Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

For anyone not familer with Tom Allen. Allen is a adventure cyclist and blogger. Who has travelled to over 40 countries, spending as little cash as possible along the way.

Allen blogged some time ago about putting a expedition bike togerther for under £25

A lot of the resources Allen used to put his bike together are not active in Ireland and have no Irish equililant. So anyone ever put together a touring bike for £25 or have any thoughts on how to go about doing it in Ireland?

    Here is Allens blogpost

I noticed the recycling centre in Ballyogan had a pile of bikes in one corner last time I was there - no idea if any of them could be salvaged though.

It strikes me as being something much easier to do in the UK the Ireland.

Www.freetradeireland.ie would be a start, there is/was a similar site for Dublin.

There's also a free section on adverts.ie and there are occasional auctions by the Garda.

Mid 90's myself and the GF bought 4 bikes at a council auction near Munich and made up two bikes out of them, though we ended up buying new tyres for them. Paid about DM 120 or €60 IIRC. One left over frame was bad, the other we left on the street and it was gone the next day. The rest went to the recycling. Used the bikes to tour around for a year.
