Zetor 8111, fix or replace.

We have a Zetor 8111 2wd at home. An engine repair was carried out 2 years ago at a cost of approx. €2k I think. On the road yesterday it developed a nasty sound suddenly and afterwards had very little power.

Waiting for the repair man to call to diagnose. Is it worth fixing again if it's a similar issue or do we go buying. Budget would be tight but I hate the idea of pouring more money. We do the usual small farm tasks, feeding silage bales would be the most severe.

    Any opinions appreciated.

If it's a similar issue and all it does is light work I'd be looking for a new mechanic.

That is where I'm at at the minute too. I'll wait for his diagnosis before passing judgement yet. What represents the best value at the minute for small money? Using maybe 120 - 150 bales a year, fertiliser, cattle trailer, no heavy work.

There is an underlying reason why it went again with so little work.......dig deep into this .Find out definitively first before making a decicison Pointless repeating same.

The big question what of the €2k was parts put into the tractor.

Depends on what it is, if nothing too serious i would fix it up. We have a 8011 at home and we are at this stage! Engine is fairly worn at this stage, but its to be expected as it spent years cutting silage, drawing slurry, feeding cows, we got it when it was two years and old the clock stopped back in the mid 80's with 4.5k hours on so you could only imagine what hours are on it now. I think it 1977 so it doesn't owe us a thing.

At least if you did put a few bob into it you'd know what you'd have afterwards.

Seemingly a broken valve was the issue. Does this need an underlying cause or is it something that happens.
