Perhaps UEFA have a Charter that prevents anybody discussing anything negative about particular clubs, lest feelings be hurt

About 5 years now since I set foot in it. :(

The finished Celtic way really looks great as do the banners on the outside. Really adds to the stadium.

As expected, Aberdeen win tonight to go 5 points ahead

Please tell me that's a wind-up. Surely there's no-one stupid enough working at the club to do that.

I saw the letter but presumed it was one of those #LADBANTER viral things like the letter to student halls about tugging it in the shower (that every single college in the world apparently received on various letter heads...).

Be hilarious if true, but seems a bit convenient that the tweet confirming it has been deleted....

Its coming up that the game is free to view on Setanta sports, just started now.

Will be very interested to see how Simunovic plays. We really need him to do well and hit the ground running to shore things up at the back.

Typical sloppy Celtic defending and it's 1-1. Nice strike tbf

Stupid he'd only just got away with one, sliding in when already on a yellow you think he'd know

    What a joke of a goal 2-2

Overall a decent result but Izzys stupid stupid dive in (even though the Ajax player took a flop) was a real turning point.

You could tell the players were very tired, decision making and composure went out the window.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,932 ✭✭✭ActingDanClark

Little to fear there in return leg metinx, maybe a couple of quality players

Completely changed the game. Stupid stuff from Izzy.

That being said, we done well to get a point at the finish. Molde winning in Turkey makes the group interesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,907 ✭✭✭Badabing

Win our 3 home games and we'll qualify, need a lot of luck but very possible. Molde beating fernabache was a surprise aswell

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,605 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

That was a great result. There was pressure on Ronny Deila to get a performance from his team tonight. He got that, they worked hard and didn't shirk the challenge. They still can't defend set pieces, he really needs to sort that out. Ajax were even worse than us at defending set pieces and were there for the taking tonight, but after recent results you'd definitely take a draw in Amsterdam. Gives us a live chance to get out of the Group. Was delighted to see Commons back and he made a difference, still the best creative player at the club.

    +1, agree with everything.

Would have definitely taken an away draw, based on recent performances I was expecting a comprehensive beating.

Missed most of the game unfortunately, 6pm kick off is a pain. How did Simunovic look tonight? Have we found a player to steady our defence?

Really need to get on top of the stupid tackles, was only saying this to someone earlier. Stuff you might get away with in Scotland lands players yellows and reds in Europe. It's been all too common with Celtic away in Europe to have players sent off, making an already difficult task even more difficult.

Was surprised to see Molde result, throws group wide open already.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,605 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

Simunovic played well on his debut, and a difficult place to make his debut for Celtic. A tall lad with a bit of pace.

The organising at set pieces is the biggest problem still and is a collective thing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 974 ✭✭✭Intifada

Izaguire is an absolute prat of the highest order

Isn't that a bit harsh considering his first yellow was for a single footed, clean tackle that got the ball, and the second there was absolute zero contact whatsoever?

No it is not harsh, you could see he was going to get a 2nd yellow. He got away with one a few minutes before. Delia should have hooked him at that point

So you don't think it's harsh for a player to be sent off for a clean tackle followed by an apparent foul where no contact is made. Fair enough.

Out of interest, what would constitute as harsh to you? A player being sent off without being in the stadium?

Going to ground from the wrong side when on a yellow and being very lucky to escape a yellow moments before is braindead stuff.

Yes in isolation you can make a solid argument he was unlucky. Neither tackle should have been yellow.

In context he was stupid, the Ajax players and crowd were howling at the ref moments before and he decides to fling himself to the ground in a situation where he couldn't reach the ball with his left foot (didn't even manage to reach the Ajax player)

It's not too much to ask the players to assess the risk of their actions on the pitch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 974 ✭✭✭Intifada

Maybe Gordon didn't come out for the ball at the end because he predicted the ref would blow for handball despite him being a goalkeeper ;)

Anyway hopefully we kick on from this. The Media's favourites for the title are playing Hearts on Sunday so there's a good chance they'll drop points and we can get back into the title race :pac:
    Gordon
    Janko Simonovic Blackett Izaguirre
    Brown Bitton
    GMS Rogic Commons
    Griffiths

    hopefully

Disappointing that we didn't get what would have been a memorable win last night but all in all a good performance and a very solid point on the road last night to start the group stages.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

3 nil up at the minute with goals from Rogic, Griffiths & Izzy.

Carlton Cole at the game, was released by West Ham so can sign on a free. Haven't seen too much of him so not sure what he will offer but might give a bit of cover up front as we're short on numbers

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,605 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

2 goals for Izzy, good to see. he fcked up be getting sent off v Ajax, but I think he's been put under pressure unnecessarily by being dropped earlier in the season. He's the best player we have for lb at the club, it was a mistake to drop him and play Mulgrew there v Malmo for example.

Carlton Cole? this years Dion Dublin

Was watchin the Dubs there. That will do Ciftci some good, he should be able to contribute at SPL level anyway.

Superb performance from Celtic there yesterday. Great follow on from the good performance in Amsterdam especially for Izzy after his red card to come back and play so well and even score 2 goals. Such a pity he missed the pk for the hat trick but really it was great to see him play so well. Rogic continues to look better and better the more games he gets under his belt.

Rogic should be starting ahead of Johansen for me. Been great in his games this season while Stefan, as good has he is, has been poor.
    Bailly
    Janko Simonovic Boyata Tierney
    Brown Bitton
    Forrest Rogic Stokes
    Cifcti

Would like to see that on Weds. Maybe McGregor in there for Forrest

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭eire4

Would imagine we will see quite a few changes tommorrow. Unfortunately Scott Allen it does not seem will be fit enough in time to get a start. Pity tomorrow would have been a good one for him to start. Blackett will likely start though so a chance to have another look at him though whether he will start at left back or center back will be interesting.

  • Registered Users Posts: 974 ✭✭✭Intifada

Allan is cup tied mate. Agreed it would be a good game for him to get the 90.

Ahh yes I forgot he had played for Hibernian in the early rounds before we signed him. O well moot point anyway. Will be interesting to see what the lineup looks like tonight.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

Celtic team v R.Rovers: Gordon; Janko, Ambrose, Blackett, Tierney; Brown, Johansen; McGregor, Commons, Mackay-Steven; Ciftci.

    Strong lineup

    Is the game on TV?

  • Registered Users Posts: 974 ✭✭✭Intifada

Why are Commons and Gordon playing? And how the fúck does yet another new signing for us get injured immediately?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

    Finished 2-0

    1-0 Commons

    2-0 Johansen

Pretty much a non event of a game. Celtic always comfortable without ever realy getting going. 2-0 was about right on the night. Good performances from booth young full backs Janko and Tierney. Ambrose had another solid game and Blackett looked much better in central defense then he did at left back against Aberdeen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭eire4

How on earth did that one end up 0-0. Credit them they defended well in the second half but it should have been at least 3 by half time. Forrest's shot that hit the inside of the post would have been an incredible goal. Some bad misses though today especially Griffiths weak header from the edge of the 6 with only Alexander to beat. Still at least we are finally starting to tighten up at the back as we never looked like giving up a goal today really.

  • Registered Users Posts: 974 ✭✭✭Intifada

We never looked like giving a goal away because Hearts had no interest in scoring one. Hard to read too much into the clean sheets in the last 3 games.

Ambrose is probably playing the best he has since his debut. Usually I'm delighted when he's suspended but we could miss him now, especially since Simunovic seems to be another joke human made of glass.
