Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Got sunburnt at the race I did on Sunday. All on my shoulders because must have got burnt on the bike...blistered now :( Never blistered from sunburn before as I'm usually not a total idiot. so freaking uncomfortable.

    I feel you.

I was in the shade all day yesterday but still managed to get sunburnt on my shoulder. Just the left one. As if I didn't have enough tan lines from the bike already I now have a racer back mark and bra strap marks. More stripes than a zebra.

I now have cycle tan and tri suit tan...it might even out at some stage. :)

I did all of my training last year on the bike, with just a small few runs - mostly indoors or at night. So I had perfect tan lines on my legs from my bibs.

Then I put on my tri suit for the event and the legs are a good inch shorter than my bibs. So for the run (& the finish line!!) I looked ridiculous.

I've given up caring about tan lines. Mostly :) I consider them to be healthy and a sign of outdoors exercise.

Although :o I was kinda mortified last week about the state of my legs between tan lines and post-crash bruises. I had an appointment with the gynae and I was so self conscious of the state of my legs :D (took away the anxiety from the actual exam though!!)

I know of a horrific story of a father who knocked his own toddler down because they ran behind the car. I don't think the child survived.

I've been lucky and no sunburn yet - mostly because I spent the entirety of Sat working. Probably spent the sunniest part of Sun indoors too being a tourist in Dublin Castle and the National Gallery. Had the amazing honour of meeting Michael D though! He just happened to walk into the Portrait Gallery while we were there. No ceremony or fuss made. I'm a huge fan so an still coming down from the high!

My body is still in serious pain though. 30,000 steps in work and another 20,000 being a tourist combined with a displaced pelvis means that I can barely move. Even the walk to the bathroom had me in tears.

I usually have two sets of tan lines, one from cycling gear and one from running gear. Was at a wedding in a dress on saturday and I just had to tell everyone to ignore my lines as there was no fixing this :pac:

Note to self: next time, don't get the shimmery gradual tanner. That shimmer is micro glitter. My arms look like a disco ball in certain light.

I'm obsessive about spf and suncream when I'm sailing but tend to rely on my moisturiser outside of that as it had a 30 SPF rating.

I forgot my ears on Sunday, the skin on them burned, hardened and fell off at lunchtime today :(

Eek! Unpleasant! It's always the little bit you forget about or just don't think of that gets you. Hopefully it's not too painful.

Aveeno is actually incredible to deal with it :) It even takes the heat out of the burn.

Noted! Normally if I get sunburn I don't feel it... until I put aftersun on it. Then it hurts like hell!

I'd love to know if there is a sunblock suitable for putting in hair? My scalp always gets burnt!

It certainly exists as I have used it previously. I just can't remember any of the important details, like brand of it, or where I got it :o

    Rant alert.

Before I begin I'm aware that this is a first world problem and it makes me sound like a twat.

My neighbour is dying. He's old and sick (COPD) and is just being made comfortable. Awful sad for the family. They're coming and going all hours of the day/night (understandable!).

It's also ridiculously hot in Dublin currently. So I'm sleeping with the windows open in the hopes of pretending it's not a sauna.

Anywho, the noise of them is crazy. I know they have more to be concerned about than how well the neighbourhood is sleeping, but that habit that one of the family in particular has of tooting the horn to say goodbye? Not necessary at a quarter to twelve :( third time this week that he's beeped when I've been asleep/nearly asleep :(

And I feel like a right knob for complaining. But I'm tired. I'm hot. And I'm grumpy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,263 ✭✭✭robyntmorton

I can appreciate it's a difficult time for them, and that other things are on their minds, but there is really no excuse for the lack of basic consideration. Beeping a car horn in the middle of the night is part of that. There's really no need for that, and I can understand you being annoyed about it.

I have the window open here, but with the runway they are using in Dublin, I have planes passing a couple of thousand feet above my bedroom every few minutes. And trains passing by the house. Hopefully it will go quiet soon. Hopefully.

Is it after 11pm? Isn't that against the rules? Say it to them, its common courtesy to be quiet at night in residential areas!

Yeah, someone bipped at 4 this morning. Just a little "bip" but still.

