FFS after getting back into the game we throw it away. Poor again from Gordon & Lustig

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Celtic get a goal back and immediately give another one away - both goals the result of bad defending

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,605 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

We got back in the game and could have easily got back on level terms in this match, Molde are a very average outfit. Shocking, absolutely criminal to concede straight away.

Commons losing the plot, probably unlucky to be taken off but wasn't having a great game either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Commons looked like he most most likely to score again, there were loads of others who could have been hooked

Defensively inept as is the norm in Europe now, but what worries me is how poor we are all over the park. So sloppy in possession, giving the ball away countless times again, really basic errors. I can't understand how this is still happening, it's not being addressed. Too slow when moving up the park, we give teams all the time in the world to organise themselves and we then find it impossible to get in behind opposition players.

Will be a big shock if we somehow progress from this group, but 2 points from 9 in the Europa League is just rubbish. I think we've regressed under Deila and that is a big problem.

We really need to come up with a big performance and show some character tomorrow after Thursdays fiasco. With Aberdeen dropping points again today we also have a chance to increase our lead at the top of the table.

Perfect response to the midweek no show. Granted Dundee United were woeful but we played with a real energy right from the kick off and showed some real quality in the attacking third. Great to see Simunovic play the full 90 minutes at center back and look so composed. We really need him to settle into the team now at this point. A very good performance from young Tierney at left back as well.

According to the radio, Griffiths just scored a fantastic goal making it 1-0 to Celtic. Ref booked him for his celebration

    Edit

Here is the video, what a goal :)

    Scandalous Booking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

More great work by Griffiths and Rogic scores 2-0 into the semi-final now

Agree that the booking was dreadful

Peach of a goal... What was wrong with the celebration? Didn't look bookable to me.

That Rogic goal was fantastic as well

    2-1 now

Cant challenge it either which makes it more infuriating.

    2 lovely finishes. Good win.

Incredible decision to give Griffiths a yellow card, I was expecting to see him taking the piss but it just looked like a normal celebration to me.

The Scotsman 'article' by an obvious Jambo passing herself off as a journalist

'That was nothing compared to the frenzied response to Griffiths’ goal and antagonistic celebrations, running away from the away support to goad the home punters. His own fans forgave him, the Hearts contingent didn’t and, for once, they found an ally in the referee, who booked him as a consequence.'

Is Griffiths near a suspension? May need to rest him at the weekend anyway for the vital game v Molde next Thursday.

The booking was a joke. No call for a booking there at all.

Strange game in many ways last night. Not the usual blood and thunder you so often get in these games. We dominated and they seemed happy to sit in but for all the possession we had we rarely threatened until Rogic came on. He gave us a drive and threat in the final third we lacked until his arrival. But what about Griffiths. That was just a sensational run and finish for the opener and what strength he showed to get to the line before setting up Rogic for the winner. Deserved win although a strangely subdued game really compared to what these trips usually are.

Tierney good competition for Izzy now, he played very well. Good game overall but Aberdeen give too many chances first half.

Fantastic opening header from Griffiths. Really hoping he can continue that form v Molde as we definitely need 3 points in that game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,605 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

Good win. Need to beat Molde now. Ronny Deila came out with some fighting talk the other day, hopefully his team will back it up on Thursday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭eire4

Superb performance this weekend. Really 3-1 does not do that second half in particular justice. Could easily have been a few more and when you consider we had such a tough midweek game on the road on Wednesday night while they didn't play at all the second half looks even more impressive. Puts us in a great spot now 6 points clear in the league. Roll on Thursday night!

Losing 2-1 at HT, lax defending from Celtic again. Only bright point in the half is Tierney

Pish. Never a European force. Sorry, that's it for RD as far as I'm concerned.

Success for Celtic without a challenge in the league is based solely on Europe. Ronny's first season in Europe can be excused, his second cannot.

Don't think I've seen as poor a centre-back pairing play for Celtic in a long time.

And yet lots of our fans seem happy just laughing at Rangers latest woes. Can't wait until they are back to be honest, because we'll be forced to strengthen with some quality when they do, rather than the imposters we currently have.

A hugely disappointing night, the only player who gave any effort was Tierney

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

Just landed after a flight so missed the game, result is a shocker & asks serious questions of Delia.

I like the guy & liked how he had the team playing in the second half of last season but he has ditched the high pressing game that made that work. His signings & selections in defence have been woeful.

I'm not sure he can turn this around now, the league is a walkover at present so he really can't be judged on that.

Can't see the board making any changes at this stage though

Why would he ditch the high pressing game? I think it's just a case the players stopped listening and he's not able to handle the job.

Like you I doubt the board will do anything, but I think it would be better to get a new manager in by January to give him time to prepare the team for the CL qualifiers next summer. I can't see us qualifying for the CL next season with Ronny Deila. He is showing no signs of learning on the job.

Not sure the reason for not sticking with the high pressing but its not happening, very strange after the fuss made when he came in about certain players(Commons) not being fit enough to play that way.

Tough trip to come now Sunday to Dingwall where we have had our issues in the past. No Brown, Biton or Simunovic as well after last night will not make things any easier. We responded well after the first Molde game we will need something similar this weekend to be able to pick up 3 points.

I just don't understand why Deila ditched the high pressing, it was working great.

It's incredibly frustrating, for one reason or another he seems to either bit be able to implement his philosophy or abandoned it. Either way it reflects badly on him as a coach.

I would have been happy enough to be patient on results while he worked on made progress in implementing his style.

I just can't see how RD is going to bring the club forward at this stage,

Personally I have no faith in the club moving forward at all. There is a distinct lack of ambition coming from the board to provide either a management team or a higher standard of player to move forward.
Ah, but sure as long as the balance sheets are ok.

Problem is the balance sheet will start to suffer now as well. Will need to sell another player for 10 million this summer to balance the books but there's no obvious player that we'll get 10 million for. Biton might develop into a 10 million quid player in a year or two if we sell him this summer we probably wouldn't get 10 m for him.

Why arent the media quizzing Deila on the lack of a pressing game? The cornerstone of Deila's tactic's is missing and nobody is pressing him on the issue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Finished 4-1, good display with goals from Rogic, Bitton and 2 from Griffiths

The header from Bitton was a carbon copy of the one Sutton had against Blackburn Rovers in the UEFA cup run in 2003!

Delighted for Rogic and Bitton. They looked like empty shirts for the first 2 years when they arrived and now they are really excelling. Definitely a change in mentality from them because of the difficult time they had because physically and technique wise there isnt much different

Happy with that draw. Something to look foward to in the New Year. It has been a long time since we have won the League Cup in back to back years. Martin O' Neill's treble year in 2001 I think.

Doubt it will be a sell out but tickets for the 3 group games did sell well so I would think a crowd in the mid 40's is likely.
