I wouldn't call those figures abysmal, reaching 450k for the final. Like most ppl, once Ireland went out - it lost a lot of people's interest. But they had 3 matches after that happened with strong ratings. Ratings of which TV3 prob won't get for a long time again.

No certainly not abysmal but shows that RWC is still a show piece event. IMO TV3 would have liked Ireland in the 3rd place play off, as it would have lead to more interest in the final.

According to the Irish Time TV3 saw a 14% share increase YoY though no share given. I am thinking they maintained 11% as September or could it be higher. I was being pessimistic putting it at just 9% or just failing to get into double digits.

Even though Irish TV had a big event in October and one that was getting bigger altogether Irish TV channels saw a slight drop from September even though both RTÉ ONE and TV3 grew significantly.

I had suggested earlier that TV3 would have 15% of the audience for Sept an Oct. With the low number of games during the week in Oct I thought they'd only get 11% as Sept but 13% is significant, but how much will they lose in November?

    Thanks Elmo.

TG4's 2015 yearly rating will be down nearly a quarter from last year.

RTE2's shares go down after the GAA finals have ended. The Irish soccer matches have helped them a small bit over the last month.

TV3 will drop down to 7% again this month. Downton and X Factor are doing ok, but not reaching the heights of years ago. They have a tough 3 weeks ahead with I'm A Celeb starting on Sunday on UTVi.

UTV got a small boost in terms of the rugby, but not as much as what people expected - when they presumed loads of people would turn off TV3 in favour of UTV's output for the Rugby World Cup.

UTV Ireland should benefit highly from IACGMOOH. 3e had done well the last 2 years with it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

I think it's a mistake of UTV Ireland to sandwich Ireland live between IACGMOH and IACGMOH Now! They should move Ireland live to 8 for the month.

I thought downton was doing slightly better this year.

Yes one finds downton utterally entralling and one has no doubt that it's plots and scripts are not over hyped, underdeveloped and filled with outstanding cliche !

It's like amateur hour. An embarrassment of a show if anyone from outside of the country were to tune in.

RTE One continues in the first week of November with Ray D'Arcy at 384,000 viewers, this compares to TLLS with 497,000 viewers and TGNS 76,000 viewers on UTV Ireland (BBC 1 airing a few days before).

Winning streak has 334,000 viewers compared to the X-Factor on TV3 with 190,000 for results show.

Stetsons And Stilettos has 329,000 viewers compared to Daniel on UTV Ireland with 213,000 viewers.

Red Rock on Wednesday night had 117,000 viewers but Thursday night did not get into the top 20, this compares to Home and Aways 98,000 viewers (you'd think TV3 would be interest in the Australian soaps).

Constucted Factual The Shelbourne had 306,000 viewers Vrs Dole Life on RTE2 with 115,000 viewers.

Downton Abbey remains with 130,000 viewers compared to Doc Martin at 137,000 viewers.

The People's Debate had 85,000 viewers compared to Claire Byrne at 287,000 viewers.

Striped schedule of TBBT does well for RTE2 at 7pm getting 65,000 viewers or so this compares to 200,000 + viewers for Emmerdale at the same time, while TSOCS appears once with 73,000 viewers.

Xpose has 79,000 viewers for a Thursday edition, while The Pulse (not sure if it should be mentioned) has 139,000 viewers.

Champions league on RTE2 had 164,000 viewers V TV3's 166,000 viewers with highlights getting 100,000 viewers. FAI Cup Finals had 123,000 viewers with 62,000 viewers for highlights.

Just took a look at the ratings there, and can see Red Rock's Thursday edition got 82,000.

I think the Aussie soaps were brought up a bit before on here when TV3 knew they'd lose the soaps. But there must be some sort of golden handshake between RTE2 and Seven Network. But ya never know. If TV3 offered them enough money, anything could be done.

What does "striped schedule" mean? Highlighting that RTE Two shows TBBT 24 hours before E4?

That it's on Mon-Fri at the same time. Odd that they have a new episode on one of the nights, and then older episodes on other nights.

I don't think anybody thought the BBC would lose Neighbours. As the Million Dollar Man used to say, "everybody's got a price"

Wow well done tv3. That must be their best set of figures ever.

The only problem they have is that all of their top shows are RWC. Did they retain any viewers. November with be the real test as to weather or not TV3 have really improved its audience. The same can be said for UTV Ireland, if TV3 is down at 7% and UTV Ireland is still at 6% then both are finding in difficult to increase their audience share.

Its still very impressive. They probably wont hold onto market share are they failed to compliment the rugby with quality programmes around them. Red rock was all over the place in fact i think it was even broadcast on 3e on one occasion.

They should have placed one or 2 episodes of Red Rock on Sat or Sunday. I think after the final on the Saturday, there must have 2 hours of after match talk. It would have ideal to shorten that down and place a big episode of Red Rock in there, especially with the audience that was already there.

So UTV has I'm a Celeb and it should bring up audiences, technical glitches permitting. IMO big mistake not to simulcast I'm a Celeb ... NOW! as 3e had done in previous years.

The first episode had 241,000 viewers this compares to TV3's X-Factor Results show with 212,000, a boost for TV3 with that show.

The Joy had 160,000 viewers (Adults ???) this compares to The Gun Show on RTE2 with 64,000, the worst rated so far for Reality Bites, while BBC3 docs on 2 did a little better.

Sport with RoI qualifier getting 582,000 viewers topping the chart for RTE2.

Graham Norton held on to the disappointed I'm a Celeb audience getting 101,000 viewers, interesting to see if they hang around for Ireland Live at 10?

Red Rock is a strange one, you'd think its audience would be there as last week waiting for Dontown but Wednesday night had 95,000 viewers with Thursday night getting 114,000 (Dontown's audience).

The Great Irish Bake Off against I'm A Celeb drop to 93,000 viewers.

While TV3 milk a dead horse with Toy Show Auditions, will be interesting to see if it holds its audience from last year, its first showing and repeat getting into the top 20!

Ray D'Arcy isn't getting any more viewers still around the 300,000 mark.

And Prime Time's special on the Paris attacks had 453,000 viewers.

Good decision by RTE to broadcast that Prime Time special.

RTE must be over the moon this morning with Ireland's qualification for the Euros next year. With Northern Ireland (and Wales and England) also in the tournament, RTE can expect large audiences for a couple of weeks next June.

Bizarrely unlike Rugby the Soccer tournaments always give high numbers even when Ireland doesn't qualify.

I think it can be explained by the general lack of quality among international teams in rugby. Canada vesus Romania in rugby doesn't exactly excite the neutral viewer. Unlike in the Euros and World Cup, where the standard is much higher and more exciting for the viewers.

Only 2 episodes of Eastenders in RTE's Top 20.
I think they should move it to RTE2 - giving that channel a boost. RTE1 can easily put anything else in those slots and get the same or prob a better audience.
