I played a bit at the local pitch and putt as a kid and got a lesson or two, was fun
Nevermind that comment, you're great and doing great for yourself

Love watching golf and played pitch and putt for the first time on holidays this "summer". Such good craic. Thinking of picking up a few second hand clubs and tipping away at it!

Yeah that sounds like a swipe from your mom but I'd roll my eyes and forget about it. I feel a bit sorry for people who make comments like that.

Looks like my little sister (and the baby of the family) is moving to Galway! Delighted that she's happy, but oh my god it seems so far away! No coming home every weekend in first year liked brother and I did.

Got about 3/4 hours of broken sleep, had a headache which verged onto a migraine type one - found some tablets and took them, but awake since 4.30 and my head is rubbish. Going to be a fun day trying to teach students algebra - though if I can get into work and print off tomorrow's easier stuff, might do that with them instead.

Summer school, so have selected year 11 students in for four days. I should have 9, 7 showed up. Going to have to try and get a doctor's appointment if these headaches keep coming, third or fourth in the last week, putting it down to the funny weather and will see how it goes

Just got a lovely snotty email from a colleague who thinks she's my superior (she's not, we work in two completely different departments). Don't understand why people need to go on their little power trips. Urge to strangle her is getting stronger!!

I am wrecked. I have been working 13-18 hours a day for the past few weeks, this morning I was, literally, almost crying because I got stood up for a meeting. Total over reaction due to exhaustion. :o:(

I can't cope with this little sleep. Tomorrow is the first day in a long time I can sleep in... I just need to get through today.

I've a new years resolution this year to be more outgoing, and more sociable, I'm an awful introvert, so I'll keep this in mind and suggest it in ladys lounge private before it gets too late in the year :)

Meet your sister. I'm a contractor, so I'm self employed, and I haven't had a week off since February. In July, there were 23 working days, I billed almost 28 which means I was with clients or doing work for clients for 28 solid days (i've to provide timesheets), had multiple travel trips as part of that too, and then had daily admin like email to do.

On top of that I'm in the final year of a masters, so researching a thesis, and have been asked to gain four new certifications by the end of September.

I've a lovely good news story though. As I said above I'm very introverted as a person, and as a result, I've very few friends. At the beginning of this year, I made a resolution to work on being less socially constrained, and make an effort to interact more with people.

It's made a difference in how I interact with people, and given me more confidence in myself (now most people who meet me through work think I'm incredibly confident to the point of arrogance!)

Anyway, I buy most of my underwear in one particular store, and got to know the owner of the store over time this year, purely due to her being there on the day I am most likely to visit, and we became pals, and I'd drop in for a chat even if I wasn't buying anything.

OH and I have a tradition that he always treats me to a new set of underwear for my birthday (I love good underwear) so last week we went in as it was my birthday, and I casually mentioned to her it was my birthday and that was why we were in.

Cue massive hug, and a complimentary gift of a set of underwear from the store/her, I was gobsmacked at the generousity (now I am to underwear what other women are to shoes, I've two full drawers of the stuff, as I rarely throw it out)

Then I'm off to a wedding tomorrow, and had said to her Sat, that I wanted a shapewear slip, she set aside the last in my size, and told me to drop in with the dress to check if it worked.

Got there this evening and the store was shut

Oh spotted she was in there on the phone, she spotted us, and waved for us to go around and in the staff entrance.

Got the slip sorted etc, and we got to chatting for ages, and she asked if I would fancy going for a drink some evening as we've gotten pally and get on.

She's a lady I really like, we get on and I can see us becoming fast friends over time.

    I was a bit chuffed :)

^^^ Never mind dating and romance, that's the stuff of dreams right there!

My best friend pointed out to me not too long ago that these days it seems to be easier to get someone to sleep with you than go for coffee (as a new friend).

Do you know, I was more chuffed that if I'd had a good first date.

As a bit more background, I get on fairly well with my OHs two adult children (both in their early twenties) His daughter is very self conscious and was wearing the wrong size bra (was very obvious) so as a treat I took her to this shop one day to get measured and then treated her to a couple of sets of underwear as an advance gift. She was so shocked at the difference good, well fitting underwear made to how she felt, that she told her Dad, and for her birthday we got her a gift card for the shop.

She went in with the gift card while the owner was on holiday and was treated horribly, they had nothing in her size (32G) on sale, refused to check other stores as it's a chain and suggested she try other sizes.

When the owner came back, I dropped in to check out the new collection, and there had been a little confusion with something I'd ordered, and she asked what happened. I made light of it, but mentioned OHs daughters experience.

I was a bit nervous doing so, but she was disgusted at how her staff had behaved, and asked me to mail a complaint which I did and which she acted upon.

So even being a customer who complains, she still wants to go out for a drink and a chat, I think tbh, she knows me well enough to know I'm straight up and kinda respected that I told her what happened.

Jaysis, I forgot the whole point of my post, so wrapped up in the amazingness I am

Anyway I've a thread in ladies lounge private, organising an older members meetup, if you'd be interested in checking it out?

Out for me as well for ny year 11s, happy with some, expected others, and disappointed with two because they put in a huge amount of effort but just couldn't retain the info and make silly mistakes.

Year 10 did an additional cert, delighted with those results overall, as I had two classes of them and did the four prediction papers for them!

