    For now, yes.
Need to save up for a wheel.
You'll get great value out of it with all the new new racing games due to come out on the PS4.
I'll see you online soon hopefully.

Got it in the post yesterday and cannot wait to get home to play it again.
Long time since I enjoyed the challenge of a game. Cannot keep that escort on the road :o

I can't wait to get this game, my online racing buddies are tearing it up in the Rallycross, they reckon it's amazing altogether.
Gonna try and grab it tomorrow after work, anyone know where it's going cheap?!

Check out my Scottish pal's rig, it's mental.

Is your Scottish pal David Coultard?

He probably hates DC, knowing him.
I picked up a copy in Argos for 56 quid, as soon as the kids are in bed I'm gonna get my rig set up and see for myself what all the fuss is about.
If anyone wants to jump online too my PSN is TitzonToast.

This game is fantastic, there's an odd pulsing going on in the career mode Rallycross events though, it doesn't happen online. The devs are aware of it too apparently.
Other than that it's brilliant, the ffb and the handling are top notch, I'm hooked.

I went ahead and made a Boards league as I couldn't find any from searching, it might liven things up considering there's no multiplayer for Regular rallies. Might be cross platform, I set it up and although I'm on XB1, it looks like it's a codemasters account it uses so PC and PS4 are more than welcome to join. https://www.dirtgame.com/uk/leagues/league/41277/boards-ie
If any more experienced drivers want to take control of the league feel free.

As far as I can see, the leagues are separate per platform.

    I made a PS4 league a while back https://www.dirtgame.com/uk/leagues/league/30534/boards-ie-ps4

Is dirt rally all time trial or is there any racing?

Theres only racing where you can see opponents cars in rally cross.

A lot of epeople have been crying out for "pvp" rally staged where there would be a ghost car, but thats just not reslistic.

I've joined your league there. I'm on PC.

Are the leagues cross platform? If they are, I can disband the ps4 boards league and we can stick to just the one.

I just checked the codies forum and apparently they are not

The game is sensational I have to say. Really dived in to it on the weekend.

Pikes Peak full course in the wet, in Walter Rohrl's Quattro is such a pure driving thrill...All 20Km's of it!

Just sent a request to join the league there.

I'm really loving the Lancia Stratos. That engine sound

Never used online leagues before - How do they work ?

It says you're in. I've set up a simple league event starting at 17:30 today until 5 pm tomorrow, if it shows up in your game then it's at least PC-Xbox Cross platform. I can't check until I get home tonight though. Also I applied to the PS4 league just to see if it works.

So just to divert from the whole leagues thing for a bit: This game is HARD. The last rally game I had played for any noticeable amount of time before this was Colin McRae 04, and that was only back when I was a boy (10 years old in 2004). I got the G920 in January, and only played Forza 6 and Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator with it before this.
So imagine the shock of coming to this, a brutal rally game after lawful driving and circuit racing.
The second video shows my leaderboard position from my first ever weekly event
The first video is from the event that finished yesterday (skip to 23:00 unless you want to see gratuitous swearing and bad driving)

Haha airbiscuit I feel your pain I haven't played it in about six months now due to not Having a decent rig but I was same when I started the only thing ill say is even tho its hard there is something about it that makes you want to improve every little bit each time. It's one of the slowest paced games I played but I love it.

Has anyone tried to see if cross platform leagues work or is it all tied?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,062 ✭✭✭AirBiscuit

So now that I'm home and have tested it out, it looks like leagues are indeed locked to a platform (which is ridiculous considering you still need to go through racenet).
It turns out that whenever I log in it defaults my platform to Steam even though I don't have the game on steam, hence why cherry was able to join my league.
Anyways, I made an Xbox league, don't know if anyone else even plays ln Xbox but hey ho. https://www.dirtgame.com/uk/leagues/league/41740/boards-xbox

Hopefully with this cross platform collaboration between Microsoft and Xbox starting up, we will see an update to Dirt Rally that will have cross platform leagues. In fairness for the rally stages it would be one of the easiest games to implement.

All it needs to do is list times.

This game is definitely the Dark Souls of racing sims :)

I think I need to adjust the pace notes to get them sooner. Feels like I'm on top of a tight turn just as I'm getting word from the co-driver.

Whats the best RWD car to start off with? I dont mind something less powerful to get used to how they handle.

It's been a while since I drove it but I found the Fiat 131 Abarth powerful yet easy enough to drive for a RWD.

If you think Dirt Rally is the dark souls of racing sims, I'm quessing you haven't tried iracing, automobilista or assetto corsa :)

Seriously I think you would find a way to bring asseto corsa into the farming simulator thread ;););)

Wow how dare i mention a top sim in a simracing thread.
    I actually prefer Automobilista.

On topic Dirt Rally is great, delighted I bought into early access and got it cheap.

I'm finding it the other way round!

I find Assetto Corsa grand, but Dirt rally is kicking me in the teeth!

Mind you, I started off with a MK II Escort which isnt the easiest choice but I'm a sucker for RWD cars.

Tomorrow I'm going to start a new championship with the Mini instead, and pace myself.

I definitely cant see how Assetto is easier, when Dirt Rally is a complete upper body work out!
