No sign of Big Brother starting yet on Channel 5 & TV3. It started this time last year. Looks like the series will be a lot closer to the Celebrity version.

They are happy to take a hit in May. Big Brother returns in June with Euros. This seem to be their strategy. no word about their plan for new shows.

Interesting to see RTÉ put GAA on ONE due to the Olympics. It won't be a good year for 2.

RTE2's Champions League coverage took most of UTV and TV3s normal audience. With Palidum getting just 55,000 viewer on UTV and TV3's Red Rock down to 76,000 viewers. Red Rock on Thursday Night was below 62,000 viewers, which unfortunately brings Red Rock back down, after the initial months of the year stagnating at 100,000 viewers. Though TV3 can be happy with 100,000 viewers for Doctor in the House.

Wouldn't be usual to re-schedule along other soap lines. I know Fair City has at times rescheduled because of Coro St.

phenomenal drop in audience for RTE ONE we should start a repeat watch for each of the channels.

RTE2 1st dates get 200,000 adults with the help of Eurovision.

    Nothing more to say really.

TV is dying slowly but surely

Irish TV is dying slowly but surely. Remember this is live broadcast audience only the top 30 and only Irish Broadcasters. And only accounting for 40% of the audience (ex TG4/Setanta/3e and the +1s)

Pointed out RTE's own stats on the RTE player see them only gaining 30,000 viewers for soaps, this would be similar to a +1 channel or a repeat.

TV will slowly die but Irish TV channels have stopped trying.

Awful figure for the Eurovision final for RTE. Normally if/when Ireland are in the final - it's in the Top 10 or 20 shows of the year.

Love to know did many watch it on the BBC in comparison.

While its the first time in many years RTE One will be used as a matter of course for sports (aside from horse racing on weekdays occasionally), it does make sense give both the Euros and the Olympics.

But surely, RTE 2 must show kids programmes by ministerial order, so RTE 1 becomes the default for horse racing and any day time sports like Euro footie.

If RTE had the freedom to choose, they could have a special Euro channel just for the Euros, and an Olympic channel for the games (in addition to RTE 1 and RTE 2). They could use the RTE 1+1 channel.

Not the major change has to be for more than 90days.

I am not sure where Elmo's ninety days comes from, but be that as it may, it wasn't a problem before, though neither of the last two tournaments had early afternoon games, and wouldn't have been a problem at all before the 2009 Act.

Not more than 30days (90 was an over exaggeration) , I found this out by asking why RTÉ do not need ministerial permission for changes in schedule during summer months for RTÉjr, more than 30 days anyway the reply came back with

Broadcasting Act 2009, Section 103, Part 10, The requirements of subsection (2) shall not apply to the establishment by a corporation of a television or sound broadcasting channel for a period of not more than 30 days (whether consecutive days or otherwise) in any period of 12 months.

Now that I read it TRTÉ during summer months, Christmas and Mid terms falls into this.

In that case RTE should take RTE Jr off 2 at random times of the year for 30 days and test new stands of programs.

In that case RTE should take RTE Jr off 2 at random times of the year for 30 days and test new stands of programs.

That breaks continuity. To build an audience, there must be reliable programmes on that people will watch at more or less the same time every time.

TG4 doing well from the NFL final and the hurling replay, while RTE Two is really tanking - the philosophy seems to be "shovel in whatever rubbish wouldn't fit in with the main channel", rather than build an identity that viewers will latch on to.

And with a little imagination both TV3 and UTV could grow their audience. No real change for either from this time last year. Clearly they have a strong core audience.

How to depress RTE2 audiences put GAA on RTE ONE, helping to steady the ship during the summer months on the main channel.

You'd think with BGT Red Rock would see increase but its down at 80,000 again.

FA Cup had 187,000 viewers on TV3.

Ireland's Craziest TV Moments had 84,000 viewers V Coronation Street's 184,000 viewers. (also 13 episodes of Emmerdale and Coronation Street!).

BTW Eurovision on BBC1 in UK had 7.3million viewers V BGT's 8.2m on ITV.

Interesting to see how BGT does up against Champions League Final on RTE2 next week.

I suppose with the Euros and the Olympics, RTE 2's figures will be back up.

Will be interesting to see the viewing figures for the Champions League alright, being an all Spanish final, figures will suffer a little with no English team involved.

Olymipics doesn't have the same effect as other sports. I can't see TV3 wanting it. While RTE have sold 22 Euro games to TV3 plus the final, unlikely to see it peek above 10% IMO.

It's rematch of the 2014 final. How did that preform on RTE, anyone?

RTE 2 have held the 3 ROI group games (should get good views), also some games from Wales, NI and England.

The figures should be higher this year as the game is not FTA anymore on the UK stations. RTE 2 will be the only FTA option.

I wonder will it be as high as the TV3 Europa league final involving Liverpool.

Slightly going of topic, in the UK ITV lost the FTA rights for Champions league to BT Showcase, I wonder what the FTA viewing figures are for Champions league this year compared to ITV last year.
