David Lloyd sounding absolutely exasperated and bewildered by Joe Root’s field placements, Dinesh Karthick : “he’s out beside silly mid off David, what do you call that position ?”..Bumble: “ I call that position just silly, neither saves runs there or takes catches there, what’s the point, what’s he doing ?”.

Decent day for India, at least they showed some grit and determination. If these two could go big India may make a contest of it but England still overwhelming favourites. Anderson had as off a day as he was on on day 1...England still very reliant on him. Robinson bowled well.

    Agreed.

First innings, all out for 78, on what would prove to be an absolute road of a pitch.. to..you’d imagine scoring or having the ability to score as England did 400 or so...mad, if India manage to not lose the test and remember the weather is set very fair for the remainder of the test, it will be the save of the century.

massive ask still with India still 139 runs behind mind you, 2 days left... going to be a seriously interesting first session... though, English will be nervous if they don’t take a wicket before lunch, not guaranteed that they will considering both batsmen are extremely well set, both batsmen are in the top 5 and top 20 batsmen in world cricket respectfully with more talent arranged around them in the lineup... that first innings shîtshow was an aberration it looks like more then anything endemic so...

india will need to bat till lunch on day 5 you’d imagine..the good weather and time left are the enemy as much as that scoreboard...

save of the century if they manage it...

Great Review there by Root. This will open the door to victory you'd feel, India need more big partnerships. Feel bad for Pujara he deserved a century for the way he batted yesterday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Kohli gone and with it the game! He didn't need to play that. Robinson has bowled well again.

Jeez Ali takes the 7th Indian wicket, as I’m typing Robinson grabs the 8th the Indians they look like rabbits in the headlights, England have been up for it and deserved their result... they have bowled exceptionally this morning, any full time spinner would have been delighted to produce that last Shami wicket taking delivery by Ali, turned about 12 degrees off the pitch.

silly mid on is halfway out to deep mid wicket... you cannot loose the test, why ?

    Series nicely poised now.

Great response by England after Lords, woeful by India all round from the toss to today's capitulation, Pant playing as if he's in T20 mode trying to save a test match. If Kohli wasn't captain his place would be in jeopardy. Roll on the Oval.

A lot of collapses from India over last few years, its a very brittle batting line up.

Pant despite a monster knock last time round has really struggled in England, always likely to nick off with his technique and he does not help himself with how reckless he is at times.

He in England should be batting at 7.

India need to get in another batsman, have Jadeja bat at 8 and then three quicks. No fifth bowler is not ideal but the batting needs something.

Its like the 2018 series never happened for Kohli. Robinson said his plan for him was just basic fourt fifth stump and wait for him to nick it.

An innings win missing so many first choice players is a very good effort. All set up by Anderson taking three in the first session. And not just not Root with the bat. The changes made all worked.

Insane to think India are the team in turmoil after Lord's, it's so fickle.

Naive by Robinson though. Why would he want to come out do the work of the Indian coaches / analysts for them ? That’s a bit fûcking thick to be fair. Needs to keep it zipped.

might as well just call up the batsmen individually and give them the team for the next test and the whole tactical breakdown of the English game plan...

Disappointed that Sky don’t have the rights to the upcoming Ashes series... BT sports will. For a premier sporting duel like the ashes it really for the viewers should not not be shoehorned away on BT.... the sky platform has BT ...

“Included in Sky's Sports Extra package at €10 a month for the first six months and €20 thereafter for existing Sky customers. For non-Sky customers it's €17 per month for the first six months and €34 thereafter....”

Pretty good deal but i don’t think I’ll bite the bullet given the times play will actually start I’d really only be able to stay awake for the first session of each days play.... hopefully there is an AM highlights package on sky...

4th test is underway. England win the toss, put India in, seems like the right decision but if India can navigate the morning the sun will come out and batting may become easier. Buttler and Curran out for England and Woakes and Pope in. Sharma and Shami out with Thakur and Yadav in. Still no place for Ashwin! Seems like we'll get a full test, the weather is generally set fair but the mid-term forecast for the next test isn't good so a win here could be a series-winning victory.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Steady start for India, the ball not doing much for England.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Woakes removes Sharma in his first over, he's already looked more dangerous than Anderson and Robinson.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,269 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Seen it all series batting gets harder after ten or so overs of working on the ball.

Woakes already a big upgrade on Curran. Not surprising given his quality and record in England. Closest thing to Anderson they have in skill and control.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,413 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

7 maiden overs in a row, that’s impressive and a second wicket now too, England will be very satisfied, building real pressure from early.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Rahul gone now lbw to Robinson, pressure was building 35+ dot balls. Kohli at the crease now, has to get a score.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Pujara gone now. Great morning so far for England.

1000% in agreement with Shane Warne, slips way too close, Captain Roots fault, then Root drops the catch, of medium difficulty. He just didn’t move his feet... looked cemented to the ground almost like the statue of Achilles in Hyde Park.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

That's some review, Kohli called it well. Rahane was walking. He needs to make the most of this reprieve, India are in trouble but that would have been a real blow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Robinson gets Kohli, very good bowling by England. Kohli gets 50 but doesn't convert once more...India up against it here, 105/5, they need to get over 200 to be anyway competitive but batting conditions are likely to be better for England so looking ominous for India.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

So 122/6 at Tea. England's on top, India struggling with the pressure of England's bowling which has been very good and consistent but in the main, it's hardly been unplayable.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,413 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

120/6 and it’s only tea first day... Excellent bowling, good catching.

id say india would bite the hand off you if you gave them 220 from here as a first innings total.

Unless their tail wags big time and the same players take early wickets this test is going one way.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

A great counter-attack by Thakur - 31 ball 50. 190/7, still below par but 200+ and at least India would have a sniff in the game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Well they couldn't even get to 200 after that counter attack. Good bowling by England, Woakes really does add to the attack.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,413 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

The remainder of the day is going to be interesting... do England play, if not attacking...purposeful run accumulating cricket ? Or just try and rotate the strike and get to stumps unscathed ? Hopefully they play some shots...india on the back foot, need to nail them, regardless of the time on the clock. Get about 70-80 on the board.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Bumrah removes Burns, India needed that now if they could get one more and in particular Root that might mean we have a game.
