I was very lucky to have the advice of a caring father who advised me to be very careful around bouncers in particular and Security, Police etc in general.

In his youth my father had occasion to do door duty on dances back in the early 50's and he was shocked and dismayed by the attitude of many of the doorkeepers on duty with him. There were many times he had to arrange for potential trouble makers and hot headed people to be escorted off the premises and kept safe from other more hot headed doormen looking for the slightest excuse to beat up random strangers or people they hated for entertainment and diversion.

He has also found that security and law enforcement jobs can attract the people who were bullies at school, people with strong personalities who want to live other peoples lives for them and interfere all the time. He has found that the more senior people often have to keep the juniors in line and reasonable etc.

It has been very rare to non-existent that I have had any trouble with bouncers or doormen etc because of the solid advice I got from my father all those years ago.

he could have attacked the bouncer or another person in the pub.

Could have been dealing drugs, threatened.
which wouldn't give them the right to beat him to a pulp anyway

The guards could check out the cctv
CCTV can be useless, unless it's being used to prove the bouncers innocence.

    you serious?
Most people who tend to do these stupid things (in nightclubs) don't remember it next day. The few who do usually report it to the Gardai, but even then it's usually a he-says she-said scenario.

Write down everything that you remember. Now.

Type it up. Take it to the Garda.

    Why write then type it?.

If AGS need you as a witnessed you'll be asked to attend the station to provide a witness statement, which is done under caution anyway.

Its enough to write things down so your memory of the events is accurate as you remember it. But the interviewing member (Guard) will ask you to provide a statement again which he/she will write down from your words.

OP if you're upset enough go the AGS. If the guy who was beaten reported the incident then AGS may be looking for witnesses.

I'm all for an eye for an eye - if a bouncer, or anyone, hit me for no reason I'd make a point to get them back. But one does not simply shoot a few bouncers to make an example.
They used to in the Blue Banana in Clondalkin circa mid 90's :D

I used to manage a night club a few years back and let me tell you, there is nothing worse than an aggressive doorman. They will cause you more headaches than a hundred drunks. I had one guy work for me who looked like he'd been born in mountjoy prison and remember the first night he had to resolve an issue. Two guys were about to go boxing so I gave my doorman a call to assist me stopping it, he told me to relax that was his job!! So I watched as he went over stood between them had a chat and then I watched them finish their drinks and leave without incident. He worked with me for five years and despite numerous incidents I never saw him put his hand on anybody apart from an arm around the shoulder when speaking with them. He would say the guys who resort to hitting customers were just paid gorillas / thugs. Their job is to escort customers out of the premises not beat them through the doors. Go to the guards OP nobody deserves to be treated that way!

Are you sure you saw the whole thing,

were you beside the fella all night just saying as you would want to know the whole story.

he could have attacked the bouncer or another person in the pub.

Could have been dealing drugs, threatened.

I would hazard a guess he was up to something as a bouncer wouldn't smash someone up for no reason.

To answer your question there is no way to find out who he was unless you report to the cops but they won't tell you.
    Honestly best stay clear.

Not a single one of the above would justify doing someone a grievous injury.
