Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The fact that he managed to be manager for 3 different intercounty teams is a wonder given his inability to provide insight on a game.

Good win for Roscommon to get back on the horse. Ran up a good score even allowing for Cavan's deficiencies. Even allowing for the red they looked the likely winners anyway. You'd have to question where to from here for Cavan. Good progress made in 2013 but have been in reverse since. They've come from a low base but take out Mackey and maybe Niall Murray and an ok midfield and they are very average. Argew is an ok club target man at best and once again today he seemed their main tactic.

In fairness to that Cavan FF, he was very isolated in there. The ball into him was poor so it would be difficult to win possession anyway and then he was surrounded by Roscommon players without a Cavan player in sight.

Yeah even if they had one player in close attendance to Argue tp pick up breaks/move the Rossies backs around a bit more he might have had some chance.

Donaghy in Kerry is the prime example of how to use a big man effectively - you need to have support players in close attendance - for long long periods of the game Argue was completely isolated in terms of support.

Argue isn't a full forward. His best position is midfield or the 40 dropping out to support midfield.

Cavan's ball winner in at FF is Eugene Keating but he opted out of the panel this year.

Fair dues to Terry Hyland for bringing the team this far from a very low base but it's time to step away now.

Why did Keating decide not to play this year?

He'd make a big difference to that team.

Is Martin Dunne injured at the moment or why isn't he on the team?

A full forward line with Keating and Dunne would be very dangerous.

The Reilly fella they brought on as a sub looks a classy footballer as well.

Say it again, miserable negative dose of an analyser. When a player did well, all he could do was condemn his opponent.

Not an inspiring person, he makes Ray Houghton sound like a Pollyanna.

They certainly are back on the horse.

Draw on Monday will pair them against Kildare, Longford or Antrim/Fermanagh.

Roscommon can beat all of those.
And then it's a 4th round between (likely) Cork or Westmeath.
A draw v Cork would do them the world of good.

The official line from Keating is that he opted out due to injury/work commitments. The unofficial story doing the rounds is that he fell out with Hyland over the style of play e.g. Playing at full forward but the ball never being played in.

As for Dunne, he's overrated based on 2013. He needs good clean ball into him or else someone like Keating to win it and put it on a plate.

Reilly has just been brought into the panel again after not being in it last year.

That's true but he's far too slow and not skilful enough to be playing that role imo. Even when good ball went in to him he wasn't quick enough to react and was robbed of a number of balls he should have won. It was an easy enough day for Neil Collins who looks a good player.

Surprised the Cavan manager didn't leave that lad inside in the dressing room after half time with a feigned injury, he couldn't be sent off then.

In fairness if drawn away to Kildare, Longford or Antrim/Fermanagh they would be as hard if not harder games than Sligo away. Roscommon have been inconsistent all year its hard to predict where or how far they will go this summer.

Would the ref be allowed to go in and send him off there?

I think he was "safe" as long as he was off the field of play.
I don't think you can be red carded in the dugout.

He was in the stand when he was called on to the pitch to be sent off. Nice one from ref - mind you it should have been dealt with before half time.

Why are Cork so terrified of kicking the ball , I don't think Eoin Cadogan has kicked the ball once in his inter county career. They're obsessed with ponderous hand passing going nowhere and surely a few decent foot passes into Colm O'Neill against a 35 year old corner back would be a good idea to try out a few times.

I'd say if Cork get back close to Kerry , Kerry will just turn it up a notch.Kerry look to be only piddling around at the moment.

Kerry's goal was a bit of a defensive disaster for Cork, that's really all that's between the teams atm

    Enjoying this game so far.

    Never a penalty

Sign of a weak referee that penalty decision. Handy for Kerry now.

    Shocking decision.

Does Donaghy have to shoot someone to get the ref's attention. Unbelievable how many calls they get in their favour

Had given them a few handy frees beforehand too.

Ref was conned by O'Donoghue, he throw his arms out as he went down as if he was being pulled. There was also a questionable situation earlier in the game too where he went down holding his face. Very disappointing from the Footballer of the Year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 86 ✭✭MattB11

Should Donaghys foul of been a black card?

Watch the ref make a draw out of this. He won't let Kerry lose in Killarney.

Half of those frees wouldn't be given in Ulster.
    Tougher football up there.

He needed to put that one dead alright.

Kerry will be delighted, another tough match to prepare them for the all ireland series.

Kerry rode their luck for both their goals

Even if he kicked it wide it would have eaten more time but to leave a 45 10 metres short is criminal.

Cork left that behind them, what a score by Fitzgerald at the end, Tomas O Se will wish he kept his mouth shut now.
