    Weekending 3/5/15

RTÉ ONE and 2 seeing continued drops first time the top show for adults on RTÉ2 has dropped below 100,000, Revenge pulling in just 97,000. EastEnders continues to drop on RTÉ One with just 228,000 in 20th place for the channel.

TV3 has seen a bounce with the return of BGT. BGT was placed first with 265,000 adults. Both Red Rock's episodes were up from previous weeks with 121,000 on Wednesday and 115,000 on Thursday, helped in part by Islanders, 121,000 and The People's Debate 124,000. First time showing for TSOCS with 70,000 viewers for Tuesday nights edition, also a first for any show airing during that time slot on the channel. Judge Judy only once in the top twenty with 71,000 viewers.

UTV Ireland's top eleven is covered by Coro St and Emmerdale with 187,000 to 361,000. The other 9 shows got between 50,000 and 114,000 viewers.

The RTE Guide stopped publishing the weekly top 20 ratings a year or two ago. I wonder was this because of how embarrassingly low RTE 2s ratings are now ?

Quite possibly, people only tuning in for live sport (and Home and Away to a far lesser extent) now.

TV Now stopped publishing the Top 10 as well. Maybe it costs a lot to get them off Nielson/TAM.

When did they do this? What was their last top ten like, interesting to compare to the Adult ratings from Medialive to the TV Now ratings.

Someone should publish them like Sunday Times, RTÉ 1, 2, TV3, TG4, UTVIreland and top ten digital shows.

They stopped it about 2 months ago. Disappointing as they've had them in there since issue 1. There was a small difference at times, but shows like All star Family Fortunes would jump from 9th in medialive to 2nd or 3rd in tv now ones. I'll dig out the last ratings they had in there tomo.

RTÉ ONE is seeing a drop with TLLS getting 478,000 at the top and The Consumer Show getting 229,000 at number 20. Into summer and Reeling In The Years has been put to repeat with an average of 300,000 viewers. Midweek movie still gets an audience with 258,000 for The Blind Side. With 4 repeats taking up positions on the top 20.

RTÉ2's decline has reversed with Sport Champions League getting 282,000 viewers. Friends getting 47,000 viewers at number 19 with Gotham at 20 getting 46,000 viewers. Really they need Gotham earlier in the year, be interesting to see how Channel 5 does with that show.

TV3 also does well with sports with Champions League coverage getting 205,000 viewers. BGT at the top with 234,000 and BGMT getting 117,000 viewers. VB placed twice with 110,000 and 102,000 viewers. Judge Judy was back with 4 episodes from 58,000 - 75,000 viewers. TSOCS didn't return to the top 20.

UTV Ireland top 11 dedicated to Emmers and Coro Street. Rare Breed and Kevin Dundon's Back to Basic getting on average 100,000 viewers. Everything else dropping below 60,000 viewers, Trevor McDonald unable to keep Doc Martin's audience at 53,000 viewers.

    Soaps averages

    1. Fair City 320,000
    2. Coronation Street 300,000
    3. Emmerdale 200,000
    4. EastEnders 250,000 (2 eps)
    5. Red Rock 90,000
    6. Home and Away 90,000 (3 eps)

    Adults only. 15+

I am shocked that Gotham has been kept on the 9pm slot with such low ratings, In the past RTE 2 has always quickly banished poor rating import shows to an after midnight slot.i

Indo says Pat Kenny had 150,000 viewers, with Claire Byrne getting 368,000 viewers.

Interesting to hear how well Dail on the Dole did.

On a similar lack of info, TG4 used to publish their ratings on their website, but haven't updated the page since mid-February! Most usefully, they also carried channel market shares, which doesn't seem to feature regularly on Medialive.

Think you will get that on the TAM website, you can also view Top progs per station, if I remember correctly.

Went back as far as week ending 25th January for TV3's figures - to compare the ratings in TV Now and Medialive.

    Medialive (Adults 15+):

It is suggesting that 4 - 15 year old figures are the difference.

I'd expect Jack Reacher not to be watch by to many kids (or adults for that mater!) adding 16,000 to the figure.

People's Debate adds 6,000 and Xposé just 13,000.

Under 15 audience of 50,000 for Red Rock??? Under 15 matches their ABC1 figures.

Irish Times says Dail on the Dole had 48,000 viewers for TV3. Interesting how they used 58,000 viewers for Tervor McDonald.

How is big brother doing on tv3.

You'd expect a certain amount of news on this, such was the lead up to the show. I'd say that the audience figures aren't brilliant, hence why we aren't hearing anything about them.

Kind of like TSOCS which had Lucy Kennedy bursting to tell everyone she was moving to prime time, for over 2 weeks before in the media.

That's woeful from UTV after three months on air - they'll probably have excuses about "being ahead of schedule" on some metrics of their languages choosing, but they said on launch day that they wanted 15% share in 12 months, which seems a pipe-dream now. Mind you, looking at the figures, stations seem to be losing more to English channels than cannibalising each other.

The Medialive figures only cover live viewing by age 15+. If you watched a programme on time delay even by just a minute or two, recorded it and watched later or watched it via any other catch up method you would not be included in the Medialive figures. The numbers published in TV Now are the consolidated figures which include all viewing via a tv set up to 7 days after a programme was first broadcast.

Great to see the audience shares.
RTE2 really suffering - a drop of 2%, but it may have been higher last year what with the World Cup happening. They've no such big tournament to help them through this year.
Congrats to both Setanta and TG4 for increasing their share.
TV3's drop is expected, but seeing 3e drop may be concerning as the soaps had no input into 3e's schedule. TV3 still the 2nd most watched channel in Ireland too without the soaps.
Total of UTV has just increased by 3.54% compared to last year. And this is with exclusivity to two major soaps. Bad start for them, and their predictions that had been made before their launch are being hastily changed now.

It is woeful for all TV channels with the exception of TG4, 3e and the +1s.

    2014: TV3 + UTV = 14%
    April 2015: TV3 + TV3+1 + UTV + UTV Ireland = 14.23

All Irish TV viewers are down, in fairness you can say well April didn't have much on offer but these are percentages not viewing figures. Irish channels only having 43% of the audience is not the fault of the TV viewer but the fault of the TV channels.

I know that Medialive only show 15+ but I assume that it also shows figures for programmes Timeshift viewers since the gap between is any greater than a number of years ago.

The Medialive site specifically states that it is live data. I think they may have included VOSDAL (Viewing On Same Day As Live) figures which would have covered same day timeshift in the past, but now it is just 15+ live as this is the data advertisers mainly want as the ads are obviously more likely to be skipped on timeshift. Shows like Coronation Street can be 350k on the live data but pass 500k once all timeshift and under 15s are included. News and current affairs programmes would gain very little on timeshift and have relatively few child viewers so the consolidated figures for them would show little difference from the live data.

Big Brother has underwhelmed for TV3, with two ratings of 85,000 and 75,000 in the top 20 after week one. Pat Kenny notched 129,000 for his first show and the Sunday Game, unsurprisingly secured over a quarter of a million viewers. Clare Byrne did very well with 346,000 - evidently we haven't tired of SSM debates!
