To avoid being silenced by not being able to fight the legal proceedings financially ?

Ok im not defending him, but surely if we believe that there is untruths being being spoken about either ourselves or our businesses we all regardless of who we are we have a right to protect our good names.

    No one would say otherwise.

Take this totally hypothetical situation, say in another county with other people involved having the money to Keep stuff tied up in court even if it's correct you could keep it tied up in court till the person with little money runs out.

Not say that is the case here at all it could very well be slander :pac:

But how many appeal process can it go through? surely if the individual defending there name won in the first instance what would the grounds for appeal be to drag the case out?

It's not like anyone has taken out 80 cases to court here over the same issue for example. One is under the wrong impression.

Why don't you lead the charge?

Tried that loads of times over the years, now I'm working on countering Dennis influence in media down my way, I'll be out on the street the second the country grow a pair though, if not I'll be patiently waiting and continue doing what I'm doing

There have been reason after reason thrown at Us the last few years to rise up but we've only managed to get annoyed for a short time over the water, there should be huge protests across the country this weekend, but I can hear the sheep bleating on about a bank holiday baaaaaaa

So none of the "loads" of times you tried to muster popular support resulted in any sort of success and now your strategy is to be a keyboard rebel on forums. I'd say the "elite" are bricking themselves :o

You carry on with your binary revolution whilst out in the real world real people are really achieving things ;)

The problem is the " Ah sure it doesn't really affect me " crowd which there are many in this country. The ones who always vote FF or FG who seem to think its acceptable that TDs can make fortunes from backhanders while taxing the people more & more

Nope the prob is the opposition. Take your pick: terrorist/pedos or knacker crusaders?

FF FG fiscal conservatism keeps the country in the game, which is why they get voted in despite corruption.

With the latest Denis O Brien story I don't understand how people keep making excuses for FF & FG. They cost the taxpayers millions with their corruption.

Sadly, socialism would cost us more and fail in the process.

    Always liked Ron Paul
Just.....no. The failings of the current system aren't an excuse to embrace stupidity.

Sadly, socialism would cost us more and fail in the process

This was written by another poster in a different thread but puts into context how much its cost the taxpayer

So at the exact same time as the government are telling us to tighten our belts, closing Garda stations, closing Roscommon A&E, cutting Special Needs Assistants from schools, while all that is going on in public in private DOB is securing for himself, and at the expense of the Irish taxpayer, tracker rates on his already existing loans, loans that he had willfully signed a loan agreement for an interest rate of 7.5%.

Just to put this into context- lets assume the €500m loan was of 10 years in duration. I did a quick calculation of what each loan would cost when compound interest is included and with a repayment term of 120 months (10 years)

10 year loan of €500m @ 1.5% interest -total repayments €538m; cost of loan €38m
10 year loan of €500m @ 7.5% interest -total repayments €712m; cost of loan €212m

Using the above assumption of a 10 year loan this would mean that an Irish taxpayer owned bank gave DOB a direct subsidy on his loans of €174m, at the exact same time as our government is taxing the sh1te out of its citizens with USC, Household Charge, Property taxes, water charges, 23% VAT, etc, etc.

Better a good bit of honest corruption than allowing the looney lefties back into power who raise taxes, line the pockets of the unions, increase the size of the public service and drive down the quality of services provided by the public service.
