    Hi all,

Am looking for advice / experiance on which brand of BDU's /gear in Atacs-fg are the least susceptible to fading.

I have had a set of " propper " make for not even 6 months and they have faded a disgraceful amount and now look almost gray.

Before all the comments on how to wash your gear come in this gear was washed form day one inside out , on a "delicate" program ,no detergent , at 20c and dried out of the sun. ( I learned form my set of gear, which after even hot washes still retains more color than the fg's)

    Thanks in advance

    Ciaran

Hmmmm very unusual for Proper gear, maybe you got a lemon?
You can buy Dylon kits with a "dye stay" powder in them, I used this before on Pencott Green zone gear and never had a problem.
Having said that - I hand washing my gear with lukekewarm water.... It's time consuming but works, maybe the gear isn't designed fully with machines in mind.

    Hi LeeHarvey,

    Thanks for the comments.
They may be completely different material from the Pencott or as you say a lemon.
They also bobbled loads and the UBACS considering its designed for cooling was roasting.
Funny you should mention the dylon , I had given up on them so I said I'll make myself some night game kit so dyed them navy. Actually came out gray only the cotton section took on the navy. Should still work.

Just got a set of Claw gear delivered today , about 3 time the price but from first impressions quality is very good and material is genuine A-tacs.
will field test and up date

It's not a one off lemon it's common with the propper brand atacs .
The bobbles are annoying but there easily sorted .
with most modern camo gear I'd strictly cold hand wash and avoid anything( detegents) with optical brighters.

...which would be almost all of the common detergents on the market.

Some of them will say "optical brighteners" in the list of ingredients, but not many. Usually all you have on the list is the surfactants. Unlike cosmetics, all of the ingredients do not have to be listed on cleaning products.

None of the Ecover brand cleaners contain brighteners, as a matter of company policy.

Well then the most likely explanation is that the fabric manufacturer (Propper only make the garments) either used the wrong dyes or didn't fix them properly. Even A-TACS - which to me looks like somebody just rolled in a dust bath - shouldn't fade that quickly.

Printing camo on fabric is a specialised skill. I'm surprised a reputable supplier would get it badly wrong. Not much you can do about it at this point though :(

Ya , not really writing to complain nothing I can do about it now. Its more so anyone looking to get gear and is considering "Propper A-atacs" gets a heads up. I certainly wish I'd seen a genuine review before I bought them. I think it even said something like vat-dyed , Fade-resistant in their description

It was the same with there woodland marpat I had a set early on when it came out and it suffered fading.
Not as bad as the flecktarn. Co.uk marpat which literally went white in parts as they printed or dyed it on to a white blend material