Just feels the wrong time to say something. "I know your dad is dying and all but can you not be a dick?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,176 ✭✭✭✭sammyjo90

well I wouldn't exactly say it like that :P

I appreciate and understand this a trying time etc etc but could you ask your relative to stop beeping their horn at 4am please?

Did my first open water swim on Saturday with pretty much no training as I had forgotten I had entered it, and haven't been swimming anyway due to time constrictions. Couldn't get into my rhythm at the start, but managed to finish it. Played a football game yesterday and now at work where my body is saying what sort of an idiot are you!!

Presenting a teaching and learning session later on - better start the auld powerpoint now!

I finish up in work on Friday. Someone asked me yesterday how long I have been associated with the current place and it got me thinking. I started my PhD in 2008. Nine years.

I was looking forward to leaving but since starting to clear my desk it's all a little bit real!

Looking forward to the next chapter though :)

When the mysterious oracle with calorie free pizza, cake, and beer arrives, don't let them escape. We must harness that miraculous power.

We all have horrible days. Hope you're feeling better soon *hugs*

Found out I passed all my exams earlier and was set to go out and have a drink with friends to celebrate. Cut to me at my desk a few hours later having a panic attack for no particular reason. Possibly brought on by the idea of socialising.

Why can't I just be normal?

Pfft. What even is normal these days.

(Congrats on the exams, and I hope that your anxiety has decreased!)

Nothing abnormal about getting anxious about socialising. All the best people in life are introverts :D

I'm an ENFP, but I'm only really extrovert around people I know. Getting to know people is the hard part.

    And normal is overrated.

What do those initials stand for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,263 ✭✭✭robyntmorton

    Extrovert v Introvert (General Attitude)
    obServant v iNtuition (Perception)
    Thinking v Feeling (Information Processing)
Judging v Prospecting (Implementing that information)

It's all traced back to Carl Gustav Jung, and later to Katherine Cook Briggs (Co-Author of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator)

Carl Jung is a fascinating read, if you have even a passing interest in psychology.

    I'm INFJ-t, apparently.
I'm very talkative but actually get very anxious in social situations, and have to push myself to try new things. (I love teaching but I get very nervous before meeting a new class or going back after holidays, because I have to break the ice again in front a big group of people!)

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

I'm ISTJ - I did two different tests a few weeks apart. After doing the second I looked up what I got in the first and was rather surprised they both came out with the same result. Figured I had to accept it based on my case study of two. :)

I'm an odd one. I'm quite quiet in general...but once I get talking it's hard to shut me up. I'm good with new people too and in social situations but it is hard to get me out to a night out / party etc as I like my own company more :P

I am ENFJ. I did that Myers Briggs test years ago through work. I fully expected to be an I.
One of my best friends is also ENFJ, and we often have the exact same opinion of certain things, or people :D

    Frustrating morning with the GP.

    Kidney function is acting up.
Letter to GP in April advising psychiatric referral needed wasn't acted upon. (I'm not crazy, honest! It's a procedural thing)
Referral to radiology for x-ray of my dodgy knee to be done (to see if it's medical or strength/conditioning related)

    As always so much fun!

About nine months/a year ago, I trialled a few products from Elizabeth Arden in my local boots.

I was looking for a decent foundation and finally found it.

I then tried out their skincare, which while not cheap, has done wonders for my skin.

Six months after I bought a pile of stuff, I've run out, so I went in today to see if they had any offers on (I'm scabby and hate paying full price for stuff)

I got told "next weeks offer will apply (three for two)!" then I asked if I could have a facial (they offer them free to regular customers) so now tomorrow, I'm off for a lovely facial :)

Really looking forward to it :) They do a skin analysis every time you have a facial so I'm interested to see if it shows my skin has improved, imo it has, but that's just me.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

I changed my skincare* from the expensive stuff which I used for maybe a year (and did help my skin but not completely) which cost me maybe 60 a month / every 6 weeks to moogoo which aets me back 60 a year, if even. And had been great for my skin!

Still but the foundation and recently bought face mask from expensive place though

    *Facewash and moisturizer

Text message from the hospital this morning. Reminder: Your appointment is next week.

They can be surprisingly efficient when they want to be!
