Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid to face two transfer window bans

Or it wont take effect for two or three windows allowing the sides ample time to get in who they need for that time. It will probably have the opposite effect on madrid this summer. They'll buy everyone

The ban really affected Barca....Suarez, Rakitic, Mathieu, ter Stegen......

The ban, if it does get applied, will be appealed and both will get 1 window to get all their business done, ala Barca, before a ban is handed out.

If it does come about, neither side will do much selling this summer, not their better players anyway.

I don't think we'll be able to see how the ban truly affected them until January 2016, so far all they've missed out on is the January transfer window. Although yes it's a bit of a farce when they can just hoard players in. If those players were flops, for whatever reason (injuries, dip in form, can't adjust to the league etc.) then they'd be a bit stuck however.

As I said the last time its a curious rule, Newcastle or Celtic can sign a 17 year old from Slovenia who will be exposed to new culture, new climate, new language and a complete new way of life.
But a Spanish team cant sign a Buenos Aries 17 year old even though culture, climate and language will be remarkably similar to his homeland, and dozens of family members may already be resident in the new country.

I thought the Barca case was for hoovering up much younger guys to their academy?

As in 7/8/9/10 year olds, that kind of age range.

I didn't think the players name/ages were released in the Barca case, just that they were underage (<18) and didn't meet any of the three underage exception criteria.

Think Barcelona had a few Koreans, were all about 13,14 as far as I remember

Barca are doing fine because they stockpiled players last summer and Real definitely got wind that this might happen to them. How else to explain how they spent €54m over the winter transfer window on the following:

€31.5m: Danilo (going through this summer, to replace Arbeloa leaving this summer)
€20m: Luis Silva (to replace Khedira leaving this summer)
€3.9m: Marco Asensio (potentially to replace Jese and/or Chicarito leaving this summer)
€2.3m: Martin Odegaard (promising young player)

Real usually don't spend that much during winter, so it seems like they were in a rush. The Danilo deal is especially odd - I remember Marcotti wrote an article speculating why they were in a rush to lock the deal down now, rather than wait till summer.

If the parents of the players are willing to let them go then what business is it of FIFA.

What is the difference in terms of the welfare of a player between moving from a non EU country to Spain than and moving between 2 EU countries.

Seems to me like a load of nonsense to me.If the player wants to move and his parents are happy to allow it then that should be enough.

If you are a parent of a 13/14 year old child who gets a chance to play for Real Madrid's youth team then you would do anything to help them. The problem lies when, like ~90% of the youth team products, Real/Barca/whoever realise that the kid isn't anywhere near good enough to be a professional footballer and cut him loose. Then you have a whole family in a strange country with no support network.

All clubs give the players family jobs and houses to move them into the area, then boom local player signs for them :pac:

Cant really see what UEFA or FIFA can do to stop this and not sure it should be stopped.

I remember seeing a documentary on the Spanish youth structures. Every club is basically required to ensure their kids have every support for alternative careers outside the sport.

As to how stringently that requirement is enforced is anyone's question. There is an incentive for the clubs to do it. For example, Catalonia and Valencia have some very wealthy demographics. By providing failed soccer players with alternatives they're more likely to reward the club's loyalty if they make successful careers elsewhere.

I wonder how long it'll take before a club outside Spain is sanctioned similarly. I've read some shocking reports on lapsed pros in England.

It's not long ago that Barcelona's Summer business was being scoffed at, particularly Mathieu with Zubizarreta sacked

I thought Zubi was sacked for letting Cesc and Sanchez go.
