Yep, nearly did my shoulder in earlier this evening trying to keep the mini from going off the side of a cliff.... one of the most unforgiving games I have ever played, which is what makes it so good!

I'm finding it the other way round!

I find Assetto Corsa grand, but Dirt rally is kicking me in the teeth!

Mind you, I started off with a MK II Escort which isnt the easiest choice but I'm a sucker for RWD cars.

Tomorrow I'm going to start a new championship with the Mini instead, and pace myself.

I definitely cant see how Assetto is easier, when Dirt Rally is a complete upper body work out!

Race in a league and try to go as fast as the opposition and see how hard circuit racing sims are :)

Don't get me wrong DR can be brutal, also depends how hard you need to be pushing.

I find Dirt Rally more punishing for mistakes. AC not so much but at the same time, I also agree that in some AC servers you have a terrible time trying to even reach top 10 finishes.

Each to their own, but tbh you're not really comparing apples to apples here. They're both completely different games, thus different difficulties.

Rallying will always be mire punishing, thsts the nature of the beast.
    I'm talking about physics here.
Automobilista and AC etc have a far more sophisticated physics model to dirt rally.
As codemasters said themselves they wanted a solid believable physics model without being super realistic because of the nature of stages rallying and in the interest of enjoyable game play.

RBR is a classic example of this point, super realistic physics with rallying doesn't quite equate to a fun experience

They have struck a great balance with DR making it a fun experience without being a full on supreme realistic sim

Drive the Rally cross cars in Automobilista on a track them imagine them on tight twisty rally stages, then go back to them in DR to see my point.

Sorry for typos am on phone

At least with circuit racing, when you run wide you can typically re-join the track. Dirt Rally feels like if you go an inch offline, you may as well have fallen off the edge of the earth. Then you're pressing "Y" to re-join the track and you're slapped with a 12 second penalty. I wouldn't mind if you had some hope of re-joining the stage, but you have zero chance to do so in a lot of cases.

I don't enjoy games where you make one mistake and are beaten over the head for it. Hence my Dark Souls comparison from earlier. I guess some people enjoy the satisfaction of having to repeat a stage over and over until you nail it (and have the available free time to do so). I personally play games for enjoyment, and I don't think I'll enjoy Dirt.

Stick with it man, it very rewarding when it all comes together, are you using a wheel? so much better with one.

I personally see Dirt Rally as an all out sim, theres nothing "fun" about it, it feels hardcore.

As good as RBR was for the time, it felt like driving on ice when on tarmac or gravel.

Which made it unrealistically hard imo.

A lot of other people say the same about it too.

I guess I'll have to wait and upgrade my PC to compare the physics in Automobilista's rally cross tracks and compare, but Dirt Rally will always be all out sim for me, there is nothing Arcade-ish about it.

I'm surprised you play it with only 540 degrees of rotation btw given you're a stickler for realism! :D

540 degrees? what gave you that idea?
I play with 900 degrees rotation.

    This did... :D
    Dcully wrote: »
Yes but i found default on my G27 of 900 degrees too high so i brought it back to 540 and it feels amazing now, makes a huge difference, i too stop playing until they added ffb, being honest based on my early testing of 3-4 stages its a lot better ffb than i expected, fair play to codemasters.

Regarding force-feedback, I tried using the highest rated preset in the Steam Workshop and it feels great to me.

Would be interesting to see what other people think of it.
All I can remember is that has a german kinda name.

I'm absolutely addicted to Pikes Peak and Rallycross, the Rallycross especially, it's both frantic and tactical.
If anyone wants to get online for a blast on PS4 send me a FR, Thurles Drunk and myself have had some great racing already. He's dirty though, you have to watch him!

I have the basic Thrustmaster Ferrari F458 wheel. If I'm being honest, I didn't give Dirt enough of a chance. Will try and rectify that this weekend.

Maybe its a good sign that I felt I wasn't getting the pace notes quick enough? Shows that I was going quick at least :)

You can customize how early you get the pace notes from one of the options menus.

Same here. The rally cross is fantastic and savage fun. With Pikes Peak its crazy how quickly you can learn every bump in 20km of road!

Just got back into this last night after getting my new rig setup I forgot how much fun it was. I haven't played it since October but it is much more polished as a game since then, have completed the German elite rally it is where I left off my last save it is a a great rally to. Will have a look at joining the league on here.

I wish I had this game on pc, I saw that you can download car setup files from Steam, that's deadly.
Have any of you guys ever tried them?

Yhh but it depends on your own driving style to be honest what suits one person may not suit someone else so it's always better make your own.

There are loads of posted setups on various forums that you can use as a template and just enter them manually.

I haven't found any, I've searched high and low.
I've never been able to tune properly!
Can you send me a link please?

It's a good guide alright, I'm just lazy though, I've pretty much always relied on tunes that folk have posted online.
I've found some real gems that way in the past. I guess after all these years it's time I really started tuning my own cars. God help me!

Ah you will need more than tunes to keep up with the rest of us in RallyCross! ;)

If there is any specific car you want help with more then another ill download a few screens shots for you thats no problem.

Alot of my own setups start off on either gravel or tarmac and adapt them for each rally so if you find a setup on steam you want to try or want me to find one for you it won't take much effort.

You're a gentleman for offering to do that for me man, thank you.
I'm looking for a tarmac and a gravel setup for the 405 T16 Pikes Peak car if possible please.
There are two highly rated setups on Steam that I'm after, I'll see if I can post a link for them.
    Thanks again.

    EDIT
    Gravel setup

I can't thank you enough for doing this for me man. I know it's a pain in the arse for you to do.
I'm gonna run this tune tonight.

That tune worked a treat after a couple of small tweaks. I got it into 275th place on wet gravel at Pikes Peak tonight with a very scruffy run.
    Sorry for the terrible picture.
Thanks again for getting it for me Jayo.
