As in the title guys. I want to build this!

    https://youtu.be/RcsKNryPAzw

Its a Raspberry Pi arcade! An arcade control panel with the Pi inside. Just plug and play. It looks handy enough as first time project. Any tips? My main question is where are the cheapest sites or shop to buy the stuff required below please.

    IPAC controller
    Raspberry Pi
    8GB Micro SD card
    Female wire connectors
    Hook up wire
    Arcade Buttons
    Joystick
    Wire Stripper
    Wifi USB Adapter
    Power adapter (for Raspberry Pi)

Help is very much appreciated, it'll be my first build.

Here is one of many places to get joysticks, buttons, and ready made harness daisy chains.

I got my raspberry pi from :

Lots of places to save money with shipping etc.

For about 7 euro you can buy a SanDisk Ultra microSDHC UHS-I Class 10 Memory Card as recommended by the Pi forums online.*

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDSDQUAN-008G-G4A-Android-microSDHC-Adapter/dp/B00M55C0VU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1431033876&sr=8-1&keywords=SanDisk+SDSDQUAN-008G-G4A

(* Take it you are using a Rpi2?)

2amp power supply for about 6 pounds/8 euro on amazon too.

Hi, I build mame jamma cabinets for people and supply bits and pieces as well.

As for encoders I sold a Xin mo usb controler and wiring kit to a guy building a Pi based arcade system . They are Pi compatible according to their website.

Didnt hear anything back from him so I am assuming all is well, it was over 2 months ago.

Did you want me to contact him and see how it worked out?

Yes. Would I need one for this project though? Is the wiring difficult to do?

I just got RetroPie up and running this evening. Need to change my romset though, loads not working.

    [edit]
Yeah, seems my roms are for newer versions, and advmame runs on the .133 version of mame.

Ronan you would need some kind of controller board to connect your buttons/joystick to the Pi itself, either that or you'd need to connect the wires to the GPIO connections on the Pi, and program it to use those. Easier with a controller board.

The controller board is essentially just a usb device. It acts as the brains of 2 joysticks with 10 buttons for player one and 12 for player 2, you dont need to use all of them either. The wires come with all the connections fitted, so theres no soldering or crimping required. It takes a bit of time just to connect everything up but its not difficult.

It comes with a diagram showing whats what. You can actually have the controller board connected to a pc and have your game controller settings open.

(the one that shows you joystick movement and button presses)

So you can check it as you go along.

drop me a pm and I can send some pics on if you like

    Damien