One that I expected to fail didn't - she did very very little work so must have done some at home. Shows that if she worked harder throughout the year she would have done really well. Load of teachers in with their young kids, which was nice, some real cute ones!

We've gone down hugely as a school so nearly guaranteed OFSTED will be calling early in the year. Whole department is kinda depressed, weird results with some students who were getting secure B's and C's in mocks ending up with lower grades. Gone down 5% in our subject results from last year, and the headteacher has blanked our head of department a number of times already this morning, which is really petty, given that my HOD has had a really tough time in her personal life recently. This is the part of this job I hate, that we are so results driven and some students just are not good enough to succeed.

Funny sleeping pattern is definitely wrecking my head - wanted to go to the gym this morning, so I set two alarms, one at 5.45 and one 5.35, so I can get the impression that I am turning over. Woke to the first alarm, but must have slept through the second one, next thing I know its 7.30

Ugh tell me about it. I've gained just over a stone in the past year and a bit (I blame the other half for making me happy and wanting to eat allllll the food). Used to be able to lose weight easily but struggling this time. Old age must be setting in :(

I started trying to shift a few pounds, and two weeks later I've caved already. Working in a restaurant is the worst when you're trying to be healthy :o

I've gained back about half a stone since I left on holidays from work, but two people have commented on how I look like I've lost weight!! Must be the clothes that I'm wearing or something!

    Enjoy the wedding Stheno

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,246 ✭✭✭iwantmydinner

I knew I was gaining weight steadily over the past sorta two years (fairly slowly but still gaining) due to just having more money to eat richer food and eat in restaurants more often etc. Wasn't really all that bothered.

Had the ole classic "what kind of blubber monster have I BECOME" moment a wee while ago looking at pictures of me at a recent wedding. Not really on a specific diet, just trying to make lighter choices at every meal. It's working so far so I'm happy enough.

  • Registered Users Posts: 440 ✭✭SillyBeans

I tried weight watchers but felt like they over simplified it so people didn't understand why certain foods make you gain/lose weight (calories) so I 've just gone back to normal calorie counting now. I do miss having the eye of judgement when I go to a meeting though, that would always encourage me to make the healthier choices. I need to start being my own judge though!

How is it not the weekend yet. Longest week ever!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,027 ✭✭✭sunshine and showers

I'm just trying to make better decisions at every meal too and it's working. Ten pounds down since April without a massive effort! :D

I've been using an app called TwoGrand. It's not about calorie counting, just knowing what you're eating. You take a picture of your meals and snacks and post it. Then you can follow other people (especially people at your goal weight) to see what they eat and their exercise, etc. I like it much more than calorie counting/My Fitness Pal, which just depresses me tbh.

Now I just have to work on exercising consistently. :)

I have to getting wee weights and I can't get them til payday and then I dunno do I have enough room in my apartment to do it and....

    No excuses! :P

I can't find my weights so I've been using two massive jars of sauce instead. My weakly arms can just about manage that :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,517 ✭✭✭Sunny Dayz

Speaking of using sauce jars for weights - that's what I was using theother night as I have no equipment apart from runners.. I started Kayla Itsines bikini body guide on Mon night. Of course I didn't stretch out properly afterwards! Legs were a bit sore on Tues, like an eejit I wore heels to work and I had running on Tues evening so by Tues night my legs were in bits. Was meant to do another workout last night for arms & core but I couldn't face into it as my legs were still sore! Legs are better today and will try tonight instead.

What's that exercise programme like? I've seen it mentioned on instagram a lot but some of the results seem a bit too good to be true!

This has turned into the fitness forum :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,331 ✭✭✭Ilyana 2.0

I was under the impression that you've got to pay for the Kayla Itsines programme, is that true?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,517 ✭✭✭Sunny Dayz

I bought the guides in pdf cheap on ebay. I have noticed that my core is very weak, I tried Pat Divilly's planking challenge and failed miserably. I have noticed that my core is so weak that I slouch when I sit, like I haven't the strength in my stomach to hold myself up. So I am kinda hoping to strengthen my body a bit and tone it up. I have seen her pics all over instagram so I said I would give it a go, I'm not expecting results like the pcs but just a bit of toning, take the jingles away before I jingle all the way at xmas!!

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Regional South Moderators Posts: 15,247 Mod ✭✭✭✭rebel girl 15

I've cut out things like bread and pasta, my biggest problem is Coke, addictive which was the trap that I fell into while at holidays. I did three weeks of gym twice or three times a week before work and eating things like chicken salads and generally healthy for the weeks before the summer holidays and I lost nearly a stone.

Back to my other role tomorrow, looking forward to it!

Hate shapewear - I feel so restricted and uncomfortable. I remember wearing one that was probably too tight to a dinner dance and I was so uncomfortable after the meal I thought I was gonna puke.

    ^ THIS.

I hate wearing dresses which require the wearing of shapewear, particularly if I have to go somewhere which involves the consumption of a decent amount of food or booze.

At my wedding, I didn't wear shapewear but the top of my dress was a fitted corsety-type thing - my God, once the meal got started, there was no give in it at all! I thought I'd burst!

The worst thing is when you're wearing shapewear and it's absolutely roasting out and you end up struggling to get everything back on when you go to the toilet. Reminds me of Ross in Friends trying to get those leather trousers back on!
