UTV Ireland's March audience is low. On of the things that is stand out for TV3 is their ability right across their monthly top 20 is to maintain above 100,000 viewers for 19 of their main shows. Red Rock clearly made gains during the month. UTV Ireland on the other hand only maintains 9 of their top 20 over 100,000 viewers almost all are shows sandwiched between Emmers and Coro with Ant and Dec the lone exception to the rule. It hard to figure providing post and pre match analysis figures for RTE2 when most daily shows like the soaps and current affairs programmes are averaged over the month.

This week's at the farm programme did alright for RTE ONE but its hard to say how well or compare it to nationwide considering it ran for an hour, was RTE ONE up for 7 - 7:30 and from 7:30 - 8.

RTE2 meantime rebrands Reality Bits as I AM something series of programmes with I Am Irish getting 55,000 viewers.

UTV Ireland's decision to repeat programmes in the 8 pm slots is strange.

TV3's news dropped off in Jan but seems to be back, wonder if this was just a blip?

Also IFTA awards did make TV3's top twenty, but the movie following did???

That doesn't look good at all. I doubt it will be back next year.

It will be interesting if they decide to broadcast the TV Awards show live, considering they though broadcasting a day later would increase the audience, when it had the opposite effect.

    Big Week on the Farm
The show had an average audience of 326,000, up 17 per cent on RTÉ One’s typical average viewership for the slot. The programme achieved an average share of 26 per cent, a 27 per cent increase on the slot average.

That's shocking - RTE drop it, and the audience plummets.

RTÉ still have that core mainstream audience. Something TV3 was never able to recreate. BBC ONE and ITV would be similar in the sence if an awards show moved from BBC ONE or ITV to Channel 4 or even just to BBC 2, the bottom would fallout of the audience.

For TV3 this comes back to the type of programming that surrounds its shows. For example if TV3 had started Red Rock when it had Coro St and Emmers it would have retained more viewers, it may have even held on to viewers. This is also down to TV3 certainty that it is/was a younger station to RTÉ ONE.

With the slide of RTE ONE we see a top 33, though little growth for the other channels.

Dragon's Den returns with 373,000, 100,000 from TLLS. Ray D'arcy continues to get around 320,00 viewers. The other big show being Christy Moore's Journey with 297,000 viewers. Clare Byrne drops to 217,000.

Champions League tops both RTE2's and TV3's top 20, with RTE2 just missing out but left it in with 211,000, just below Claire Byrne. After that RTE2 are back to all shows below 100,000 viewers showing it inablity to retain viewers following big sporting events. A repeat reality bites gets 50,000 viewers with I Am Emmigrant failing to get into the top 20. Vikings had 45,000 viewers.

BTG returned to TV3 with 181,000, Red Rock remains steady on 102,000 viewers. More talent had 81,000 viewers. The Seanad Election special had 80,000 viewers.

UTV's Insight programme had 103,000 viewers, leaving the 8pm programmes to shame. Though the other 5 make up the rest of the top twenty! Billy Connolly's Tracks Across America had 58,000 viewers.

RTE 2s ratings are shocking, they need to forget about trying to be trendy.

TG4's highest-ever rating - 621,000 watching the League final, 739,000 between the two games and Laochra:

Pretty much all of RTE2s and TV3s top 20 are under 100,000. Red Rock is plateauing nicely above 100,000. While Reality 1st Dates and BGT top the charts.

Did UTV Ireland buy Gangland Ireland from TV3?

No sign of TSOCS or Xpose. SSE Airtricity League Live getting 55,000 viewers.

I expected a lot more for First Dates. It may grow however.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

The problem with 1st dates is that it is another factual entertainment show from RTE2, no matter how good such a show is the lack of variety of home produced shows on RT 2 is killing the channel.

Still don't know if this is for each episode for each month! If it is the figures aren't that significant e.g if EastEnders has 30,000 extra per epsiode, a similar result for a repeat showing of the same show. Will find out the audience for it on +1.
RTÉ Player viewing peaks between 9pm and 11pm each day
Soaps are the most popular programmes on RTÉ Player – with Eastenders, Home and Away, Fair City and Neighbours among the top streamed programmes so far this year
The top 10 streamed programme to date this year (Jan – March 2016) are:
    Eastenders (1.4 million streams)
Home & Away (1.3 million streams)
    Fair City (1.2 million streams)
    Latest Irish News (458,343 streams)
    Neighbours (390,473 streams)
    Nine News (333,802 streams)
    RBS 6 Nations (330,519 streams)
    Rebellion (328,875 streams)
The Late Late Show (326,493 streams)
    Operation Transformation (303,762 streams)

4.The top 10 streamed online exclusive content to date this year (Jan - March 2016) are:

The Late Late Show Extras (292,360 streams)
    Fair City Extras (103,827 streams
The Ray D’Arcy Show Extras (88,821 streams)
RBS 6 Nations Extras (53,082 streams)
    Operation Transformation Extras (48,173 streams)
    Food Bites (28,798 streams)
Every County Has a Story (25,480 streams)
Home and Away Extras (25,186 streams)
Bridget & Eamon Extras (24,647 streams)
    Rebellion Extras (24,549 streams)

Also extras are about as exclusive as well normal broadcast programming! And none of the RTE2 programmes are getting into either top 10, and the RTE2 soaps cann't be consider RTE2 shows as they are repeats from RTE ONE.

Could be more to do with viewers who've recorded the show, and watched later in the night or week.

    Small piece here: http://www.irishtimes.com/business/media-and-marketing/rt%C3%A9-looking-at-iptv-channels-1.2619161
Only 46 per cent of the 165,000 people who watched the recent series of Homeland on RTÉ2 watched it live as it went out, he said, with the other 54 per cent watching the programme over the course of the week using their personal video recorder or the RTÉ Player.

So it's hard to determine what the figures include anymore.

IMO more down to RTE2s schedule than anything else.

No sign of Big Brother starting yet on Channel 5 & TV3. It started this time last year. Looks like the series will be a lot closer to the Celebrity version.

TV3 must be waiting anxiously for it to start. Seems like an awful lot of filler over the next week. Re-repeating Prison Familes, Gypsy Weddings, Donal McIntyre Investigates, Long Lost Family, Doctor In The House, Adoption Stories, Neville's Doorstep Challenge, The Holiday Show are all on primetime.

I know most channels down tools over the summer, but their schedule is awful at the moment. They're lucky to have the Euro's coming up.

Seems that all Irish channels are repeating a lot of their shows in Prime Time. This is why they are loosing so many viewers. Again not just to OnDemand.
