2-1 win tonight with Griffiths and McGregor scoring

    0-1 Griffiths

    0-2 McGregor

Thistle get an absolute joke of a penalty in the last minute to get the consolation goal

Not a great performance and as usual the ref was awful. Thought Taylor did well enough to get a few games to try nail down the LB position

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

It was pretty poor from the ref - he seemed to always get in the way of the ball to the blatent peno denied to Celtic in the first half (obvious push on Frimpong) to the laughable decision at the end

The penalty at the end was a joke alright, not sure what the ref saw there.

The one Frimpong was looking for he got right imo, didn't think that was a penalty.

Could have been 4 or 5 nil really, Fox in goal did well for them I thought. Good to see Griffiths scoring and the new bhoy getting a few mins.

It was A definite penalty. He was pushed in the back.

I would expect that to be given against us if it was the other way. Just poor defending to so obviously push an opponent in the back in the penalty box.

Refereeing in Scotland though is ridiculous. The fall out from the last league game was nonsensical. Don't even know where to start with it and it's still drip dripping away.

Spot on but what was worse about the absolute joke of a PK that Thistle did get in the first half Frimpong whom the PK was given against did his man in the box and was clearly pushed in the back but that call was goal kick. An early start mistake for the "honest mistakes" brigade.

    Away to Clyde next round

Good draw but unfortunately from an entertainment quality standpoint that means another game on the road on a crap plastic pitch. We may win the game but I am guessing once again it will prove impossible to play good quality enjoyable to watch football on it.

Keeper fouls Griffiths in the box, no penalty.

Should have been a definite peno although Edouard should have made that irrelevant

No mistake that time, fantastic goal from Eddy after great work by Frimpong. 0-1 to the Hoops.

1-2 now. Celtic with a lot more chances, need to convert a couple of them to get a cushion again.

1-3 Julien. Decent corner from Griffiths at last!

Power made sure he took Frimpong out of the game

Frimpong is stretchered off, looks like his knee took the full force of the follow through from Power

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

Hopefully not too serious, tbf it was a very strong tackle but nothing wrong with it. If it was Brown or Jullien making that challenge we'd be loving it

Had a right cut off Griffiths and was quoting his no of league starts in the last 4 years, and then somehow in his own head up his arse way, tried to take credit for his performance tonight.

Steve Clarke was even looking him at one point with a "are you for real" look.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 10,869 Mod ✭✭✭✭PauloMN

Wouldn't pay much heed to him, talks a pile of ****e most of the time.

Very happy with that game tonight, aside from the Frimpong incident. Could have been a potential banana skin, not a good pitch and I thought the players handled it very well. Griffiths seems to relish the competition and will keep improving, even as the game went on tonight he was getting better.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

Yeah it was a good win aside from Frimpong's injury. The pitch really is awful and not fit for top flight football. Griffiths did well and looks to be developing a good partnership with Édouard. Still a little short of fitness but that will come quickly.

Edit Apparently Lennon said Frimpong is up and walking about so hopefully not too serious

Boyd is a horrible b@stard. Using the “stats” regarding Griff’s number of appearances against him. Many, many of those missed games can be attributed to the man’s mental health issues and Boyd knows this very well.

This should be enough to get the the obnoxious clown banned from Celtic Park.

Boyd is the most biased, disgrace of a pundit on television. Sky’s coverage of Scottish football is abysmal in general.

He is trying to hard to be the Rangers version of Chris Sutton, and hasn't the intelligence to pull it off. He also tried to compare Griffiths throwing his gum shield as the same as Morelos's cut throat gesture.

Sky are a joke employing this blinkered rangers cheerleader. The raging bile he spewed at half time during the new year game and the deluded smugness afterwards. Now we have this diatribe against a man with mental health issues slavered out with a smirk on his face throughout.

Even when he was still playing for kilmarnock his alliegences when working as a pundit were clear to see. Pity Sky have got the right to Scottish football.

Feeling much better after that performance last night. Thought we played very well especially in the second half. Pressed well and looked more like ourselves all over the pitch. Our lack of finishing and quality in the final third was a concern for me and it did rear its head a bit in the first half with Edouard and McGregor both missing great chances but overall we were much better last night.

On an aside once again the ref was at it. How on earth does Alan Power walk off that field at full time last night. Even before his assault on Frimpong which saw him stretchered off he had already gone through the back of Celtic players twice and he walks off with out even a yellow never mind the red his thugery well deserved. Disgraceful from the ref although obviously not unexpected.

I actually didnt think the tackle on Frimpong was that bad, exactly what a manager would want a player to do really and if Brown had of done similar we would be all here singing his praises.

It was certainly not in any sense of the word an ''assault''

IMHO it was a definite yellow card. There was clear intent as he launched in. The fact that he had got away with 2 earlier tackles going right through Celtic players without a yellow gave him free reign.
As for signing Brown's praises I would not be doing that because if he made 3 tackles like Power did last night it is a shoe in that he would have got a red card and we would have had to playa chunk of the game with 10 players.

Well you have gone from assualt to a yellow card, it was a yellow at most.

Fully agree re Brown but that's another days work!

I should have been more clear in my second post it was at the least a yellow card is what I meant. I stand by my original assault description because that is what it was IMHO. Power had both feet off the ground and went in with real aggression and intent. He was able to do that because he had not even been booked yet in the game despite going right through 2 other Celtic players earlier in the game thus giving him free reign for what was an assault on Frimpong. There is absolutely no way he should not have been red carded in that game at the very least for 2 yellows.

In regards to Brown getting a straight red if he made the same tackle there is no question that is what would have happened. We saw Christie red carded away to Livingston for a tackle with less aggression and intent. It is a statement of fact that we have to be able to beat referee bias/incompetence in these games because we all know its one rule for them and another for our players and this situation with Powers assault on Frimpong is a classic example of it.

That pic cracked me up. It looks like Jullien brought his kid onto the field after the game today.

Great result from Hearts there and the advantage is back with Celtic. Old Firm result is history now so hopefully can drive on.

But, but, but.... You just watch when we spend the £75m Barcelona give the famous for Morelos, Timmy. You’ll be sorry then!!!

Poor Naismith must be raging. McCann and Boyd are gutted in the sky studio.

Brilliant debut for Boyce. Fair result today and we’re back in pole position.

Their behavior that day was an absolute joke. The season is far from over. Classless, small time mentality from a club, players, staff and fans who have no experience of success.

Ah in fairness they have won a few lower league Championships in their history ;).

Ismaila Soro Signs on a four and a half year deal. Seemingly could be back up for Brown, which is needed.

Must have something about him for Pistol Pete to agree to four and a half years.
