So, what you're saying is, Waterford took a knock when these jobs were originally lost...and now, instead of even more jobs going, we actually get 125 of the jobs back...and you don't think that's a boost for the city?

Are you one of these people that becomes so cynical that it actually morphs into stupidity?

150 new jobs = 1050 staff on 80% wages of the original 1100

And Paudie calls this a boost for Waterford, some laugh!

this (above) is just pathetic, this is a great news story. im convinced people would prefer a more miserable story that they can whine about. its more jobs than we have at the moment which is a good thing even if they are on less money, the workers on less money probably saved the entire factory, of course some bright sparks on here think they prob shouldnt compromise.

Why is it when some people here don't jump on the happy clappy wagon they are being called cynical and whingers. Grow up lads, some people have valid points to make, even if they differ to your own.

Of course it is good news for people, more jobs is always good but there is also the benefit to the companies providing these jobs, we've seen companies yield record profits while wages happen to fall..it's worth noting these things too.

This is capitalist behaviour yes, but people are free to voice their opinions without being labelled as cynical. Large corporations are the most cynical of us all.

The wages B&L have paid for the past decade or so have been excellent for the work that's involved.

The current level of pay there is still very good for what the job entails.

This is a boost for the city. Another 150 people in employment. If they're all on €20,000 net, it's an extra €1.5 million or so into the Waterford economy every year over somebody on the Rock & Roll. That's a fair chunk of change for the City.

There's merit on your point although I would not have been so blunt :)

I feel many people in the City are worn out from the constant stream of bad news over the last number of years and the cynical effects will be long lasting.
I think the B&L developments are a good example of give a little to gain a lot.
The jobs there should now be secure for years to come.

What gets me is that people are saying its only 125 jobs. Yea its only that in Bausch. But what about the people that could get work from the actual construction. And the local business that may also benifit from it.

The expansion that's being built is massive in size compared to anything they have built so far .

Also those people that are pointing out the loss of jobs there over the last year. The majority of those were voluntary. There was very few pushed out the door. So they actually wanted to leave. I know some have found work already and others have decided to go back to college. Then some just wanted to look after their children.

As for politicians trying to make themselves look good. They are all going to try and grab hold of any bit of good news to try get votes. Its the way they are.

Competitiveness is critical, the old wages which the staff were on, how did they compare to other companies based in Ireland, if they were above the cuts were needed.

It is good news, I'm sure those 125 people on the social will be happy...

You'd have to be cynical about the way a company like this 'adjusts' its workforce levels and hires and fires (and reduces wage levels); it's hopefully something that doesn't become too prevalent. In saying that, it is good news for Waterford, the workers and the local economy.

There are around 50 people who started recently scheduled to be left go at the end of August, start of September. They'll go on a recall list and might be rehired early next year, ahead of new employees.

Typical Waterford Bull**** in this thread.

Whinge and bitch about lack of jobs. Jobs announcement comes along and still Whinge and bitch about it.

Go get your heads checked lads. You need a good dose of anti-depressants or something.
