A lot of people actually watched Eurovision on BBC1 to listen to Graham Norton..

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,894 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

Ouch - Eurovision final fifth on the RTE One charts, with 273k, literally the same as the Madrid derby on Tuesday, and even Ireland's semi only recorded the same figure. Very strong debut for Redwater, on 413k, but given the mauling it seems to have got, will that hold up?

assuming the ~250K who watch Eastenders watched it, who are the other 160K who don't watch Eastenders but decided to watch Redwater (which from the trailers looked beyond awful).

You have to also remember that EastEnders airs on BBC ONE and RTÉ ONE got Redwater first. And also the novelty factor, I can see it falling in audience share as the weeks go on.

I watched it mainly because it was shot in Dunmore East in Waterford, so I was more interested in how the village looked and if I could spot anyone in the background. Don't think I'll be watching it next week though as the storyline ain't great.

The ratings seriously dipping low for all broadcasters. God knows what it will be like in June and July, especially with no big soccer tournament. RTE2 lucky to have so many good GAA matches.

Next week sees the BGT Live Semis. TV3 should get good figures for them along with a stripped Corrie at 9pm (M-Fri) and Red Rock at 10pm (M-Wed)

Saw a promotion for Love Island starting on 3e over the weekend too. No air date announced. The Voice Kids coming to TV3 soon too.

Everything outside of sport remains below 100,000 viewers on RTÉ2 with the return of GAA Championship to the channel. Tipp V Cork had 329,000, Mayo V Sligo had 244,000, Monaghan v Fermanagh had 114,000 for live play. Cool Runnings with the top programme with 98,000 viewers, Home and Away ranged from 50 to 70 thousand viewers. With the movie Taking of Pelham 123 getting 49,000 viewers.

TV3 was a mixed bag. Coro St had a range of 238,000 to 277,000 viewers with Mondays Xpose getting 112,000. Red Rock was down to 122,000 viewers. 18, 19 and 20 postions all dropping below 100,000 viewers.

It will be interesting to see if RTÉ2 and TV3 can both see increases in audiences for May considering 2 weekends of GAA coverage and the start of BGT finals next week.

I wonder if that will move slowly to 3e like American Idol and America's Got Talent. Particularly as the main The Voice UK failed to bring in strong audiences. Wonder if they have the rights to the new ABC version of American Idol.

Do RTE have any plans of addressing the major decline of RTE 2 ?

Europa League final should also get a decent audience for TV3, but the FA Cup final seems less likely to do so.

RTE2 is back with sport but everything outside of sport ranges from 44,000 to 82,000 viewers not much better than figures we see for 3e and be3.

BGT talent reached about 200,000 this Saturday, finals begin this week a good sign. Red Rock has just 136,000 viewers up from previous weeks but we probably won't see it in the top 20 next due to BGT.

Tonight with VB doing well this week with 100,000 viewers. Xpose edition between Emmers had 99,000 viewers.

I don't know how Xposé is still doing relatively well. That show is just so outdated by now. I give it until the end of August, after that I think it will either be cancelled or rebranded. Magazine axed, popular presenters left, competitions dropped, down to three presenters, split between two stations... It's lucky to be on air.

They have sandwiched it between the 2 soaps. Unfortunately for TV3 Coro st has seen a drop and I doubt they see that drop due to xpose which has seen increases.

Meantime no move by on 6pm show which I doubt has better figures that the 7pm show

If you are wondering RTE have announced an Irish version of that popular RTÉ2 programme Say Yes To The Dress.

How many TV series have RTÉ produced for weddings? Too many!

Few changes coming up over the weekend. The final of BGT has been moved to Saturday evening due to the Machester Concert being shown on BBC on Sunday. That means the Soap Awards, which were going to be broadcast for the first time live on Saturday, will now be shown on Tuesday night on ITV.

This affects TV3's schedule slightly. Plus the BGT final is up against the CL final on RTE2 which may affect ratings.

260,000 for Manchester concert on RTÉ2

TV3 group beat RTÉ on 2 days in May. No details of weather they mean RTÉ One or all RTÉ TV.

If they mean all RTÉ TV it means that TV3 got to maybe 18% with RTÉ at 17% can see them doing better than that but it's bad news when all Irish TV channels can't reach over 40%.

Apparently, Clare v Limerick was watched by 9,000 on Sky on Sunday - even Irish TV must have seen bigger audiences for programmes!

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

According to IFTN TV3 had in total 17% in May, with 3e at 2.8 and be3 at 2.5.

It beat RTÉs total on 10 days not 2. With May 29 to July 4 hitting above 20%.

That is ridiculous. How the GAA can be happy with this is beyond me.
And wonder why Sky even bother with it, if it's pulling in such low numbers.

5% increase from last year when you include UTV Ireland.

    http://iftn.ie/news/?act1=record&only=1&aid=73&rid=4290733&tpl=archnews&force=1

I am surprised that both 3e and be3 are staying up at 5%, I don't expect this to change. Save for I'm A Celebrity.

You have to remember that Sky is a Subscription service, its not all that interested in audience figures. As long as Sky have good subscription numbers for Sky Sports they will be happy. However it's not good for many sports to behind the paywall as audience numbers will effect the support for the sport. It will be interesting to see what the audience was like in Britain.

Also as soon as Sky either regain a massive sports delay from BT it will stop being interested in GAA, and if Sky feel that GAA is having no effect on Irish subscribers to Sky Sports it will also drop GAA. Clearly the later is not the case.
