah getting Robinson was brilliant. Slow ball round the wicket after a few short balls.

England lost too many wickets in clumps. Was it three hat-trick balls India had. Root after scoring over 200 runs will be sick after this.

Not with that kind of intimidating bowling. Left bad taste for me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,414 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

To be bowled out for 120 on your home patch is pretty dreadful. Fourth innings of the test or first...especially after scoring 391 in that first innings. Series set up nicely though with 3 tests to play and India 1-0 up... plenty of heat in it too now... can’t wait for Wednesday week.

It was about batting the 60 overs though not scoring runs so whatever they got tells you nothing really. They should have survived the overs relatively easily however. A good side would do it four down max. Eight overs short is pretty bad.

Buttler should have been the hero today. He tends to fall short in these situations. A few times now he hasn't finished the job after doing really well to get close.

If stats tickle you, here are some nice ones from the game.

First time open both England openers dismissed for a duck in England.

    First king pair at Lord's

Joe Root's average is exactly 50.00 now.

Alistair Cook had 9 ducks in his whole 161 test career. Burns and Sibley together had 9 this year.

    Averages of the openers...

    Burns : 31.9 (27 tests)

    Sibley : 28.9 (22 tests)

if im Joe Root / Chris Silverwood I’m of the mind to be looking for a couple of openers.

Burns is 31, at least Sibley at 26 has youth on his side.. but in first class cricket his average is 38.1 which isn’t a disaster but he’s played 39 test innings but has only 7 innings of note 50+....

I don't know what they'll do. Pope could come in and reshuffle everyone. Open with Hameed. Or start another round of triailing Moeen and Bairstow at 3.

If Woakes is fit he should come straight in for Curran. If Wood is injured or if he isn't Mahmood should come in.

To me, England lost this after the dismissal of Pant. For the first 6 batsmen, England had 3, slips, gully, short leg at times, maybe a couple of others in catching positions. Then for the tailenders, England had most of their fielders on the boundary. Sky were saying Root was being defensive, afraid to let the scoring rate climb. Yet they were giving away easy singles and India were scoring at a rate of 4 per over. The best way of slowing down the scoring is to take wickets but England didn't have enough players close to the bat. Very poor from Root despite having a great test with the bat

Burns at least is a bit fluid when he gets in. Sibley is just turgid throughout. Dunno have I ever seen such a limited opener. I'd give Hameed a chance to open with Burns also, that's his position after all, not three. There's talk of getting Malan back in at three, but that seems a bit hasty. Push Bairstow up to three, then Root, Pope, Butler, Woakes, et al.

Whoever they go with has to be with a big eye on the Ashes now. Malan has been spoken about for that since he was dropped the last time.

Meanwhile KP has been calling for Liam Livingstone. He is an insane short format talent and in great form. It would be exciting if it works or could be another Jason Roy.

Watching the highlights of the first test again and you’d seriously have to wonder about Root... England desperate for wickets yet Anderson, Broad and Robinson bowling to one slip and a third man who was about two postal codes from his slip he was that wide.... runs being hemorrhaged through the gap off thick edges and guided shots yet Root does nothing... Slips way so far behind the batsmen that two catches off Anderson and Robinson fall short of Buttler/slip

    Live now on YouTube.

Pakistan are 2/3 ...yes you read that right.

110/3 now which is a nice partnership

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,414 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

172/4 now...probably West Indians happy enough ... they know a couple of wickets and it’s well and truly into the tail...

You think in this day and age that in Sabina Park, they’d have more resources to dry the outfield then 12 fellas running around with sponges and towels in their hands...
